Just found an ad on ebay for some arco p.a cabs containing.. "AC euro Speakers 250 watts loaded with eminence me15-2008 8 ohm 200 watt speaker plus horns" Could it be as simple as the 2008 being 200watts @8ohms?

Thanks Bod for the reply. I wonder if there`s any way I can test this ti get the power rating?

Bridge is warped and a wing has snapped off Good excuse to fit an adjustable!

Hi Paul ta for the reply. It looks at least 10 years old, probably twice that. The varnish on the back has a nice pattern of glaze cracks. The spike adjustment screw has stripped it`s thread, I`m not sure if re-tapping to a bigger screw size or buying a new spike post makes more sense. It has no label or identifying marks. What more do I want? Well lower action and the knowledge I`m not chucking £££ at an old school dog I suppose. The bridge comment is interesting, shall go and check it out.. DM

I just took the driver out of my Ashdown ABM 500 evo II and although told it was a black widow, found instead an Eminence. Now I knew it wasn`t the original driver, you can see it`s black and not the ashdown blue, so that`s ok, and I`m not too arsed about it not being a BW, I just need to find a little more info on what exactly it is. The pic shows all, an Eminence ME-15 2008 into 8ohms. What I don`t know is the rating in watts. There is no other lable anywhere else on this driver. Can`t find anything of use via google so hence me asking here. Any help appreciated, Dave M

Hello all. I have a cheap (£350) Double bass I bought off ebay last year to see if I would enjoy getting back into playing one after 20 years. The action isn`t great, the strings are £20 cheapies and it needs a few minor repairs to the woodwork, mainly filling and sanding though, no cracks. I`d like to ask if anyone thinks it`s worth spending money on, to get it set up properly,bridge/soundpost etc, or whether I should sell it on, save a bit and spend a bit more? I know its difficult to give judgement online without playing it, all I can say is, it has a nice tone. Looks like it`s been laquered with something on the front, like a satin polyurethane type of thing, how easy/advisable would this be to remove? I can post better pics if needed. I appreciate any advise anyone can give. Thanks Dave M

Just to chip in, I`m gearing up to setting my DB up for live performance and I`d like to ask whether the magnetics pickups really capture the accoustic tone of the intrument or whether they make your DB sound more like an electric?

Trubass arrived this a.m! ta for the replies, chimes with my thinking.

For me the best setup is over amping. Amps trying to punch above their weight produce square waves (clipping) and your driver won`t like that. Headroom on the amp means lovely squiggly waves like it`s supposed to be. Just don`t use any power (volume) you don`t need, no need to compress if you don`t want.

Thought I`d post this link that I found of interest. It needs translating from French but it scans ok. Vox Custom Bass

I`m sorry but that drummer is THE best ad I ever saw for an Alesis HR16. This thread, has been the most entertaining thing I read all week, and it isn`t over yet. I`m not sure how I feel about that...

Exactly my point.

Ditto, I was actually suggesting compromise. But it would be good to know whether the amp was tested properly in a shop and at what voltage. Could all just be a simple misunderstanding.

I think a quick call to Guitar Guitar could clarify a lot. And the seller is a member and can post all he likes.

Speaking as one of the **** ,I think asking fellow forum members for their advice and opinions in public is totally acceptable as a way to finding a solution. it can be incredibly frustrating coping with stuff like that on your own. Seems to me you were both a little fuzzy when it came to making sure it was UK compatible. You assumed it was, and the seller didn`t point out it wasn`t, despite that line in your message.maybe he truly believed it was UK compat. So, maybe you should be looking at alternatives to getting the deal unmade. Can I ask is the amp definitely a US model with a fixed/non switchable 120 voltage? Where was it tested in the UK, and have you spoken to them? How expensive for it to have a new UK transformer fitted? I know you`d rather just call it a day, but maybe there`s a compromise. Good luck. MM

Hi all Ryderites. I noticed a lot of you have fitted Rotosound Trubass nylons. I mention this because I don`t have a SR but do have a Stagg P-bass copy, which sounds ok, that I intend to fit trubass nylons to and go for that dubby dull james jamerson old string vibe. Is this what some of you intend for the Ryders, and is it because you feel it will suit this role more than a bright zingy stringed snapping machine? MM

Ok, the wealth of Basschat decrees tinfoil. Thanks for the reply Dave. I wasn`t aware that Jazz single poles buzzed so much. I did know unshielded basses picked up mains and RF buzz. I have started to shield the cavities with copper etc so no prob. The pots I reckon are correct also, logarythmic is it? That`s just the way they are with perceived change over 10%.. I may change these for linear at some point to compare. Pickups.. hmm, i1ll be changing these for humbuckers at some point, I just dont know enough about the choices just yet. And I`m skint All in all this bass is great,I`ve lowered the action a little, changed the strings for some d`adarios and it`s great. I`m just being an extra pedantic picky bastard coz it`s a bass forum and I`m allowed. Dave.

Sorry but.... Why would anyone pay up to £600+ to go play for free for someone you never met? Doesn`t spec who hires the gear/drives the van. SOME food will be provided, so no P.Ds either. Also, the amount of gigs is pretty vague, between 7 &12? So he doesn`t know, and its a month away? Big Hmmmmmm Also, I`m presuming he will be getting a proper work visa and not just a tourist visa? You really don`t want the seppos gripping you working without a work visa. They dont appreciate it. So, less than a month to pay for your flight, and work visa, and learn the tunes and cancel any paying work you may have already. Who could resist? -

My Jazz is buzzin! Not in the Sean Ryder "nice one top one yeah sorted mint" Manc nomenclature, but in the accepted shandy drinking southerner sense of the word. Symptoms. General light earth buzz when tone pot is wide open. lessens when strings/pots/bridge is touched. Lower darker earth buzz when either of the pickups is rolled off even a little. makes blending impossible at any volume. When both pickups are on full the buzz cancels out. All the pots seem to be bunching also, can`t hear any appreciable difference till the last bit of track, though on inspection look like original CTS.They all sound a bit noisy/dirty also, prob been unused for a while. I have some copper screening left over from the Vox P which was also buzzing a little, but the two pickup config is new to me so I need advice. I`ll go have a trawl through the archives also, see what there is. Ta, Dave.

+1 on "In-ear monitors are also a good option - used in conjunction with your amp. " Speaking as a sound man the pickup you use will definitely make a difference. eg, on Thurs I had an American touring band in a church, and the double bassist/drummer used a B-Brand D1(the older model) and that took 5 minutes to eq and get him sat nicely in the monitors. No amp, though they are a quiet band. Saturday in a small venue with a local band, cheaper DB(plywood) with a Fischmann and I was rolling off loads of low mids to prevent hooting..And that was with only two accoustics and a vocal in the band! However, in your situation with that many people onstage, you`re hardly ever going to get a proper chance to EQ your bass to the stage you`re on and that goes for "positioning" your amp also, and so you will always struggle. The in -ears solution should work well, you can experiment with sealed or open style headphone buds or even expand the idea and stick it all through a small mixer with an ambient mic on a stand to blend in the band. You could get away without using a beltpack initially, just use the headphones out from the mixer. Sounds a faff but once you had it all in a little rack it would throw up in minutes and you may find you don`t need the large amp so much as a cube type monitoring amp. MM
