I really do need to own less guitars/basses, it's getting silly! This is the 2002 stingray that I turned into a 'Geddy Ray' I had the hardware professionally plated gold (expensive!) and resprayed the headstock black with a gold logo. The lightly sanded neck is smooth as silk and it plays fantastically well; and sounds, like a two band stingray ! Out of the many stingrays I've owned, this is the most versatile sounding in a way I can't put my finger on. It's also the most forgiving to play and the neck doesn't feel so massive as some. The bass is far from mint, there are signs of use all over, especially on the back, which has scratches. There is a chunk of finish that popped off and had to be reattached by the neck join. (I've had that on Ray's a few times?!!) Basically, despite the fact that it looks a bit 'bling' it's very much a workhorse gig weapon, a very much players bass. Set up well with fresh strings, polished frets and nourished neck. Supplied with musicman hard case. The neck inlay blocks are removable! I'm not after trades, but could be tempted with certain basses! (not black and four strings only!) My tastes are limited however. I mainly like jazz's, 'coffee table' stuff, status, Warwicks. I'm in Cheltenham and would much prefer collection, as shipping could be expensive and risky and awkward to arrange. I'm afraid I would charge full shipping costs. £700 Ono. Thomann selling Harley Benton basses as 'Decoration only'
gafbass02 replied to Annoying Twit's topic in Bass Guitars
Likewise. I've urgent need of a cheap tbird for my current band, clicked but got the no go email this morning :-/ -
I'm another that's had several Warwicks with issues, out of phase pickups, blown preamps and ruined truss rods on four figure basses
-
I tried a few of the walnut ones in shops and was very disappointed. Then I bought unseen a brand new 'mint green' one, and it's utterly fantastic. One if the finest instruments I've played at any price point. (I've owned over a hundred basses alone, many 'boutique' including several stingrays) The hardware has the cheap 'n shiny thing going on, but works fine, the neck is FAR more stable than the EBMM necks I've owned. comparing the sound to a ray is interesting. Alone it sounds like a stingray. But when directly compared with my current 2band stingray the Sub has far less treble and a much more present mid range. Making it in many ways a more practical sound! Just lacking in some top end bite from the onboard eq.
-
Anyone else watching this nervously incase their band appears? Heheh I'm pretty sure a tour I was on has been mentioned once somewhere!
-
I had the igig, which is awesome, but very heavy, I ditched it for two separate igigs
-
That's kinda cool. The JPS logo would look good too, I came pretty close to making it a full on trans am themed bass, but decided to go for more understated.
-
I might try a gold, I did think about the polepieces, but didn't want to risk damage.
-
Thanks all. Good eyes on the G, it was just not sitting in the saddle groove correctly. I noticed afterwards
-
Cheers folks. :-) I really fancy a set of gold strings on there. I tried maxima years back but hated them. I bet there's a better option now
-
I did, from Rothko and frost, the plating company I forget but they were awful! Expensive and took ages :-/

So this is what happened. I swapped a jazz for a stingray. I wanted one like my old natural '92 'The one that got away' But I was impatient, and settled for a slightly tatty, kinda boring mid 00's one in black. I hate black guitars. Except with gold hardware. You see, growing up, the JPS lotus F1 car was the coolest thing ever. Except for the Bandit's Trans Am! So last time I ended up with a black bass, I knew exactly what I wanted to do, it was this Geddy: So I hit the body with with some T-Cut, gorgomyted the frets etc, sanded the neck, sent the hardware off to be plated, fitted a tort guard, set up the hell out of it, and then hit the spray can on the headstock. I've never sprayed anything before ever. At all. Ever. So this was a learning process! One my wife made me finish early due to the stinky house! One set of stick on blocks later and I ended up with this : I'll just add here. *Very politely* That if you are one of those, um, 'odd' (imho)types, that frequent the eb** forum, and turn (passive)/aggressively on anyone that messes with B*g P*ppa's baby. I respect your right to be that way. BUT its my bass, and I hate that purist stuff, so please just don't. This time, Just bite your tongue, suck in through your teeth and calmly click on past without clicking on the keyboard. Thanks Anyway, hope you like it, my first stingray project, and I'm kinda pleased with it. Blocks may stay or go. I'll decide in time. I'm mulling a gold competition stripe too, but probably won't this time!

I recently traded a jazz for a stingray, but it was a bit dull, so I blinged it up a bit with a colour matched headstock and gold hardware. Since the pics I've used wonder wipes on the neck to darken/yellow it a bit. it's fab now. My first go at spraying. It came out ok, I'd rather have more clear coats to bury the decal more, but I got fed up of the smell in the house! My current project, Dingwall ABZ 5 Transformation
Seeing the body on its own I though... urgh! But once it was all back together it's more
Hahahah. This! looks great. -
The MP3 is on random. These people are not necessarily "bass player" bands but these songs made me sit up and think "wow". Just from a tone point of view. Pararmore - Brick by Boring Brick The Vaccines - Aftershave ocean The Wombats - Backfire at the Disco Placebo - Hang on to your IQ Plain White Tees - Hold On My Chemical Romance - Welcome to the Black Parade - the fast bit I might have to go home and fiddle with my knobs tonight!
Nice song choices. tonal inspiration can really get the juices going.

Hahah, no, infact pretty far from it, primary school teacher! -
The Foo Fighters - are they THAT good?
gafbass02 replied to spectoremg's topic in General Discussion
I really want to like them. Nirvana got me interested in music in the first place, so I love Dave Grohl. The rest all seem like good people! I just find the music pretty middle of the road. Can't get into it. Apart from "Everlong". That's a great song
This. Only I'm not sure which is everlong cause they all sound kinda the same to me. -

My six string progressive came too. Despite being apparently flawless with a very pretty figured neck, When I got it it was dead and just made pops and bangs. Then I put a battery in it! Now its fine -
We are a well established act based in Cheltenham. We operate two different acts with the same personnel, one a covers act that does rock versions of pop classics and a different 'tribute' band, which is a placebo tribute band. We are looking for a new bass player to cover, ideally, both. Although if one is preferred over the other we could work around that. We are only interested in someone who is able to commit to learning a large set and turning up to weekly rehearsals already prepared. We rehearse in our own space, which costs nothing. Transport is very much preferred, as is having a rig decent enough to gig with. Would suit a 'rock based' player more than funk/jazz/metal/60's etc. Ideal age range is mid 20's to early 40's. We only take paid gigs and play regularly, with the intention to push the tribute act hard in 2016 Apologies for the obtuse advert, please contact for more details, but please bear in mind we are looking for an experienced, capable bass player who is prepared and ready to lean and help us maintain our busy gigging schedule and grow the act forwards. Someone who was around in the 90's would fit especially well Wink
