1. so far way is what I meant - Germany is a great place - i have a bass to offer up, but wont trade without a tryout - that's basically why
2. where are you if you do want to trade? locality is an issue - I wouldn't wanna trade without trying first
3. SOLD SOLD SOLD SOLD SOLD SOLD SOLD SOLD SOLD SOLD SOLD SOLD SOLD repaired spilt in the headstock - not a that obvious and not a problem (see pix) 70's? early 80's? great action - vintage sound here's a video / sound clip: in Essex for previews
4. have you considered trades? I've several bass related bits I wouldn't mind trading. Don't really need this but I thought it might make my crappy backing vocals into something a little more useful. S
5. gosh - can't believe someone hasn't snapped this up.....what's going on round here? have a bump on me! my feedback: http://basschat.co.u..._1#entry1420957

Quote
MultiQuote
6. if this dont sell in an instant, then there's something seriously going wrong with the economy!! I've seen quite a few basses on the site going for silly money and no one seems to be buying - gawd 'elp us!
7. wow! brill deal!! wouldn't mind that mirror plate for mine..!
8. precision pickup: Bartolini 8S Jazz pickup: Bartolini 9J#1 - duel coil humbucker (bridge) these are used but in good condition. separately i'll take £65 for the 'P' (£127 on line new) and £55 for the Jazz (£78 on line) or £100 for the PJ set ( can't find the set on line, but on ebay USA £105 + £20 postage + tax) so not a brilliant deal - but not bad either!! the white mark on it is a bit of furniture polish residue
9.
Colour me interested...
me too....great post although I must say my Barts 9j4 which are now discontinued I think sound the nuts although the output is a bit week! I love my Barts but I think I'm gonna try a 'Trad' in my 'P' hope the wife won't mind...
10. little bump!
11. found this which answers my query, http://www.talkbass.com/forum/f38/adding-passive-tone-pot-active-preamp-431666/
12. right, here we go...i'll try and explain it best I can......... my 5 string has the J East deluxe preamp and my 4 string has the regular J retro. The difference between the two is the deluxe version has a 4th control which is passive and effects the overall tone wether in active mode or passive. I love this, it's like having two basses in one. In passive mode it's just a regular passive bass - 'old school' on a switch! In passive mode on the regular J retro, there's no tonal control in passive. Its still great, but knowing what I'm missing because of my other bass is getting me thinking..... The deluxe has a small circuit board running from the pickup inputs of the pre amp and is effectively smoothing them down to earth before they hit the preamp. I assume the board's job is, besides attenuating the earth through a cap is also keeping the p'ups independent from each other - correct me if I'm wrong. So it occurred to me, that if I put a regular passive tone pot after the preamp with a 250k pot and a cap of some sort, taking the single hot wire before it hits the jack output, that it should work in the same way as a regular passive tone, providing I only use it in passive mode. I'm assuming in active mode the impedance might be a lot different and impact negatively on my active sound. you reckon this'll work?? all advice welcome - please!!!
13.
Away from the intricate nature of sunburst finishes on ply and wood (whip the control plate out for a photo if there is still questions) I think the far more interesting thing is the neck- I can't remember seeing a japcrap jazz with a maple neck with pearloid blocks (and no binding) anyone else? And the tuners look similar to the tuners you would get on tokai jazz sounds? Quite exciting I think, I want to try it but too far (and these observations are made by someone who regrets selling a japcrap jazz and if I were closer would be asking to come around and try it)
thanks mate !
14.
I stand by what I said. You asked for an explanation, I did my best to give it in good faith. It's not my problem, you sort it. Bye.
thanks for your help!
15.
A solid wood bass is very unlikely to have the black paint as it is on your bass. We know this from experience. You can tell stuff from the paint job. The paint job is important and clear evidence that the bass is ply and, as you later confirmed, it is ply. And, I think, the more you protest then the less likely you are to sell it here.
this must be a ply wood bass too then I guess.... http://www.gjsguitar...ss-guitars-amps and: http://www.tdpri.com...php/photo/18158 or this: http://www.guitarpla...ition_1996_.asp you can tell by the way they're painted - apparently!
16. dont think it'll happen now - cheers
17.
So, do you get why we thought it was ply and not solid alder and that we did know what we were talking about? They weren't 'emphatic negative remarks' but factual observations based on prior experience.
nope, still dont know what you're on about , your pix dont prove your bass aint ply or otherwise - as I said, you can't tell by the paint job, and that was what was said wasn't it?! are these observations made by anyone who actually might be interested in buying the bass btw? I know you all just wanna help, and its all said out of love
18.
Well, I only commented because you asked (in a post you've since deleted, I think) why someone would suggest that it was ply. but the black paint covering the places where ply would show is exactly what happens on sunburst ply basses.
exactly - well thanks for that!
19.
It looks like ply because of the way in which the black paint covers the belly cut and the forearm cut where the ply would show if it wasn't blacked out.
not denying its a ply body, but I still dont know what you guys are talking about when you say the paint job is obviously hiding its construction. I've owned plenty of sunburst guitars of varying standards and this looks no different from the rest of them. The black pigment always goes round the outer edge of the bass and the edge surrounds. This looks as good as any vintage Fender and definitely better than the shameful finishes I've seen on some of the Fender Mex basses. I wish, before you guys that make these emphatic negative remarks all over someones post actually know what they're talking about.
20.
Question: where abouts is the crack on the headstock? I can't see it
across the circular bit of the headstock - it's been repaired quite well which makes it quite discrete
21. ok guys , it just assumed it was a slab cos I couldn't see any joins in the body. I've looked in the control cavity and indeed it is ply, thanks for the heads up...... still looks, plays and sounds great!!!
22. keeping it for the time being!
23. its overall design is different - half closed gear. No ferule, its replaced with a sleeve type bolt and washer which hold the tuner in place. No screws needed to hold this in place. Also, it has two small posts that fit to corresponding holes on the back of the headstock which stops it slipping. Although this is easily installed into any Fender type bass and would work well, it probably wont aesthetically match with with the other tuners.
