i bought the wrong hipshot ten years ago so my blue jazz's E string has gone the other way to the other strings for all that time .. 2nd nature now!

Hey all here's the deal. I'm working on a relic p bass project and need a pickup, but i have a rather demanding list of needs!..it has to be aged in appearence, it can't be too hot I don't wanna overdrive my wireless. It's gotta be passive, it's gotta have excellent noise rejection esp the kinda noise that dimmers give off.. My house is terrible for this!! I want a big, sledgehammer p bass sound kinda like the green day 'american idiot' type sound, but that I can roll back for a more funk/disco vibe. Oh and it's gotta be pretty cheap! I was looking at the wizard trad but searching on here didn't bring up much about it, most people seem to go for the thumper which sounds like it might be too retro and wooley sounding to me? I've read similar things about the expensive antiquity 2. I don't want a Motown thud, more a grind! What do people think of the trad? I've emailed wizard but Andy isn't sure he can help. I'm Hoping they can do me an aged underwound one but I'm new to p basses and don't know what's good. Apparently the mike dirnt bass has fender custom shop 59 pickups which I can't find and I'm sure wouldn't be able to afford lol! But the trad is only £50 which is a nice price lol! The current pickup is ok, but slightly too hollow for me, also I notice that when I play the p bass the red light ony Samson bass wireless lights up, but there is no audible distortion. Adjusting the level didn't really help, and it's fine with my other basses, should I care less about the light if all sounds fine? Andy figures that if the orignal is too hot then his really will be . Thoughts??

He was my bass tutor at Barnsley college but was always on tour so sadly I never got any one to one tuition. Buthe did blow us all away with a solo show one day.

I used to have a defretted japcrap black ripper copy, wish I'd kept it now I know more about setting up basses. This is waaaay overpriced!!

Incidentally I need a couple of the scews that go in the back of the machine heads, the big ones that hold them together, or failing that a couple of large based elepant ears, anyone got any I just sold all my flippin spares ..d'oh!

cheers dude id love that! Where is bassassin?, its not normally this long a japcrap thread stays this quiet! It def seems to be of a much higher quality than most. the brass plate under the pickups is very nicely wired up and the finish is much thinner than the modern thick ones.

I just picked this up from ebay I was expecting it to be something like an encore etc, but its clearly older. Its very worn and the neck is massive it came in a nice old hard case too, and despite the massive hum i get in my house it sounds fine. I cant get the action super, super low as i like, but certainly low enough! if i go too low it makes the very top of the neck choke out. Anyone got any ideas what it is?, its very aged although i have cleaned it up rather. I cant seem to shield it as well i can my jazzes, ive covered the cavities in self adhesive shielding stuff from basspartsresource as i do on my jazzes but it still picks up all the dimmer switch noise in my house (goes away to some extent when i touch the strings) Should i get one one of those 'eliminator plates' for P bass they have on basspartsresource? Anyone tried one?, do they go under the pickguard? I want to fit an anodised gold pickguard but I cant seem to find one, anyone either got one going or know where i can get one at a decent price? The previous owner has stripped the headstock and i cant make out what it said before, the pics are off my phone so not great, my first thought was sumbro but im no expert! It seems very solid and well built the neck pocket has a B in it, and the pups say S and N on the bottom. But it's supposed to have a graphite neck, 24 frets, six strings and a fully active pre-amp with emg's isn't it?!!?! I'm going through all these strange changes, I'm not sure I understand anything anymore! And I've started to think about girls! (especially Carol Smillie?) :-)

First I actually ASKED for slippers for Christmas and now I have started to think about a nice sunburst precision?!!!?? Noooooooo! I've even decided that the two bands I'm in (check my sig! Esp useless wooden toys!) will be my last originals bands!! I always wondered when I got 'bass old' and I consider this to be it! I'm even happier having LESS basses than I did!! If anyone has a sunburst fender or squier p going über cheap or fancies a partial swap for my cheap sixer, now might be the time to pm me before I have further crisiis (how exactly do you spell cry-seas??) and decide I need a flying v in metallic blue or something! On another note try to be hold of the album kon and amir off track vol 1 - the Bronx, Serious funk bass heaven!
