Vintage MIJ (formerly J@pCr@p) Spotting
Monckyman replied to Bassassin's topic in eBay - Weird and Wonderful
Hi. I just bought 80s Hohner P and I have to say it`s an excellent bass. Seller bought it in spring 83 new, dabbled at playing it for a few months, then stuck it in a corner. I`ll stick some pics up in a bit, but I wanted to ask given that he had 20 watchers, why nobody else bid? Have a bought a lemon? I think not, it sounds terrific but, just puzzled about the lack of interest. Also. if anyone has any info/similar bass etc, please shout up, I can`t find anything online. Ta, MM -
Man. That`s nice. So that`s what you`ve been up to! Am quite envious.

Sounds like an earth loop to me. If you can`t pan the FX on the GT (bet you can though, good call Wooks) then use another D.I as a splitter and use the earth lift on that. You could use the XLR out for the dry amp, and the Split/link out 1/4" for the wet. Might just be worth a go before you start rooting through the GTs menus. MM

Agreed, not their best by a mile, but still vibrant and full of life.

Ok Coldplay Janelle, beyonce ... ultra yawn. Queens of the Stone Age. Nuff said.

I worked for a guitarist who while cooking a meal, sliced through the ligament between his thumb and index finger, left hand... He tried desperately to make the nurse set his hand in a neck shaped grip but she wasn`t having any. Result, 2 weeks of tour missed, set completely re-arranged. It took 6 weeks till he could properly grip again. Nice meal though.

The new Ampeg PF500 is getting a lot of love at the mo, and is very good value. Well, the official weight according to Eden Info is 60Lbs. But how much more or less it is with the BL150s I have no idea. My guess is, not a lot different. The original drivers weren`t neos they were EC-1060F Cast Frame. MM ps, still got that parka? -
Hi Kedo, I Only have a Markbass amp, and not had that long, but I`m absolutely loving the tone and volume from it.It packs away into my document bag and weighs sod all. I have old fashioned taste in sound and have loads of 15"s lying about but the 210 Eden I have is comparable to most of them for warmth and beats them on volume simply because the design of the thing is so much more efficient. So the 15"s keep om lying about and the Eden gets used. There are others better placed for commenting on the new and light range of cabs like Barefaced or the Markbass ones, but if you want light loud and deep, there are plenty out there and you don`t have to carry two large heavy cabs anymore. Had a 1x15 H+H 100 watt combo Nice and green and crap. Used it for years

Thanks for the reply, yes I understand how it may be the context that`s emphasising certain freqs, and I can cut them reasonably well on the amp eq. I`ve asked a P.A firm friend to see if he has something knocking about that I can try out. I`m fully expecting to be proven wrong but it`s just an idea I want to try. MM
If it's sub you're after then why not add a sub? I've long been toying with the idea of adding a folded horn sub (maybe a BFM Tuba) for getting that low end moving more things. A good 2x10 can give you just as much "bass" as a good 1x15. It's not so much what size the driver is, but how well tuned the cab is.
Yep, can`t argue with that. I just wanted a possible cheap way of preventing frequency overlap when using the 15" as an add on. Seemed to me a LPF would allow that, and not be permanent or expensive. I`ll go and have a good think. Ta MM

Ok, thanks Lozz. I haven`t given up on the PF500, I`ll be getting one as my backup/ second amp. Just waiting for the dust to settle a bit.
-
A nice way to think. Lozz didn`t you also have a 115? Did the 15+410 combi work? MM

Hello! Never mind the bass , it`s what you get out of it now that counts. Plenty of nice basses about, only one life!
-
As above. They`ve had a better offer and gotten a bit greedy. Wait it out, perhaps go see the other band and see if the business is as good.

All reasonable answers but, Yes I understand the concept of crossover points and the overlapping of certain resonant frequencies, that`s what I`m trying to negate. 1/I don`t subscribe to the same brand theory. thousands of bassists use different brands all the time quite happily. 2/You can only add so much bass into a couple of 210 before it reaches it`s limits. I suppose what I should say is SUB bass. If you need a nice fat dub sound, it`s not going to happen at the volume required. I understand most of the time a cleaner more defined sound is preferable, and for 50% of my set, I`m with that. But I need the capability to wind in that sub. I have considered going 2x15, but that rig probably won`t be tight enough to cover the funk/pop stuff. 3/I could use the EQ to flatten off yes, but then when I need that EQ for another job, it`s gone just making the stack work. So half a solution. I could stick a graphic eq across it I suppose, but you`re right, it does seem ridiculous. 4/ I don`t want a b-amped rig, though that would work the best I think. What I`m suggesting is a cheap workaround in preventing unwanted frequencies getting to the lower cab. There are many multi speaker cabs arranged exactly like this. OK, again, thanks for the replies. Much to consider. I definitely think it`s worth trying an LPF out, if only to convince myself I`m talking out of my arse. MM
