I have a 79 4001, and I would think 1200 is about the rate. And just to be clear, Mine is not for sale
Pristine? Unmarked? Or "road worn"? Trying to post a picture of the worn paintwork Hope it works :-) You can also see the worn paintwork near the top rear if you look hard enough.

Thanks for the thoughts peeps.
TC915. Sorry for my 'contribution' , but it was my first bass and therefore had rather a lot of emotional attachment.
Fair do's. This has a different number and I won't quote it because a) the bass ain't mine and some other wag will pipe up tat it's the one he/she had nicked etc... . I can understand the emotional attachment and you never know, one day

Hard Rock Covers Band set suggestions...
paulconnolly replied to redbandit599's topic in General Discussion
We have a female lead vocalist but all of our stuff is male lead at the mo' (going to amend that over the next few weeks) so it's a bit difficult to select suitable rock songs although she seems to cope with Zep, Aerosmith and Queen numbers quite well (mind you since it's my daughter I have to say that ). Sorry I realise I'm not helping here with your set list . How about a bit of Budgie (Breadfan)? It would also appeal to the metalheads since Metallica did a cover. -
Hard Rock Covers Band set suggestions...

How hard is hard? I can't gauge that from your OP. You don't mean Rammstein clearly but do you mean Megadeath, Deep Purple, Anthrax, or what? My covers band do a bit of Sabbath and Led Zep and AC/DC but is that hard rock? Need a bit more to go on I think. -
I appreciate the situation re: advertising Rics for sale but this is a bit different so I hope it's allowed (if not the apologies in advance and the mods'll deal with as appropriate). I've had the long term loan of a 1980 4001 in Jetglo (had it for about 3 years now) and I really enjoy playing it. The owner has asked for it back and for the avoidance of doubt I've no problem with that and am grateful for him letting me have it for so long. It was always only intended as a long term loan and he had said that it wasn't for sale he just wanted someone to play it. Anyway he has said he is open to offers but my problem is how to value it? When I asked him what figure he had in mind he thought typical e-bay rates minus a bit for mates rates. I've looked on flea bay and gumtree etc.. and most seem to be up for around £1200 and heading north of this. These basses are all in mint condition looking at the photos. One example on e-bay is £1600 and in similar condition to the one I have but it's advertised as being owned by Puddle Of Mud so I'd say there's a premium for that depending on provenance of course. The bass I have is a bit "road worn" with a few minor dings and scratches, which is to be expected after 30+ years plus there's a quite extensive area on the back where the paint has worn away to the bare wood (it was like that when I picked it up). So what to do? I don't want to pay over the odds and I don't want to haggle with a mate. At the same time I don't want to insult him with a derisory offer. Thoughts peeps? PS no photos but if this is allowed to stay I'll post some.

Mind you seeing Deidre play guitar must have had a subconscious effect on making me pick up the bass.

Mea culpa

Deidre Cartwright!

Think I was playing my Westone when we appeared on Granada Reports in '87 - didn't get an endorsement tho'
-
Westone Thunder 1A, oh yes. Also Yamaha BB1100S - mine's from 1987 so just qualifies.
-
I've given up with the list (you can cut'n'paste if you wish) but can I add Dave Sturt (and I'll want an acknowledgement at the next Nelsonica convention - whenever that is) Keith Mulholland - he's inspired me but don't tell him.
-
Now call me an old softie but if that was me I'd be tempted to call back round with a nice bottle of wine (probably to cover my guilt at getting such a bargain)

Oh Dear, this is why they hate us SO MUCH
It's like finding a corpse in your f***ing greenhouse isn't it.
As opposed to the Greenhouse I use for growing tomatoes and cucumbers I just watched it (the 9mins 50secs went quite quickly ). I quite enjoyed it . I like Billy Sheehan and judging by the reaction of the other musicians so do they (but he has a godawful sound). -
but seriously, i don't understand why bands have to practice at ear splitting volumes. Someone please explain to me why? It's probably why i've never used earplugs as i've never allowed bands i've been in to be ridiculously loud. I've played heavy rock most of my life too
Usually coz the drummers banging fook out of things

My son loves Finntroll and suggested this by Turisas http://www.youtube.com/watch?feature=player_embedded&v=cdkBs0VCSX0

Nice one Si . That'd be my perfect retirement......... skiing by day and playing in a bar at night . There used to be a great band in Chambre Neuf, Chamonix about 10-15 yrs ago. Great apres ski live music.

I'd be happy with £250 for a gig. Admittedly we've only just started gigging but most of the pubs round here only pay £150.
-
First paying gig with the rock covers band tonight. First paying gig for nearly 20 years. Had a great time. Some songs worked better than others. Some songs had bummers in and some didn't. Crowd seemed to like it and got some positive feedback. Looks like they'll have us on again. Had to abandon the Ric though and stick with the Yamaha. Ric just wasn't cutting through.
Hi Listen to band called Big Big Train. I think they continue to make "Genesis"music.
Got a couple of BBT albums. Excellent stuff and yes there is a Genesis feel to them. -
I was a huge It bites fan back in the day...saw them on the "Once around the world tour" and met them afterwards...they were as tight as two coats of paint as a live band. I think it's fair to say that they were hugely influenced by early Genesis. Listen to "the battle of Epping Forest" from "Selling England by the pound"....you will hear the influence straight away.
. Pretty certain they'd often do some old genesis during soundcheck, if memory serves me right.
