interesting. I have a set of Wizard 84's and they're great.

I'm having the same thoughts. Since buying an x32 as our desk, coupled with a big and decent JBL PRX active speaker set (inc 18" active subs), I'm really wondering about ditching the rig for some gigs - I don't think I'll ever get rid of my Aguilar rig, but for most of the weddings etc we do, I can just plug in my sans amp, set a nice sound and go into the desk, which has tons of processing, speaker simulators etc. We each have our own monitor mix via in ears and we each control our own wirelessly off our iphones anyway. I'm just trying to get the guitarists to consider smaller amps - they really don't need the Fender Blues deluxe and the Musicman 212 - 50w and 65w valve combos respectively. They run them at low levels anyway and could easily get an apogee and use their iphone / ipad or get a smallish digi amp - like a line 6 or similar.....

To update where we are now: We got rid of the Adlib / GAE rig and amps and bought a brand new set of the following JBL Active PRX: 2 x JBL PRX615 mid high packs 2 x JBL618 XLF Subs. They're brilliant and plenty big enough for most of the gigs we do. For any big stuff we either hire in a live array or there's a house system. We've also gone for a Behringer x32 mixer - it's phenomenal; esp at the price!!

Just got in from quite a nice friendly wedding reception gig. It was in a posh village hall in Eccleston, nr Chester on the Duke of Westminster's estate. Big old cave though, but was nice that the groom had hired in a big 12kw FoH set up - 2 x 18's per side and 2 x 15 mid highs per side so we just took in the 32 and a pair of mons! Nice easy set up and pack down, lots of dancing and generally a happy bunch so easy. Bit of a blag though as I updated the X32 remote app on my iPad earlier today, but didn't realise I needed to update the firmware on the mixer. Set the desk up behind the speakers at side of stage, then found that the x32 iPad app wouldn't work due to running the old firmware. It meant the poor sound guy was running back and forth all night rather that sitting out front working off the app. Ah well, he earned his money! Unloaded and home by 12.15. Better than the 5am last wk. 2 band members off to NY now, flying at 6am, doing a 2 wk US tour so I've got a bit of time off. Hope everyone else had decent gigs?

They're great. We've got the 'full' X32 and love it. Take an ipad for our FOH guy to mix from and we have the app on our iphones to sort our own IEM mixes. We have saved 'scenes' for various gig typs and locations etc. Easy!! Crazy to think that 10 years ago I was regularly doing sound in a venue with the (large analogue) desk and racks of outboard in a dodgy location and had to constantly run back and forth to check the sound in various locations and rush back to the desk!!

Thinking of buying an upright bass......
bassintheface replied to bassintheface's topic in EUB and Double Bass
Yeah, think I'm pretty much set on a 'trad' 3/4 DB now. The Mrs will be chuffed. 4 bass guitars, a Besson Sovereign EEb Tuba, acoustic 6 string, Aguilar TH500, 2 x DB112's, an Ampeg BA300 and now maybe a double bass in my 'room' at home. Best buy her a new iron or something! Wow, didn't think a set of DB strings were that much, but I guess thinking of the sheer scale....... Cool, will make a point of blagging for a deal on strings etc. Cheers. Any suggestions for amplifying it in the future? -

excellent. Cheers. Will make a note regarding replacement bridges on budget instruments! Thanks! -
So, as the thread title says, I am considering buying an upright. Initially, it'll just be me at home trying to learn properly, then I may start using it with the band. I have lots of questions though!! If I go for a standard, acoustic DB, I'm unsure whether to go full size or 3/4's. Additionally, I'll need to look at amplifying (if and when I use it with the band - it'll be for a swing type set) - clip on mics etc - I have a sans amp to try as a pre amp (not sure it'll work well - anyone tried it?) If I do go down this route, I'll probably look at going to play with one of the local Orchestras too, so I can get up to speed quickly - I also play Tuba and did grade 8 and A Level music on it, so I read etc - I used to play tuba with a few of the local orchestras, so I know a few of the guys. OR I get an EUB - I haven't a clue where to start here - obviously the portability thing is a massive bonus. A friend bought a Stagg one, but had endless issues with it. Are there any others worth looking at for between £1k and £1500? That's my max budget for either DB or EUB. Thanks!

Situation changed so No Longer For Sale - Thankfully!! This is a very tentative 'feeler' as I'm hoping that I don't need to sell this. I 'may' have the need to raise some funds, so am considering parting with this dream bass. It is an absolutely immaculate '73 / 74 Fender Jazz. I have owned it since March last year and it's amazing. RW board, block, 'burst, black scratchplate. Cool as you like. It's currently fitted with a pair of Wizard '84 pickups and a new loaded control plate (CTS pots and switchcraft jack). The original pickups are included of course, as is the control plate, which both work fine. Everything on it tallies up with itself. Feel free to question me! I'd be looking for a sale only so no trades thanks. £2500, inc a hefty flightcase. I'm really unsure about parting with this and hoping I don't have to, but if there's any interest, let me know. It's in Wrexham. Pics here - http://s1341.photobu...4?sort=3&page=1

I guess the old saying - "the right hand is more important than the left hand" would be useful here....if you're right handed.

another +1 for Mark here. Bought his JV P bass in a really pleasant and easy transaction. He held onto it for a day whilst I got the funds together and met my folks at the M40 services. Thanks again Mark!

