how is the G string on this? projects well?
It was my main gigging bass til I got my GB Spitfire, and I never had any cause for complaint. On another note, the Ibanez Blazer in your avatar was my first serious bass! I got one cos I loved the Stingray (like the one I'm selling), but couldn't afford one. Wish I still had that bass too. -
Due to my engine deciding to commit suicide, and a replacement required, I sadly have to sell my Stingray 2EQ in natural with maple neck and black scratchplate. I took this from Matt (Machines) in a swap deal in 2008, and loved it from the moment I saw it. It's in fantastic condition for a 16 year old bass. Matt had obviously looked after it, and I have too. Matt's original swap thread As Matt stated in his thread, the previous owner had a new pickup position routed, but Matt immediately moved the pickup back to its original position. I've kept it in the original position too. It doesn't affect the tone, and is a very clean job, should you wish to experiment in the other position. Some of the photos are Matt's which he has kindly allowed me to use. Any questions, please free to ask. Price £650 (+ p&p if delivery required). It should be rank, but it's absolutely stunning. Well done that man!

I can't remember the track precisely, but I remember many, many years ago, Radio One had a week where differents contemporary singers/musicians took over the evening slot and played just music from their own personal collection. I was a big Jam fan at the time, and Paul Weller played a lot of stuff from his influences, so there was a lot of old soul, etc. Then he played an MJQ track, and it just hit me. That was approximately 30 years ago, and it still makes me want to listen to them even now.

Whats the best bass cover you ever learnt
Thunderthumbs replied to gub's topic in General Discussion
The one I remember from playing years ago, that is still one of the most impressive songs we did is Mr Blue Sky by ELO. Not bad for a 5 piece covers band. Used to play the bass, bass pedals and backing vocals (including the high operatic ones), so I had my work cut out! -
BASS POLL -Your opinion greatly appreciated!

Before I'd even found out what it was I'd have gone for Bass 1. It's got a nice tone, and sounds slightly "old school" in that it's warmer and has more depth. I think the one thing it does prove is that your username is incorrect -
Hey Justin, sounds good that. Must be great fun to play too. Cheers, Pete.

East J-Retro 01 - 'Before and After' Comparison Sound Clips
Thunderthumbs replied to xilddx's topic in General Discussion
I never really thought this until a few months back when I realised I hadn't owned a fully passive bass since I was 17!! My 75 precision has had EMGs since I got it. My $$5 is active and I rarely use the passive option. I fitted a East Retro on my Marcus I bought off Gaf on here - although already active, the East brought it totally to life and gives it enormous presence - I have done some a/b recordings to show my old school mate who insists passive is best esp on a Fender and even when balanced the active just cuts through so much better (you can find the sweet spot easier). I do occasionally switch it to passive but usually I am left wondering why would anyone want a bass to sound like that!! (Please take this as a purely personal statement of taste - if you dig passive then fabulous, it's every bit as great) If I can juggle finances then it will be a 4 knob U retro on my $$5 and a P retro on my Precision. Fitting an East is a great investment.
Nice to hear that about the Marcus. I've got one with the original pre on it, and thought about an East a few times. Still something worth thinking about then. -
Jim Smith-Cardiacs definately merits a mention here. Super solid player of some very abstract nonsence given to him by his brother to play along to. http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=OxhuQWKwbqY
Excellent choice. I remember hearing "Tarred & Feathered" when I was younger and it blew me away. Still one of my favourite tracks of all time.

James Jamerson does it for me every time.
Don't worry... I had a fake Hussar jacket and a white line across my nose!
An old work colleague of mine did the same, but with Tippex instead of face paint, and ended up with a burn stipe across his face

The said Mr Tibbs in full "Ants" garb.
Ah yes... Gary Tibbs, saw him with Adam & The Ants back in 1981 at the Dominion Theatre on the Prince Charming tour... Oops! Have I dated myself there...?!?
Same here but at the Manchester Apollo. Got on the bus with purple nail varnish on. Not my finest moment.

Fantastic idea. I've subscribed (pclark01) and added 3.

Marcus.....as one comment says...."he doesn't just work the pocket...he IS the pocket". Funny when the guy says he can't believe he's telling Marcus how to play the bass
Kev, try out Trip Wamsley http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=t1qTd2c72GM...feature=related or Michael Manring http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=9gyVSNWXoJs...feature=related Let me know how you get on ;o)))
Good call on Trip.
I've now seen Richard twice. Inspirational both times and not just for his bass playing. He gets my vote!
I thought exactly the same. Could listen to him talk all day long.

Jimmy Earl's self titled CD. Worth getting just for "Pavane Pour une Infante Défunte" alone.
That second live track is sublime. f***ing ace!
Prince is just the modern embodiment of funk and groove for me. Absolutely love that stuff.
