1. Lots of listens, Tab (I often use this one http://www.bigbasstabs.com) and lately been picking up stuff on you tube. I'd love to be able to "read the dots" but I'm too old to learn that trick. oh and The White Pages too
2. Just played The Junction in Rainford. Only our second paying gig and not many people (it being the first weekend after Christmas and New Year so everyone's skint). However, we really enjoyed it and we played quite well. A few bloopers but not too bad. I actually thought we played well because we were fairly quiet on stage and let the PA do the work. Great fun and hopefully we'll be back at the beer festival in May. Thanks to Paul (the owner/manager) for having us on. Here's to the next gig on Wednesday.
3. I have the Bass White Pages. Very thick, loads of bass tabs. It's very good. http://www.amazon.co.uk/White-Pages-Leonard-Publishing-Corporation/dp/0634033263
4. My SiL and I did the rowboat dance to Oops Upside Your Head. My f'ing legs and lower back were killing me
5.
Did you play the songs correctly? If you did then it's doesn't matter if you fret with your face! Playing the songs correct is more important than technique
This in spades. At least I hope so when I'm playing Tush .
6. For me the Porsche 911 equivalent would be the Yamaha BB Series. The Porsche is the sports car you can tear up the track or use for the daily commute. For me the BB series is in the same mould. I have a BB1100S = 993 model, the last of the air cooled 911s.
7. He's been there, done that, bought the t-shirt and shrunk it in the wash. He don't need to do it again
8. Saw Nick Beggs with Steve Hackett a couple of times. Yeah not sure about the leather kilt but a great bass player.
9. Actually, come to think of it, my 5 string is played slightly lower than my 4 string. I hadn't really noticed it because I hadn't played the 4 string for a few years.
10. if the strap's low and you're over a "certain age" you won't be able to reach the strings over your ale gut
11. This reminds me that it's been too long since I've seen you guys. Must get to St. Helens gig in February (or Chester, or Crewe or Manchester).
12.
A Band I was in years ago did Steve vais for the love if God, absolutely bombed, needless to say we only did it the once
A good point and why I'm a bit hesitant about ITQE. I think whether we put it in will depend on the audience and how we feel the gig is going.
13. We're doing The Chain in our next set and we've learnt In That Quiet Earth. This is tricky without keys but with the addition of flute it sounds pretty good to me
14. How was Ozzy's performance?
15. Plus ca change, Dingus, plus ca change.
16.
Do 'real bands' play covers?
Hmmm, good question (stroking chin in a thoughtful manner smiley). Zep VH Dream Theater Rush The 4 cheeky scousers from the 1960s Shall I go on?
17. Taking the boy to the Manchester gig next week. Way back in the arena so better take my opera glasses
18. Perhaps I should also qualify that I have no connection to McFly (other than the manager of my local is the drummer's dad - tenuous claim to fame thread?) and I'm not particularly keen on their songs either.
19. I went to a Manchester clinic can't remember when though (possibly '91). Saw a Billy Sheehan bass clinic around then too . The guy was/is amazing. I was dumbstruck; berating himself for dropping a bum note in a paganini piece, ha, ha. But a really great guy and very patient with the dumb questions from the wannabes.
20. I'm not sure what you mean by a "real band"? Ok I'll give you 1D but McFly are a boy band are they not and they play their instruments, which seems to be your definition of a real band.
21. I've got Rising Force's Odyssey album. I enjoy listening to it when I play, which ain't often. Is he a genius? I'm not sure.
22. Will do David.
23. Can't believe I haven't seen you guys yet. Unfortunately 31st Jan at the Cavern is not possible but will certainly take in a gig as soon as possible.
