1. At risk of getting a kicking I read it as scene setting, I expect the frankness with it was delivered may (and I hesitate here) just may have triggered the deepest, darkest twinges of jealousy in some at the op's achievements, even if only slightly and very deep down. And yeah, we've all met that guy. As an aside, There seems to be a real snappiness on here lately, the camaraderie of old is fading a little, maybe as the site grows and matures, either way as an old hand who feels less and less inclined to join in it makes me feel uncomfortable, seeking out or pursuing confrontation was never our bag guys. It just wasn't. Now it's commonplace. :-( My problem I know, just thought I'd drop it in there. I even read a sly dig at my own ability in a recent thread i posted in, (one with subject matter i normally avoid because of the types of folks it attracts, i was silly to post!) I typed and then deleted about three measured responses before deciding to just ignore. Anyhow. Happy christmas
2.
Ok, we've had bass threads, amp threads, rig threads, effects threads, collection threads, etc How about your gig ready, life in a box (or bag) thread. Your hard case/gigbag and it's contents as if its ready to go. I.E my hard case and life in a box: Bass, strap, tools, head, ear plugs, sponge (for dampening), tuner, leads (various), scales book (just in case), beers (just in case), spare strings (under head) and I believe that's everything.
Wow! Last time I loaded a hard case like that, the handle fell off :-) fair play dude. (Gimme till Saturday and ill try to remember to snap a 'ready to go' pic
3. I've owned about five stingrays and I've had to fiddle with the necks on then all, bloomin' constantly, never got them as low and rattle free as my jazzes either. Love them though, despite finding them somewhat 'unsubtle' on occasion (tonally).
4. Another +1 for the zoom b9.1 here. I've used mine for about five years now. Amazing gear.
5. Nice one ive my first gig with a new band this coming Saturday. Glad it went well
6. Bloomin' marvellous. (Which is handy, cause as everything else it sucks at the mo!) But as a bassist. Great! Just joined a funky covers band, had my first rehearsal last night where we tried some new material, we got 'soul with a capital S' (tower of power) and 'love rears its ugly head' (living colour) down really well, and Soul with a capital S is just such a fun line to play. Happy.
7.
I don't like sunburst and I don't like pointy guitars. But bizarrely I like this!
Same!!
8. If that was me, and I found this thread, I'd be mortified and really, really upset. I showboat and over play too live sometimes too, audiences sometimes like it or even encourage it!....and I've just joined a funk band, so opportunities to over do it will be rife. I shall be mindful! Just Hope I don't end up like that poor fella being roasted on here! Just sayin' like. I know, I know, 'He shouldn't have put it on YouTube if he didnt want critique' etc etc But just sayin'. ;-)
9. Yeah he went on, did well, had an oddly little amount of screen time considering their popularity, apparently that was so it seemed less 'off' went they went or some such. Theywere already a VERY busy act with some amazing gigs, now they can add 'as seen onX factor' to their credentials and presumably made some contacts and can charge more now.
10. Friend of mine was invited onto this years show. He knew exactly how far he was getting.
11. I've been a bass player only totally by choice for twenty years. It's all I ever wanted to do, never had any real interest in anything else. By cruel fate 18 months ago a few friends and I decided to start a fun band. Odd hands were dealt and I volunteered to try learning the guitar, hence I'm now the guitarist and singer in a band for the first time ever. Its brilliant fun but i spend my whole time wishing I was on bass instead of relegated to guitar and vocals
