Anyone know what strings these are? Black silks on rounds
Robert Manning replied to Robert Manning's topic in Bass Guitars
Sorry forgot to mention these where not fitted by them, but came with the bass when sold to them. I didn’t get new strings from Bbros (I always normally use elixir anyway) -
Upgraded with what I believe are Bartolini BA 9J1 Set (they are dead silent and passive soo..) + Pre amp upgraded to a Nordstrand 2B-4c I think I still have the original MEC if that's of interest been thinking of selling this for a while, I've owned since 2012; my bass teacher at the time had some and I made it my mission to get one as I fell in love with the feel. Have used it throughout uni back in the day for jazz and later in life used it for various metal projects. it has jazz pickups but sounds nothing like a jazz; sounds like a Thumb ha! angry, punchy... angry sounding lol. its shape and ergonomics make it comfy to play seated and standing but its of course quite a weird bass if youve never used one; but so fun to play ... time to let it go and let someone else enjoy! Trades wise- im open really ill entertain anything and can maybe put some cash your way. these cost a lot new. I recorded a sound demo to show you guys what it's like. it's a modern sounding bass that actually sounds lovely to rock playing too. I have ordered a new concentric knob for the bass/treb (hopefully it fits and will be with me soon) Weight: Warwick. lol its made of dark matter; I'll try and get a measurement soon. Serial number: c-098766-03 Article number: 1224030000BZOVAOWW produced: 10.04.2003 Description: Thumb BO, 4-string Natural Oil finish Ovangkol body Ovangkol neck Black hardware Made in Germany IMG_7691.heic IMG_7692.heic IMG_7693.heic IMG_7694.heic IMG_7695.heic IMG_7696.heic IMG_7697.heic IMG_7698.heic IMG_7699.heic IMG_7700.heic IMG_7702.heic IMG_7704.heic IMG_7690.heic

Back up for sale taking off hold. Was in the process of postage so have a MusicMan retail box and boatload of bubble wrap and a protection racket semi hard case ready to ship. The hard case has a dodgy ZIP so it’s more of a vessel for postage than a case; still a bonus tho! 🤓 UPS: it would be (£67.24 inc VAT) this is fully insured for £600 ParcelForce: (£37.54 inc VAT) this is fully insured for £600 via overland express I believe. I would recommend UPS as I used it twice before but the option for a more affordable shipping is there! I’m really hoping to scrape some money together to get my dream bass a reliced 60s custom shop jazz so I’m not super interested is trades but you never know cheers!

Hey! Alright so, I got my eye on something and this shall be the sacrificial lamb... Been using this for a while and had lots of fun playing it. it's a PJ so nothing crazy. you already know the drill. its stated as made in USA but a few google searches mention in shares some parts made in Mexico... im not sure what the law was in the US at the time where it was okay to state made in the USA depending on the domestic parts - perhaps someone could fill me in. either way it plays and feels just as good as any US fender own. condition wise - quite good for a bass this age; its 27 years old. I used bathroom digital scales and got an estimate weight of 4.1kg but that is a very rough estimate im afraid I took an average of about 6 weigh ins with me holding the bass. Thin Jazz neck. Anodised gold pick guard. I had the frets polished and crowned at my local luthier back in portsmouth a year ago. they are still super shiny! always lemon oiled and well loved after. I gave it a deep clean and took apart the bridge and cleaned that too. also took the neck off to reveal its production date. no major dents or nicks in the finish - but does show signs of use throughout the years as you can see in the photos. The finish on the back of the neck has worn away in places and I have periodically given it a rub down with scotchbrite to smooth over any blemishes and keep the satin feel. (maybe?...) I think the previous owner had it in a conservatory for a few hot summers perhaps as some of the finish around the decals has cracked; other than that it's in great shape. it may need a new tone pot; its working but sometimes cuts out until give it a little wiggle - so for gigging I would give it a look at. could be a simple fix. collection preferred but happy to talk shipping, I would use overland express via UPS as recently did a trade with these guys and everything went smoothly. I recorded a demo of some sounds with some rusty ass playing! but its gives you an idea of its tonal character - its quite a snappy bass.

thats a stunningly low price! I sold mine on eBay many years back, but there must of been a reason I think I 16 year old me must have wanted a flashy active bass! I remember a while back seeing a post on here on the 'eBay weird and Wonderfull' section getting blasted saying it was fake (ouch). So was pretty cool stumbling across another one online.

https://www.bassdirect.co.uk/product/fender-jazz-bass-gloss-black-1988-made-in-korea-pre-owned/ I used to have one of these in white, was my first real bass...when I first started playing. I remember 15 years ago not seeing anything online at all in regards to info on these. Still quite a mystery though. Anyway; just a curiosity really. wondering if anyone else had one of these? it was a nice bass, quite cheap that!

