Ongoing saga of in ear monitors!!
Monckyman replied to Gunsfreddy2003's topic in Accessories and Misc
Only thing I can think of is you aren`t getting a good seal with the ACs and for decent bass response that`s essential. Or, they aren`t seated right in the mould Try slightly warming the moulds to make them a little more pliable and once you have the ACS inserted, gently squeeze all around the seal area. MM -
Like it or not a band is essentially the singer/front person and some backing musicians. The PA is there to make the singer (and any other instruments that need it) heard. This in turn makes the whole band sound good. Therefore it is in the interests of all of band to have a good PA whether or not your particular instrument benefits directly from it. Otherwise you are a bunch of boring musicians playing boring instrumental and no-one wants to see that.
JUST THIS I really don`t get the "I play bass and I have an amp so you lot can buy your own f***ing P.A" sh*t. The P.A is for ALL of you. What next? " Well I only sing backing vocals on a 1/3 of the set so I only have to pay £2 a gigh towards the P.A" f*** me, are you a business or not? What exactly is the point of turning up with your barefaced f***off cab and your 1200watt TC head when the punters can`t even hear the vocals? Short sighted selfishness. Rant over

Oh man - why didn't they do this last month?
Monckyman replied to Twigman's topic in General Discussion
Fairly sure I drove over a French suspension bridge that had one of these at either end. Sounded just like a stock bridge would. -
I just did 4 metal bands at a gig in Manchester, asked headline Drummer "so it`s your shells everyones using?" "Correct" says he (although he had 3 racks and 2 floors and one of the floors had a split skin.."I`ll change it after soundcheck" sez he.. wtf? Boom,boom,booom.flrrrp...boom. Um... Ask the Bassist "so everyone`s using your rig?" "Yep no prob" sez he, but then removed his head to a place of greater safety once they soundchecked...(warwick btw) "Oh.. you meant just your two cabs that you cant be arsed moving off stage? Right.." I just used the post apocalyptic house Peavey that can`t die. Just say no.

I bet they go wrong...

Well, thank f*** we have those SAM sites then! Phew!! Fiiiire!

I`ve seen to many knobheads beg the use of an amp and then proceed to thrash it because they`re clueless to be happy letting someone do that to any of my stuff. I get that stuff breaks, and transport can be a problem, but I use my kit to earn, and putting that at risk would need explaining to those who rely on my income.

Hi, I recently had two 1501 subs, one of which had a blown amp and the other went the same way after one gig. I didn`t buy them, they were inherited from a previous band member. The boxes sound great, the amps are totally unreliable due to a design flaw whereupon the power capacitors get loosened with the obvious vibrations and break a leg, which causes an amount of misery to the rest of the board. I ran mine for a bit with an external amp and crossover, but finally got rid. I now just run some cheap Hisys Peaveys (sans badge) with an external rack amp under my Mackie tops. I think most folk tend to overdo it on subs, and feel that lots of it is needed, but I think a little goes a long way for that bit of thud in the mix.

I thought MIAs were whittled by moonshine crazed Oshkosh wearing sockless mutants with Confedaracy tattoos? I mean, that`s what we`re paying for right? Right??

What guitar amp for people who do not know how to work things
Monckyman replied to Owen's topic in Guitar Amplifiers
You have my deepest sympathies. Give them accousitcs. -
All the demos I can find have the GI sim voiced for guitar but the sim is switchable so it`s still a good cheap D.I if you want to use it elsewhere.
-
I`d be careful of a hatchet in the back if I was you. Them`s not folk you want to mess about with.

Seriously guys. This is niche.

Entwistle - Won't Get Fooled Again - Isolated Bass
Monckyman replied to discreet's topic in General Discussion
I don`t care for the who much, but this threads title combined with the one above it is pretty amusing. -
Does the amp "see" the DI in regard to Ohms load? If not it might be a useful way of removing two guitar mics+stands from my chan list. Plus less stage spill into same mics from noisy drummer/bassist. Edit to say although I have the usual ingrained aversion to Behringer products from a professional point of view, I now find the build quality and sonic improvements in most of their products over the last 5 years makes them completely useable in a live situation.

