In the shed.
Need to buy a shed then

I have taken over the dining room. Have often thought of converting the garage but a) can't afford to and where would I put all my man stuff that is currently "stored" in the garage?

Anybody at the Wakefield gig a couple of weeks ago? Great stuff. Bill's recorded output is phenomenal and shows no signs of letting up. Unfortunately his live appearances are getting rarer. The past few Nelsonica conventions have seen up to three performances in the day; solo set, improv set and a "rock band" set playing old BBD, Red Noise and early solo stuff. Improv (titled Orchestra Futura) and Rock Band sets have featured Dave Sturt on bass.

Suppose you work Mon - Fri. You could take a train from Wigan on Saturday morning to Cardiff and back the same day with 1 change of train for £80 (Swansea = £87, Stirling £84). What's the cost of a courier and the risk of it being damaged in transit? Plus you get a nice day out and you get to see, touch and possibly play the bass before you hand over the readies. If you decide after all you don't want it then ok you've spent £80 but haven't got the hassle of packaging up and sending back a bass you don't want, and trying to get your money back. Let the train take the strain.

I blame Glenn Hughes. JB is/was awesome. Saw him at Birkenhead's Pacific Road a few years ago when he was on the upward curve, then he got hooked up with Glenn and BCC and it started to go a bit mammaries up. Went to his Liverpool (half) arena solo gig, which was ok but a sh*t mix and a bit "I'm Charlie Big Potatoes". I had tickets to a Blackpool gig which was cancelled due to JB being ill. Since then I'm pretty cold on the guy. Great guitar player and BCC at the Victoria Park Festival in 2011 was great (especially their version of Burn) but I can take or leave him now. Perhaps I'm just getting old

Get it set up and tell him you'll bring it back in a week for him to check?

I would like to talk to you about a really easy way for you to earn some quick money That's the giveaway for me - too easy, too good to be true.

I'll admit I've only heard a couple of tracks on Planet Rock but I'm not knocked out by the latest Dream Theater offering. It's released today and normally I'd be first in the queue but I'm just not that bovvered.

I used the tuner on my Korg Pandora but now I have a TC BH250 with a built in tuner. Footswitch mutes the amp for tuning. Great piece of kit. Mind you the fat end of £300 is a lot to pay for a guitar tuner
Is she sleek, sexy, with a nicely rounded bottom and a delicious growl ?
Why do you think I want that Ritter ?
This, but with frets: Played through one of these: But by spring of next year I may be Gas free - on both fronts
Never fancied a Ritter but that is something else . Can I swap the missus for one

My Yamaha BB405 is around 8lb 6oz, BB1100S is around 8lb 11oz

Stagecraft isn't just about cavorting around like a whirling dervish, it's also about (in no particular order) knowing when you can jump around and when you have to stay still or be in a certain position, what effects are selected at any one time, is you gear set up correctly, have you got contingencies in place in the event of a problem (spare strings, spare bass, spare backline?). Have you got tools with you, extension cables, a towel etc.... I could go on but I'm sure you get the picture

Any 5 string Dingwall. Totally horn-inducing
but how does a guitarist (especially) cope? Never had much call to di or anything before, do they just run their effects into a di then into the board? Both my guitarists have valve heads so I need a convicing approach to give them what they need in terms of drive etc.
I'm not a tech head when it comes to this sort of stuff (I just plug in where I'm pointed) but this is what the guitarist and keys do (as well as bass and vox). All is monitored through a pair of Rokit 8s. I'd need to ask gtr and keys for more technical stuff if you want more details. We do make a bit of noise but there haven't been to many neighbour complaints yet. With work committments rehearsals are usually 2-3 hours in the evenings. For the covers band 4hrs + PA = £16 bargain.

What tunes have you been learning today?
paulconnolly replied to gary mac's topic in General Discussion
As posted elsewhere; Barracuda - pretty straightforward but the bar of 5/4 in the verses threw the guitarist (is it in the guitar hero version? I really must teach him to count ) In That Quiet Earth, that's a bit more challenging especially the rhythm of the chunky bit at the end. -
Originals band rehearse in the keyboard player's conservatory; covers band rehearses in a dedicated rehearsal space (Vulcan St.)

Hard Rock Covers Band set suggestions...
paulconnolly replied to redbandit599's topic in General Discussion
OK here's what we've been up to (in no particular order): Turn it on again Superstition (a la Pat Travers) Tush Maid In Heaven Rock Candy Day Tripper (Whitesnake version) In The Mood Breakfast In America Needle And The Damage Done Last Child Fairies Wear Boots Cheap Sunglasses Come Together Sunshine Of Your Love Good Lovin' Gone Bad Shout 2000 Houses Of The Holy Sweet Dream Pinball Wizard Happiest Days Of Our Lives/Another Brick In The Wall Hot Blooded Spirits In The Material World Message In A Bottle Shot Down In Flames Tie Your Mother Down Next gig will include Barracuda and In That Quiet Earth (felt like a prog instrumental interlude for the start of the second set ) and maybe a couple more. -
Whole Lotta Love was the first one I played all the way through.
-
I've got a Trantec wireless system somewhere in the loft. Never had a problem with it. Picked up the local taxi firm once or twice but at least I always had a lift home from the gig
-
Thanks again everyone. Much appreciate the advice. If I do decide to buy it I'll let you know how much I pay for it.
I wouldn't worry about the paint work, what would you expect from an '80 bass that's been played? I'd be looking at things like the neck and any cracks forming or getting bigger at joins. Plus how is the bridge, is it lifting at the back from the body? And anyway, you are in the best position to know all this. Bass Gear in Twyford have a 4001 up for £1500 (and £1600 on eBay). It's boring old Maple glow, but the neck is superb and it sounds and plays lovely. You would get a warranty and the back up from a respected dealer, plus if you walked in with the readies you might get it for a bit less. But, you pays your extra for the after sales piece of mind. There are 4003's at the £1500 to £2000 mark on eBay that have been sitting for months. Anyone who buys off these shysters deserves to be fleeced. Plus no warranty or back up. Last month I was offered a brand spanker 4003 from Wunjo for £1500, and who knows, I could've haggled. I think a S/H 4003 Fire glow has just gone for £975, but buyer beware and all that. So here you are with a vintage Ric that you are more than familiar with, that you have had rent free for 3 years. This is what I reckon.. I think £1200 is a very good price. Good for you and good for him. If you were being exceptionally kind you may offer £1300 to include the rent. Any less than this and you will maybe feel you've put one over on your mate. I mean, I might offer him £1100, but I don't know the guy and it doesn't matter if I fall out with him. If your mate thinks £1200 is too low tell him to bear in mind that if it snaps in half the day after you've bought it, then he has the money and you have the firewood. But buy the Ric.
Brilliant . Cheers. Re: cracks and bridge. I can't see any issues with these areas TBH. I really appreciate all the comments on the thread. I'm aware that I've had a really good deal over the past three years and I'm grateful for that (puts a whole new meaning on try before you buy !-) ). Gonna see if I can raise the necessary spondulics
