Im after something which i can easily live drop layers on layers, so a percussive beat then a bass part, pseudo guitar part and then noodle. But all in a pedal not rack, am i asking too much ive looked around on here and tb but am still at a loss!
-
Im also looking at loopers, does the headrush allow you to build up a few layers and then solo over them? Or would I be better off with the boss rc2?

Ok, so since moving to Cheltenham i spend a lot of time in open mic nights waiting and hoping for a chance to play something i know, which is fairly rare having never spent much time doing covers, and quite often the guys who know the same songs as me are unavailable, etc. But i like to keep my hand in playing and performing so i was thinking about branching out and doing some solo bass stuff as i have some bits and bobs, but need to write some more and expand a touch. Do any of you esteemed lot have any suggestions?, should i be looking at a looper pedal or would a delay suffice, what about a GT6b? Id keep it short so as not to get boo'ed off but im getting bored of trekking to the pub with my bass to either get ignored/bumped (as per last night, when i said id do a solo slot only to keep getting bumped cause Jim/Dave/Phil wants to play, and presumably i rate lower as a bass player than a guy with a guitar) or to play the same songs as last week cause thats all we know in common. So what should i be looking at, and listening to im thinking Jaco and our very own Monsignor Lawson?

On the subject of iffy venues, the best known one in Leicester, (which i have played well over a hundred time, possibly over 200 in various bands, filled over capacity etc etc) When i was in Doublecross who sold quite a few thousand albums, featured in rock mags across Europe, also full page ads in classic rock mag etc played with bands like Styx and Dokken at places like the Hammersmith Odeon, Glasgow SECC etc. I called the venue to do what was to be a small local gig by our standards, but just said the name of the band instead of saying, 'oh hi its Gaf from...(various local acts)' which would have been fine as i was known by name. After explaining about the fact that we were currently selling by the truckload and playing some big venues with some big names i was told: "Yeah well i aint heard of you, and if you're not big in Leicester then you're no-one!" This attitude may explain why said venue used to be a mainstay on the tour circuit and now goes largely ignored, this along with Leicesters famously apathetic 'hipper than thou' crowds and scene (Which i actually read an article all about in one of the music papers some years back so its not just me!)

LMII vs GK700RB-II vs Warwick Profet 5.1
gafbass02 replied to chris_pokkuri's topic in Amps and Cabs
I found the warwick profets pretty underpowered, especially compared to the lm2 which is just very loud! -
Hi and welcome aboard! About 18 months ago i went from this... to this... and couldnt be happier, and its actually louder too!, most gigs i can get by comfortably on just the 102p which is sooo light, and very, very loud! It even copes just fine with stupid loud (must have a word) rehearsals with a metal band in a small room where my Trace actually didnt do so well. The piezo in my 102p never worked from new and i couldnt be arsed to chase it up but ive never wanted for it, the 151hr sounds great with a small amount dialled in, but on the whole its just amazing gear. The sound is very flat and neutral to my ears, and i find i hardly ever use EQ, which took some getting used to but now im happy as Larry. Not heard the front ported cabs though, but i would expect them to feel louder and shift more air, although as i say, ive never felt i lacked any even with just the 102p

yup, definitely the most set up dependant bass ive owned
-
Ive always wanted to be in one so much it makes me want to pop!, i never got round to sending in a 'my bass is' either!, i was in a few rock mags with Doublecross when our album came out, and we were doing ok,but mainly German ones, and of course not bass mags.

what do people do with so many basses?
gafbass02 replied to greyparrot's topic in General Discussion
Im a sucker for the looks too, I have my blue jazz cause its my old friend that is also going in the jar with me when im pickled to await my glorious return from the afterlife. My recently bought '75ri was simply cause i had wanted a white jazz since Gibson Keddies white 70's one in bassist like ten years ago, and its turned out to be the best bass ive ever had i reckon! My bassmaster funk was an impulse buy as a teenager cause it looked like a streamer ( my 2nd fave shape after the jazz) and its too battered and sentimental to me to part with. My 'ray is my 'sensible 'go-to' bass that sits well in any mix on any stage, and as the 'ray sound is what got me started i still consider myself lucky to own one as i never thought i would, even though im not big on the colour, the piezo, and am a bit out of love with it at the mo! My streamer is simply an indulgence, as i love the shape, although is the best for all the train travelling i do (cant drive either!) as its like a feather and has all the frets too, so i can do funky wah-wah guitar funk and jazzy chordal stuff at the top of the neck. The acoustic is 'just likely to come in handy' and the squier is just cause it looks great, and my wife said i should buy it so it was rude not to!....mmm....shallow! -
The first thing in noticed was the quality of the photograph on the cover, it seemed really sharp, was well impressed!, nice to see Homer and Luke in there too.

Bass.... wireless reciever... Bass wah...(here for easy access) zoom 506 in a seperate loop switched by a boss ls2... Boss ce2 chorus...Here for easy access... hartke vxl...di/overdrive after wah and chorus for funkyness and so they go through the di... boss ds1...rarely used unless annoyed... boss compressor...here so it tames peaks from wah and flanger etc and volume jump from overdrive and because i find compression essential for my style... boss ns2 noisegate to reduce hiss etc from other pedals, and also last because it has two outputs should i need em

Thanks dude, its all good, i reckon that was a top buy! hehheh -
i totally disagree, i don't see how compression is the best starting point for someone wanting to experiment with effects
True, not the best for starting to fiddle about with sounds (my first was a phaser weeeeeoooo etc etc, great fun!) didnt really think of it like that, for me imho etc etc compression is the one indispensible pedal. I was thinking more in gigging terms. Always makes me chuckle when guitarists make a big deal about me having 'so many pedals', and so many are just stuff like compression, tuner, noisegate etc, no superwobblifiers etc
