Absolutely appalling live performances ...
bassbloke replied to Sawtooth's topic in General Discussion
Those were the most appalling videos I've ever seen, I would rather listen to someone throw up against an out of tune harp whilst reciting Cannibal Corpse lyrics then go through that excruciating experience again.
Verdine white and rocco prestia are both players that sound decidedly unimpressive on their own, but stick them in a good band and they're dynamite. -
Knurled Saddles? Whats so great about them?
bassbloke replied to son of frog's topic in Repairs and Technical
I wouldn't know about improved tone, but one benefit of knurled saddles over grooved, especially on a 5 string, is the ability to increase string spacing, which is what I do. -

Jennifer, check this out.

Good evening, I have a few bargain priced Peavey items that I'm looking to sell quickly for a friend. 1) Peavey 115TX 1 x 15" speaker cabinet. This is a early nineties US made cab with a couple of notable differences to a typical Peavey cab. It has a Sheffield speaker rated at 400W peak rather than the more typical Black Widow. Second, the cab is rated at 8Ohms rather than the more typical 4 Ohms. I used to own this cab and paired it with a Peavey 410TX and ran it with a Trace Elliot AH250SMX. 'Twas very nice indeed. I'd like £30 for it. No offers. https://picasaweb.google.com/lh/photo/M8LXp...feat=directlink SOLD 2) Peavey 8.5C power amp. Again, this is US made and probably dates from the early nineties again. Rating is 425W per chan nel at 4Ohms and 550Watts per channel at 2 Ohms. Yes, as with most of the older Peavey gear, you can run it at 2Ohms. Wouldn't recommend it for prolonged periods with any make of equipment though. The amp can be run stereo or bridged. If you want to run it bridged, you need to use banana plugs or bare wire to join the speaker posts. Again, I'd like £30. No offers. SOLD https://picasaweb.google.com/lh/photo/KL7Og...feat=directlink SOLD 3) Gator 4U rack case. The latches are a little loose and there's no key, but the case is in good nick. £10.SOLD 4) JHS 4U rack bag. OK condition. £5 If anyone wants to take the whole lot off my hands, you can have it all for £60.
Weird question I know, but this is something that has been causing minor trouble to my brain for a while. I have 3 basses and my favourite by far is my Warwick $$. But I like it too much to gig with it, which is silly as it's the best looking, playing, sounding... Well, you name it. So I bought a kramer for £90 from a pawn shop just to use as a beater for gigs. But it's not the same The Warwick is insured of course, as is all my gear, but I can't stand the thought of it being stolen, broken, molested by some teenager from another band etc. It's the only material possession of mine that I just couldn't be without. Has anyone else every felt too protective of their favourite gear to gig with it, or am I just being paranoid?
You need to get a hammer and put a couple of nice dents in your bass. You'll be heartbroken for a couple of days, but then you'll forget about the damage and get on with the job of playing it. My main bass is my pride and joy, but it's been dropped, knocked over by clumsy ar*eholes and dragged across several continents in a gig bag.
Creed are the second worst band in the in the behind Alter Bridge who have the honour of sucking and blowing.
-1. Myles Kennedy is cool.
You shouldn't inflict playing Creed on any instrument.
+1. Wise words indeed. I don't know what it was about Woodstock '99, but every performance I've seen has been shocking and the crowd look like they were expecting to be on MTV Spring Break. No wonder they rioted.
Hi guys, if you don't mind to spare a couple of minutes, we'd appreciate your opinions about songs. There's a four songs on sondcloud http://soundcloud.com/hell_and_taid or reverbnation http://www.reverbnation.com/hellthetaid Regards Kris
Hi, How did you do record the material? The different instruments just don't seem to gel very well, with the guitars and kit overpowering the rest of the band. Also, your drummer needs to use more dynamics, especially on the ride and hats. 'Is that you' has a nice opening guitar line and vocal line and you should exploit it more. I'd also try getting one of the male ban d members to join in the vocals on that song - it needs a deeper voice backing up the lead singer. Hope these are of some help.

Practising scales and modes will help your knowledge of the fingerboard and help teach you the sound of the scales and modes and interval training. Practising arpeggios, as Doddy reccomends, will help you develop more musical basslines, solos and fills. I would also reccomend singing the scales and modes as you play them.
i do believe that this will cause alot of strain in the arm leading to ending the song in pain
This is how I play with a pick and I never have any pain. Just moving from the wrist is a sure fire way to get rsi.
-
You to play this a pick to nail the speed, sound and feel of the original. These tips will help you get the part right. Start out playing the part much more slowly than on the recording and really focus on the quality of each note. This song needs to be executed cleanly to sound good. Play near the bridge The movement should come from your elbow and forearm rather than wrist or fingers. Alternate pick and concentrate hard on making sure the pick hits the strings parallel and that you get equal attack on the downstroke and upstroke. The heavy part from 3:40 should be all downstrokes.
-
Totally in agreement. If a producer wanted bass lacking in dynamics and 'feel' they'd use a sequenced bass part.
-
I eradicate 1kHz by any means available - either from the desk, from the graphic EQ on an amp head, if borrowing, or via a bass EQ pedal - for it is an evil frequency designed to make your bass sound horrible and clangy. Something I learned from an interview with John Entwistle.

Fender American Deluxe Precision Bass ash 5-string SOLD
bassbloke replied to XB26354's topic in Basses For Sale
I recently bought this on Basschat but the combination of a bike service and pending new bike forces sale. Made in 2000, natural with maple board, tort guard and 5 tuners online headstock. P and twin jazz pickups, Aguilar OBP3 circuit. I've changed the original string tree for a pair of Hipshot custom ones (like the later US Deluxes). Strung with brand new D'Addario Pro Steels 50-135. Original Fender hard case. Has a few dings on body and neck but not on the front and nothing that affects playability. £650 firm. I'm in New Malden in Surrey, collection only please. Pics to come
You've moved just up the road from me. Are you still doing lessons? -
Horses for courses. I've had my mate's Stingray ebony-boarded fretless 5 on loan for ages and I just don't like it. The pickup's in the wrong place, it's overly aggressive sounding and the preamp is all or nothing. Nice B though.

Dilemma! Would like opinions... with poll :)
bassbloke replied to Evil Undead's topic in General Discussion
Keep the bass and the amp and hunt around for a good deal on a stair trolley. -
I'm not surprised he was fiddling with his bass - it was sooooo out of tune!!!
-
I couldn't do without mine because I can't guarantee either the availability or quality of a rig at reherasals or gigs. I did however pare my rig down to the essentials of a head and a cab.
-
I'd opt for a second hand Korg Pandora. The PX4D is a great piece of kit, with metrnome/rhythm trainer, phrase sampler, loads of effects and it works equally well on guitar or bass, for those multi-talented individuals amongst us.

Don't expect any attention from members of the opposite sex. The only audience member to have any interest in you will be the sad old fart that wants to discuss bass gear.

Soundguys That Want To Di My Guitar But Not My Amp
