David Eden 2x10 DT Cab SOLD!!!
Monckyman replied to Piggery Bandana's topic in Amps and Cabs For Sale
Ta mark, nice chatting to you! Nice multi-tasking, selling a cab, chatting and baby minding! So, I hurtled back to inner manchester with my prize and chucked my basses in the van and off to rehearsals I went. I stuck the Eden on top of my 410 Ashdown but just plugged the Eden into the ABM amp. Turned it on, turned it up.... Lovely creamy goodness with a suprising amount of top end tingle! I played with the Horn output pot and the EQ a little on my amp but really, it was all there out of the box. A direct comparison with the ashdown 410 put both equal to my ears for decibels, but the Eden was much tighter, more snap, more low mids, more presence. So I did the rest of the rehearsal with it on its own and actually ended up turning my amp down below my usual levels. All in all I`m very chuffed, thanks Mark. MM -

piezo through the PA and mag for monitoring
Monckyman replied to fatback's topic in EUB and Double Bass
Well I think it`s a great idea and the Mag coming back to stage idea was for the other members of the band rather than you. The phase manipulation will be dead useful too. I`m presuming any treatment of the Piezo will be left to the FOH engineer? I`ve sort of used this idea on other instruments where I needed different treatment for different members of the band. Basically I split for instance the bass D.I into two chans and dedicate one for the band and one for the bassist. This way the band can have a cleaner sharper EQ and a good bit of compression chosen by me, and the bassist gets to hear it like he specifically wants without my compression. Used this on metal drummer kiks, deaf vocalists who need loads of midrange, etc So, this takes that technique a step further with diff pickups for different jobs. I like. Would love to hear how it works out. MM -
Please keep all experiences and comments on this amp coming, I`m half way through raising the cash for one and enjoy hearing about them being used. Ta MM

piezo through the PA and mag for monitoring
Monckyman replied to fatback's topic in EUB and Double Bass
I think you could get away with a fair bit of Mag in the monitors without any problems but you then have three different aspects of sound, Backline, FOH and monitors. Just need to be on top of it is all. -

Erm.No, can`t think of one really.. Your Piezo will be picking up stage noise anyway, and monitors etc, you might want to be able to play around with the phase onstage in case there`s any cancellation with what FOH is doing. Not having done this I can`t really say but, won`t your playing suit the Mag pickups responses more than the piezo? Do you play differently when the Piezo is your onstage sound(apart from hiding behind the singer to avoid low end feedback)? What signal would FOH send back to monitors,if any? IE maybe worth taking the MAG to FOH anyway so it can be delivered to the drummer etc, or (shock horror) blend it in out front also. Worth experimenting. Please let us know how you got on, it`s a good`un. -

I thought the stones only wrote one song? And if they didn`t surely there was only one bassline?

Lo. I have a DBX266, but I don`t use it for gating. This is primarily a compressor with the gate as a bonus. Though the gate works fine, and has a threshold control, the only other pot is a ratio pot, because it`s more of a Gate/expander affair. The ratio determines the amount of expander used and turned right up it gates completely. However there are no envelope pots,so you don`t get to choose how quickly it starts gating, or how slowly it stops gating. The auto timing on the unit is pretty good though, not too clicky or jerky. Section from the manual "Expander/Gate THRESHOLD Control and LEDs (BELOW/ABOVE) Adjusting this control sets the level at which the gate will open and allow the signal at the input to pass through to the output. Turning the knob fully counterclockwise (to OFF) allows the gate to pass all signals unattenuated, effectively bypassing the gate. Turning the knob fully clockwise causes the gate to attenuate input signals below +15dBu. The depth of attenuation depends on the setting of the Expander/Gate RATIO control. The two Expander/Gate LEDs indicate the relationship of the input signal level to the threshold setting. The red LED lights when the signal is BELOW threshold, the green LED lights when the signal is ABOVE threshold." The compressor is fully featured and in my opinion well worth having if you have rack space as it gives far more control over your compression than the average on off gain you get on a pedal. The metering allows you to see exactly what`s going in, and what`s coming out, plus the extra lights will be attractive to females. If you`re cunning you can use the two sides for different basses so you can compensate for different pickup outputs on different instruments and compress accordingly. I`ve had to make a patch up for my backup Jazz bass as it`s pickups are a lot hotter than the Nordys in my main bass and my standard compressor setting was choking it down. Borrow one and try before ye buy but I reckon £50 should secure one from the El Bey DBX266xl manual MM

For sale, my ABM500 115 combo. PRICE DROP TO [s]£270[/s] £250. This was made in the UK in 2002. I know this because it says so in marker pen inside on the chassis and it also says 03/02 in the serial number on the back. That makes this a Series One EVO, widely regarded as the best sounding of all the EVO range. I have replaced the VU led recently and there are ultra quiet fans in place of the stock ones so much quieter and I reckon more efficient too. The stock Blueline 15" has been replaced with a Made for Ampeg Eminence 300w which to my ears makes the best of the cab and gives a deep warm but tight tone. All the buttons, pots, lights and switches are in good order. The tolex has a couple of very small dings, no real rips or scrapes. All corners and feet are present. I have not gigged this amp, only rehearsed with it, and it lived in the rehearsal room so minimal movement in the last 8 weeks. I now have a new amp head and the ABM is at home in a corner not being used. I`m asking[s] £300[/s] £270 and [s]collection from Manchester or by arrangement, I can deliver in Greater Manchester.[/s] To be discussed. I don`t mind a bit of driving. Here`s some pics. Flowers not included. Any questions, ask away. MM
