Not sure what you'd buy now as an investment but I wish I'd kept my old Westone Thunder 1A. They seem to be going for about what I payed for mine back in '83 or '84.

Thinking about the Atlantic Crossing thread. My first proper gig was Rod Stewart at Belle Vue stadium Manchester around 1976. I was only just getting in to music then and certainly hadn't entertained being a bass player (some say I'm still not but that's another story ). Looking at the list of top musicians on the Atlantic Crossing album does it bear any relation to who was in his touring band at that time? Did I get to see Lee Sklar, Duck Dunn or whoever and being a spotty 15yr old only interested in coping an eyeful of Britt Ekland (yes she was there) not realise I was in the presence of a bass playing genius? BTW support to Rod that night was Liverpool Express. IIRC bass player broke an E string and played the whole support slot on a 3 string bass So in your formative years were you at a gig featuring a bass legend but you didn't realise it?
-
I don't suppose Rod had much influence on who played on the record but yes they are top guys.

If your guitarist had approached you saying "I'm dj-ing at a party, can we do an hour spot for mates rates?" Would you have thought differently? Also your guitarist knew the arrangement and said nowt? Does you band gig regularly? Are you missing out on a full fee gig to do this? Is the rest of your band going to be sat twiddling thumbs in front of Casualty when you could be "practicing" for little more than petrol money? Point is you're entitled to rant but it's not a black/white situation. Talk to your DJ guitarist and the party organiser and come to a compromise :-)

What are you listening to right now?

Yesterday it was Francis Dunnery's Man. Very mellow Today it's been King Crimson live at the Marquee 1971 and Nomeansno's Wrong -
Working on Aerosmith's Last Child, amongst others, at the moment.

My first 'covers' gig tomorrow...

Nice one. I'm looking forward to the day my fledgling covers bind finally leaves the nest (this year hopefully). -
Why?
I wondered why too. Would the hanging put an unacceptable strain on the neck join over time? That's all I can think of.

Looking cool with that . I've got a motely collection of stuff hanging on the wall mainly because there's no room on the floor
Facking great album! Thanks man
Just leafing through the latest BGM, which was waiting for me when I got home. Great to see an interview with Barry Devlin of Horslips. Fantastic band and I managed to get to see them a few times back in the day. Marvellous that they have resurrected and I'm hoping to get to see them again asap.
They were/will soon be at Ronnie Scott's - anyone go/going?
I wish. There's life outside of the smoke y'know
-
I could listen too and watch that for ever. One of the best. Can't believe I ever attempted to play it

Gibson basses, have they always been a bit "different"?
It's a regular banjo,she's just tiny.
That's perspective for you -
silddx I just think there's loads of space and cool rhythmn work between Lee Pomeroy and Bob Dalton much like Dick Nolan used to do. Reminds me a lot of Once Around the World. Love Frank Dunnery and John Mitchell copes with his parts really well. But back on topic: spongebob It'll be a great gig you won't be disappointed.

I hadn't seen the updates from the last couple of days but I was listening CA on the way home from work. Yes it's brilliant compared to their last few offerings but it's not grabbing me in the way Map of the Past does. MOTP is my favourite album of this year so far.

pst62 No not heard that one before - great stuff
I didn't think Be Bop Deluxe were part of the Pub Rock scene. Dr. Feelgood, Roger C Reale & Rue Morgue, Eddie and The Hot Rods, The Pirates yeah, but certainly not Bill and the boys!
Well in their formative years they played many gigs at 'The Duke' in North Ferriby but I would agree not your typical pub rock band Good to see BBD get a mention on here. I am a big fan of Bill Nelson in general and BBD in particular. Love the bass work of the late, great Charlie Tumahai. At the forthcoming Bill Nelson fan convention along with a Bill Nelson solo set there will be a live performance from Bill and his Gentlemen Rocketeers playing many BBD and Red Noise numbers along with an improv set from Orchestra Futura with the truly brilliant Dave Sturt on bass.http://www.nelsonica.com/. The event is sold out but if you're in York on 29th September and you loiter around the bar in the Park Inn Hotel you will hear some awesome guitar playing.

20/20 by Saga. First album back with Michael Sadler - Great stuff. Only wish they'd gig in the UK. -
Hi Joel and welcome. Going a little off kilter here but how about an article on hearing protection, dedicated ear plugs etc... As well as promoting bass playing and extolling the virtues of players and kit, a little social responsibility on how to protect our hearing would be interesting - once it's gone it's gone man Also perhaps the mag could acknowledge Bass Chat for all the great ideas for future issues

landlord switched off the mics because of over run

I remember back when I was at Uni ('79) Springsteen played a 3 hour plus concert in Newcastle. I only know this coz I could hear him as I walked past on my way to a local rock night elsewhere and he was still playing when I staggered back to my Halls at the end of the night. So he's got track record for overrunning -
I got two posters, the other one, also double sided, has a huuuge list of names on one side, and the iconic CA band shot on the other
That's the one. You had to pre-order the fan pack before a certain date to get on it. I do really like Clockwork Angels and having listened to it again in different environments since my last post I'm getting more used to the guitar sound. I do think Geddy Lee's bass sound is a killer - lots of grunt and growl
-
Haha. Me too sort of, and I've heard it every day since I got it. I'm becoming tired of certain songs and I find the vocal melodies dull for the most part. Although there are some magic moments on the album, and the vocal at the start of the title track really is lovely. I still love Alex's The Garden solo
Every day since you got it? There's the problem - your Rush basket is full. Take a few days or even a week off to let your system Flush the Rush and then come back to it. . I've been alternating Clockwork Angels with Map of the Past (interspersed with a bit of SAGA). The clarity of all the instruments in Map is amazing and the space for the songs to unfold is stunning. A lot of Clockwork Angels does seem to be full of white noise with not a lot of definition to Lifeson's guitar parts. Some killer bass riffs tho' and I can't wait for the tour (only 11 months to go ).
Wow really? I actually think it was one of their best (if not THE best) DVDs!
Yeah think I might be the only one but I just couldn't get in to it at all
Y'all know that there are some great young bands playing near you for a lot less money, right?
I go and see them too Bought the Score CD. Listened once and took it back. Got my money back. I'm a big DT fan but that was sh*te !
