1. Hi Cai, Welcome to Basschat. Congratulations on the album launch. Just had a listen on your myspace page. Liking the sound of those tracks very much.
2. We've got a gig booked for next Saturday (30th May) in Blackpool that we can't do, so I need to try and get a replacement band lined up. Anyone interested, please PM your band and contact details. Cheers, Pete.
3. Two drummers as well. Maybe James thought they couldn't keep up with him so they could have a rest by doing alternate songs.
4. Very........very.......very nice indeed.
5. My influences have come from a multitude of people. My dad's record collection....The Beatles, loads of Rock n Roll, lots of 60s stuff, and some great country & western thrown in. My sister's record collection......in amongst the crap like The Bay City Rollers, there was some really good stuff like 10cc. But I think I just found "The Jam" by myself. They just did everything for my as a kid. Since then, I suppose it was my former drummer (and my best man) who has been the biggest influence musically.....as I was to him. We just gelled as musicians and as mates. I introduced him to the kind of stuff I was listening to at the time (funk, the remnants of New Wave, etc.) and he introduced me to stuff like Rush, Led Zep, etc. Then together we started exploring jazz, fusion, and plenty of other stuff of all different genres. And I think that was it. We both encouraged each other to be very open minded about music. So I have a very wide range of tastes.
6. I had the pleasure of seeing him play live last year at the Manchester Jazz Festival. Had a chat with him afterwards. Thoroughly nice bloke. He taught a guy called Ollie Collins up here who is now the bass tutor at Salford University.
7.
...I was singing what I was playing, not playing what I was singing. He was absolutely right....
Yeah, something that Victor Wooten does with a guy on his "Groove Workshop" DVD. The difference between the two is very noticeable.
8. This is one of those "my sister's neighbour's dog walker's postman's milkman's paper boy's dad's...." A guy I work with.....well his wife's cousin is Ged Lynch, the drummer with Peter Gabriel.
9. Bump in the night.
10. You're right. If someone's after one, but not picky about it being sunburst rather than natural finish, then that is a great BIN.
11.
I really don't think you should go. Theres quite a few people on here that arn't from the UK. But, yeah, i really think you should stick around a bit longer and then make ur mind up. I love this forum and there are soo many helpful people on here, and you shouldn't be put off by the small minority that arn't. Zo x edit: typoooo
Yeah mate, stick around. No doubt, no matter what forum you go on, there's always going to be a number of knobs, and surely there are a few here (maybe my included ), but to be honest I've mostly come across helpful, friendly people. To name a few.....BassBunny, yorks5stringer, jakesbass, mistahbenn, beedster, lee650, OldGit, peety, Rasta, Machines, antibarbie (see....not all blokes), and more..... I've made good friends out of being on here too, so trust me, it's not all bad. Maybe anyone you think you may have pissed off are only jealous cos you live in eternal sun, and we very rarely beat you at sports! Fell free to PM me any questions you have and I'll see if there's anything I can do to help. Cheers, Pete.
12. I've had the same set of Hybrid Slinkys on my MM since I got it last August, and they're only just about dead. If I'd have been flushed with cash I'd have changed them a month or two ago, but they've still had enough life left in them to live with. So all in all I'm very happy with them. Prior to that (on my other basses) I used Warwick Red Labels as they were cheap. Sounded OK to start with but deadened very easily. I also bought 3 sets of DR FatBeams from the USA. Took a lifetime to arrive, then the first set lasted about a month, the second set half a gig, and the third set I gave away with a bass I sold. Not impressed at all.
13. G'day cobber! Welcome mate. Nice to hear from someone from round t'other side of the planet. Spent my honeymoon travelling the east coast of Oz, and have relations living in Melbourne, so I envy you every waking day! Have fun on here mate. All the best, Pete.
14. Yeah, he's obviously going to feel slightly bitter for a while cos his pride's been hurt - hence the "I quit" comments. All I would say is, stay civilised about it, and don't get dragged into any bad feeling if there is any in the future. We had to sack a singer years ago, and he wouldn't speak to any of us (even if we were stood next to him in a bar) for years. We kept our heads high, I always let onto him to see if I got anything in return. Eventually, he realised he was being a dick and changed his ways. All in all, you know you've done the right thing, and good luck moving on.
15. That seriously is just about the nicest "jazz" bass I've ever seen. Absolutely stunning. Damn the recession!
16.
'fist dance' number...
A fist dance......my God man, what kind of wedding was it??????
17. Wedding gig at Somerford Hall near Crantock. Small room, but a great gig. Everyone was up for it right from the start. And the only wedding we've done to date that's nearly run to time!
18. Our guitarist's got the AC30 version of this headphone amp and absolutely loves it.
19. Without reading the entire thread, we were in exactly the same situation. This is what we did:- We placed an ad on Partysounds to find a replacement. We had to be ruthless and try and find a permanent replacement before sacking him because of the amount of work we had in. We found someone, rehearsed with him until he was ready, and then had a "band meeting" at a pub local to the drummer. It was difficult, as like you, our guitarist was a good friend of his and they used to travel to gigs together. We sat there for ages, as nobody knew how to start it (and it wasn't going to be me as I'd only been with the band a few months). Eventually, the guitarist just stumped up the courage and said "We're sorry [insert name here], but we're going to have to replace you". He felt terrible, but he saw the benefit to the band (and probably him as a guitarist) as the greater good. He tried to almost beg his way back into the band, but we then gave him numerous reasons as to why.....taking far too long to learn material......bringing more and more gear for his kit each week despite not knowing how to just really hold a tight rhythm........his girlfriend was a nightmare.......etc. We then took the van back to his house and dropped his kit off and left it at that. So basically, there's no easy way of doing it. It's best just to try and stay calm and tell the guy the truth. If he chooses to fall out with you about it, that's really his problem not yours.
20. Lovely bass sound on Ruff John mate. Which bass did you use on that? Back at the casino any time soon?
21. Ha ha Jake.....you make me look deliriously happy I'm always criticising our drummer for much the same thing.
22. Is it this one? Fender Tye Zamora Bass Guitar Lovely bass if it is.
23.
Thanks. Bear in mind it has had some EQ'ing in Reason. Although I think the Zoom was pretty much flat, I just use it to boost the signal. Just had a trawl through my old posts and the bass including a replacement black scratchplate and shipping cost around £170. The Artec pickups I got from Prosebass for £20. So I make that £190. Paul.
Nice one. Money well spent.
24.
I've subscribed...and made a video! I will upload it to the basschat channel once it's sorted. P.
That's a really nice sound that. How much did it cost you in total for the bass + mods?