Hi. Sounds like an ohmage problem to me, possibly caused by your speaker cable or the internal wiring on the cab. Worth having a good check of all components.

Guitarist said I had a "nice percussive tone",which I thought was a thoughtful comment. He also prefers the P to the J and was happy when I assured him I would use a pick for any Killers tunes! Singer doesn`t know which universe he`s in. Drummer sees four strings and is happy. Most of them ignore my muttered burblings about flatwounds being the way forward.

All Tomorrows Parties Festivals are very popular at that location.

Wedding at Mitton Hall Clitheroe. Managed to get the PA desk/eq/amps/rack drawers in a couple of racks on wheels, along with wheels on the subs and stands case which made for a much quicker and easier get in and setup, which was especially helpful at this gig. In short: Venue manager,"they`re running half hour late, so once they stop eating, you have 30 mins to get in, get set up, and start the first set. Oh and these guys here will be putting in a dance floor at the same time, and that bloke is the DJ he`ll be setting up at the same time. Oh, and the sound limiter is connected to your power sockets and it`s a bastard." So we got in,didn`t swear at the floor blokes much, and with a bit of prodding actually managed to get the rest of the band to plug a few cables in and get some stands out instead of fiddling with their own equipment while I do it all. Shame the DJ had to run 10 year old Ibiza (s)hits at the same time, meant we had to shout a bit. Managed to get 3 minutes for a soundcheck which lasted 10 seconds when the power went out. Once the power returned and I rebooted out digital desk..... I tweaked a few things down, and we tried again. Repeat One last time, mainly a vocal P.A, subs turned off, no kit except a bit of kick,no guits no bass in P.A. Power remained on. Great. Hit save scene and 2 min to change in the thoughtfully provided [s]dressing room [/s]disabled toilets,(yes, I`m sorry, for banging into you, but you`re sat in the doorway to the disabled toilets. "but your not disabled, you dick" etc.) Managed to get a shandy at the bar and straight on to first set of minimum volume tunes. No obvious means of hearing what I was playing and the singers guitar neck in my right ear. All good, till 25 min in when the drummer managed to snap his kick pedal spring.... Stopped set and announced Buffet Open (honest, not just a cunning diversion) and went at it with two pairs of pliars and some muffled oaths. Drummer declares he loves pliars, I retorted that he might perhaps care to buy some instead of using mine then... Looked up during this activity to see the (ex)keys owner scoffing a big plateful of food and smirking at us. On with second half, tweaked a few things up a bit as more bodies get between us and the limiter mic. Drummer complains one side of his IEMs are down. I can hardly see him let alone his mixer so lipshout at him to centre pan his chans and carry on.I reck one of us stood on and damaged the feed to his desk during the stretchy spring pedal swearing competition. End final song, instant Ibiza 92 and bodies almost on the "stage" dancing. Sweaty noisy pack biting my tongue about "casual" cable wrapping from my colleagues, and fight through the throng to exit with a "sorry no water" from the venue manager. Nicked some cake and legged it. Did I mention the agent took £90 commission on a £600 fee? Good points? My new suit and tie looked spiffing, although the drummer did mutter something about me "looking like a gay financial consultant". Bastard can get his own pliars next time.

Anything involving Josh Homme or Mark Lanegan going back to Screaming Trees, Masters of Reality/Kyuss, up to and including Queens of the stone age and Eagles of Death metal. Man`s a genius. Also you could try a bit of Goblin Cock <snigger> Don`t snigger, they`re excellent. http://youtu.be/uSA3NXM-VTM

Hi W. It does sound like you got a faulty unit. Sounds more and more like a receiver problem with it introducing digital artifacts into the signal path. I`ve had IEM sets like that before where a change of Freq would sort it out, but that`s not worked here. I hope you manage to get a replacement sorted. Please let us know how it turns out. MM

Pretty sure U2s Achtung baby was recorded with only a couple of mics on the kit. One of them an SM58.