Hey man so I can’t say for sure the accuracy of weight but weighing myself and the bass i was getting a difference of 4.4kg but that’s using digital scales and the reading was moving around quite a bit so take that with a pinch of salt. I’m seeing if anyone near me has some decent scales so I can confirm the actual weight. it’s lighter than my USA jazz, but heavier than my USA P. I think anyway. I’ll get the measurements of the neck when I get home from work tonight cheers

reduced to £300 for collection. Picked this up from Facebook marketplace 18 months ago down south, from a lady who's names escapes me... believe this used to believe to Biro on here... I paid 560 for it which was a decent price. Used this for a recording project and have really enjoyed the Bass. When I moved to Scotland it suffered a bit of a knock and the pots took a bit of a beating, I've taken it to Guitar Guitar, and JA Guitar Repairs (he's cool) in Edinburgh, both of which have done an okay job of trying to fix it but its not 100% full health... The good: -The neck is stunning -The frets are still perfect, can take the action down to an impossible low level and sting frets cleanly -Fret ends are finished to perfection, I think this has maybe been done since new because they are beautifully rounded and smooth. -Nordy big singles The bad: -Truss rod cover missing (prev owner) -Pots are scratchy but functional -Sometimes, but NOT always we have single coil hum that's annoying... wiring is not earthed properly (maybe? I'm not a bass doctor) I just played it a monument ago, if I turn the blend pot back and forth a few times the hum stops. -A prev owner I think has changed the 3 way mid selector switch to a two way; which I feel also tells me the wiring has been looked at before. The ugly: - Guitar Guitar gave it back to me with two missing screws on the rear cavity... and lost them. NICE. sure they can be picked up cheap. ive already sunk some time and money into sorting this out. so Im going to sell it a loss too someone on here that can probably fix it with ease, convert it to passive, or have pots to spare. it could just need new pots.. I don't think the actual preamp is damaged and it would make sense that the pots are the reason for the issues as they got hurt during the move. collection from Edinburgh Send us a DM for more info incase I missed anything. Cheers! Robert.

Reducing down to £1000 for a straight sale. Location: Edinburgh Hey, been a while since I done a sale/trade. So this may be long shot but would love to trade my USA Sterling for a MM Stingray. Reason being I much prefer the thicker neck profile of the Stingray (I regret selling my old stingray so would love one back in the collection!) Sounds similar to the Stingray of course but with a bit more bite in the mids which I think is due to the ceramic pickup - also some extra flexibility with the coil tapping. I think a trick up the Sterlings' sleeve is engaging the single coil mode; sounding a bit like a bridge pickup jazz with a Musicman tonal vibe. This I love about the Sterling, but I just can't get on with the thinner neck. bit hard to value this as there are so few around. I am prepared to add cash your way for a trade. Some minor scuffs, and some buckle rash from the previous owner. - Had a set up, jack fix, and some internal wiring looked at last year at http://sglguitars.mysite.com - Newish light gauge slinkies fitted still pretty fresh. - Brand new official bridge saddles fitted recently curtesy of ahpook (what a guy!!) (the old ones seized) - truss rod all good. Any questions, or more photos or anything give me a shout! may be open to other trades. just in person dealing at the moment. willing to travel bit. can come over and take a look, I have a small PJB amp. Cheers Robert.

Yeah proper stripped. I think a combination of sweat/oxidation etc and the extreme heat it just crumbled. I tried to use some pliers but there’s not enough to get a grip on. thankfully it’s enough of a stump to the point that it’s how I would have my action so I flipped the saddles around the bass is now playable. I was thinking; I have a Dremel drill and so tiny mettle drill bits - wondering if I could drill through it and masticate the screw.

Hey guys! so I picked up a MusicMan Sterling (USA) a while ago in a trade. Lovely thing; although I’ve not really touched it for a while, recently I thought to give it a nice set up… until, to my horror I realised the previous owner has glued the bridge saddles with permanent thread locker. I think it’s permanent Thread locker as there are remnants on a browny red marks around the saddles. but man, can’t adjust those saddles at all - how sad. I’ve tried bathing them in acetone over night. I tried heating them with a heat gun to see if that breaks down the adhesive all in vain . anyone got any ideas? looks like you cannot order replacements to the UK. And I’m not sure if an aftermarket set of saddles would work. I feel like Ryan Gosling in the Papyrus SNL sketch. Just wondering to myself why they did this. Hahah.