I am selling my Allen & Heath PA28 mixer due to the purchase of an X32. See pics at bottom of thread. Now £400.00. Shipping extra, though due to its size I'd say you'd want to collect!! This is the info available online regarding it: The Allen & Heath PA28 Mixer gives you all the tools you need to run a stereo PA system in a straightforward plug-and-play format. High-quality construction features on the PA28 Mixer include the same individual vertical circuit boards, nutted pots, and solid copper bus connections as the acclaimed ML series consoles. 24 mono channels with mic (XLR) and line (TRS) inputs (line input overrides the XLR input), individual +48V phantom power switches, and new padless 2-stage preamp with smooth gain law provide pristine sound quality. Line input goes to second stage for better matching and performance. Switched 100Hz high-pass filter, insert point, 4-band EQ, 4 aux mixes, mute with LED, PFL button with LED (functions as peak indicator), plus 100mm fader on every channel. Shelving LF (60Hz), and HF (12kHz) with fixed LM (250Hz), and swept HM (300Hz - 6kHz). The fixed 250Hz control on the Allen & Heath PA28 has been carefully selected to provide reduction of muddy sounds and enhance warmth. 4 stereo channels with 2 unbalanced stereo inputs on each--one RCA and one TRS jack. Independent gain controls provide source mixing in the channel strip. The top inputs (RCA) can be switched direct to L&R instead of the channel strip providing extra returns. Each stereo channel features 2-band shelving EQ, 4 aux mixes, stereo balance, mute with LED, PFL with LED, and 100mm fader as mono channels. Auxiliary sends from all channels include 2 pre-fade for foldback mixes - these have 100mm fader masters, mute switch with LED, AFL with LED, and TRS outputs (which can be routed internally to output section). One post-fade aux mix for effects which feeds the internal effects and has a TRS jack output for external effects. One post-fade aux mix to a TRS jack output is provided for external effects or special feeds. Main stereo mix output has 100mm fader control and mute with LED plus TRS jack outputs, mono sum output with level control and switch for subwoofer mode to TRS jack. Record output (RCA) analog and SPDIF switchable pre/post fader, plus twin 12-segment LED bar meters that show program (or PFL/AFL). Insert points on TRS jack for external processing as well as output EQ and routing to internal amplifiers/external systems are provided. A 4-band semi-parametric EQ enhances the output section. This affects the TRS slave outputs and the internal constant power amplifiers, offering more control than graphic equalizers for precise management of speakers, especially foldback/monitors. Source selector allows output EQ section to be used on left/ right, L&R sum/foldback 1, or foldback1/foldback 2. 16-program digital effects processor provides reverbs, delays, chorus, and others, including combinations. This FX module takes its feed from the post-fade FX aux on the mono and stereo channels. The output of the FX module is controlled by a 100mm fader with mute and PFL and is routed to the stereo mix and FB1&2 with post fade level controls. 2 TRS inputs with level control provide a way of combining external effects with the internal unit. The internal effects can be switched off to use external effects only if preferred. A footswitch TRS jack is provided to mute the effects channel. Editing of effects can be done via MIDI using the software editor available free from the resource CD or the Allen & Heath website. Features

24 mono channels with mic (XLR) and line (TRS) inputs
Individual +48V phantom power switches
Switched 100Hz high-pass filter
Insert point
4-band EQ
4 aux mixes
Peak indicator LED
60Hz low and 12kHz high shelving
Swept high/middle
250Hz low/middle
4 stereo channels with 2 unbalanced stereo inputs on each
4 AUX sends from each channel with faders
Multiple stereo and mono mix outs
Output EQ
Pro-level digital FX
It comes with a full, proper job custom flightcase. Hi, My Ampeg BA300 115 has been in for repair as it was sounding a bit dodgy. The engineer (someone I know personally, who has just become an 'official' Aguilar UK service / repair guy so I trust him) has just let me know that the driver is knackered. The amp section is fine. It's a 15" Chinese made Eminence. There's no model number or other identifying mark on it from what we can see. Does anyone have any recommendations / suggestions for an upgraded / better quality driver for it? I've looked on the Eminence site and there's loads of options just there. It be handy to have some 'real life' experience recommendations. It's not my main rig - I use it for rehearsals infrequently and as my spare rig. Thanks. BITF

Bummer to hear he's closed down! I bought a pair of 84's for my Jazz in March and they are awesome. I'm not going to let them out of my sight now!!
