1. Cool idea for a thread. Gotta be my blue jazz, it's just been my best friend for so long now, and it's the one that will always be with me, and luckily it's a great bass too.
2. I've owned both and I gotta say, although I quite liked the sound on the genz I agree with every word said. As soon as I can afford it I'm gonna try a promethean again (third time lucky?!) I really liked the sound of the head and the graphic. Very 'mini trace'. Which is very much my bag. Hmm maybe if I sold my shuttle 9.0 I could afford a used little mark/f1 and a promethean. Hmmm....
3. Anyone else remember Boo Yaa tribe? Funky as hell but also quite hilarious. The lyrics were all 'Im gonna shoot yo b*tch in the face mother******" and the inlays were all " thanks to my lord God our saviour" Wtf?!! Damn cool though! I had my entire cd collection nicked some years back and never replaced em sadly.
4.
go to stringsdirect and try their Legacy strings, used to be about £7 a set, and they were every bit as good as rotosounds. Make of that what you will
Really amazing strings for the money, my go-to brand when I can't afford elixirs.
5. Damn looks just like my old one, fab basses.
6.
I wonder if there's a Sue Ryder shop in Hemnesberget? He might get lucky!
Awesome!!!! :-D funniest ever!
7. Hang onto it mate, I really think you'll regret it.
8. Davemuadib on here uses one to great effect.
9. Tasty mate, very tasty, welcome to the gang
10. Sounds like where the mutes would go, here's my '92 bridge if that helps
11. Just wanted to say they are a DAMN good looking cab bump:)
12. I agree, newer ones can be so bland comparitively.
13. I had a ray 34 classic active In mint green. A lush looking and sounding bass, REALLY good sounding, possibly beat sounding ray I've ever had. BUT the neck was wavy garbage Terrible fretwork meant crazy buzzing and a poorly cut nut left the action always too high. As soon as the slightest back pressure was applied to the neck, (like, while playing!) it would move visibly and cause the first few frets to be unusable unless you really cranked the action. gutted, NOT what you'd expect for the money, and clearly this 'set up and inspected in the U.S. business is just garbage.
14. ive had stuff from here before: http://www.grguitars.com/parts_5bass.htm
15. I am based in Cheltenham and am a good standard of bass player with lightweight and top quality equipment and a driving license and access to a vehicle. In addition to this I am very experienced, have a good image and a good sense of humor and am easy to be around. I’m in my early 30’s although younger looking, and I primarily play fretted four string basses, although I have also spent periods playing six string and fretless basses. M y primary influences on bass read like a ‘who’s who’ of famous bass players depending largely on the given style I am playing. My musical influences are just as varied although I tend to favor funk and disco and certain types of (90’s onwards) rock and pop. I will consider most types of bands and artists as long as the standard is high, including covers or originals. However please don’t contact me for: rock n roll, 60’s, country (or western!), blues or shouty metal! I have played a very wide range of styles from euro pop to melodic heavy metal. I have extensive live and studio experience and have been lucky enough to share the bill with many great bands including ‘STYX’, ‘DOKKEN’, ‘SIKTH’, ‘THE MAGIC NUMBERS’, ‘ATHLETE’, members of ‘THE WILDHEARTS’ and many more. Over the years I have played at a huge range of events, from tiny pub corners to massive televised festivals and legendary venues such as Glasgow’s SECC, the Birmingham symphony hall and Hammersmith Apollo, as well as appearing at the NEC as part of the 'Gadget show Live' I have also been featured in the press, television and radio both in the UK and in the foreign market. I have also done a variety of (NON READING) session work, for which I am always happy to be considered. In this capacity I have worked many different bands, artists and producers including work for Sony music and Chris Sutton (Lucie Silvas. Starship, Smokey Robinson) I am primarily a groove based finger style bass player although I do use plectrums when the song demands it. However I am also accomplished at slap and pop techniques and use of harmonics and chordal styles. I am a hard worker and at my happiest onstage, I don’t tend to get involved in band politics I just like to play, and play well. As a player I am tasteful and adaptable, with a good sense of rhythm and space. Email me at [email protected] music at www.myspace.com/gafbass/music
16. How about a '92 stingray 'scuse the iPhone pics, they don't quite capture the depth and lushness of the neck The action goes very low and the neck is much shallower than most rays I've played, and seems to be gloss finished.
17.
You had issues with the second lot of Promethean kit too? Man that's a real shame, mine has been completely stable (touch wood), seriously considering getting the extension cab for it too. How would you compare the sound of the Midget to the Promethean by the way?... Eude
Yeah second lot too:-( and an ext cab I later bought separately To me the promethean sound more scooped and hi -fi and refined than the midget which was very snarly, bitey, woody mid bark type sounding, if that makes any sense?!:0)
Thats one of the nicest jazz basses ive ever seen Gaf...sooooo pretty...
Why thank you sir :0). It sounds and plays bloooooomin luvley!! Really, really luvley!
19. Oh yeah!! The midget is very loud indeed. I was gutted that every single piece of promethean kit I had (two combos and two ext cabs) had issues, but I still plan on trying the 1x10 cab 'just one more time' in the future. The midget is an amazing tool, just not my sound, but typically since selling I've had need for one a good few times!! Sods law eh!
20. Don't forget to check out the babicz bridge too, looks tasty.
21. Dont have the midget anymore, but this was a stunning little set up:
22. What can I say.. Legend, Legend, Legend, Legend. A seriously top bloke and all round gent. Highly recommended and all round top basschatter. :0)
23. This sticks in my mind This was nice!
