1. don't want to sound too 'gloaty' but I'm playing Wembley stadium on sat! Yes, playing my bass, in a band, inside, on a stage...........and getting paid too!! That's Murrayfield (twice), Old Trafford (twice), The Millennium Stadium, Elland Rd (also playing there on 19th Nov). It's a bit Spinal Tap, but I love playing stadiums!! It's the Rugby League Gillette 4 Nations - this sat is the 'big' double header: Wales v NZ at 1pm, then Eng v Aus at 3ish. We're there as usual as the RFL house band..........there's also some attractive cheerleaders...... ; ) anyone going??
2. I've played at Alexanders a few times. It's ok, quite nice. No stage. It's been a few years but don't remember any real 'issues'. Bit of a rubbish response really!!
3. Traded. Gone now. Thanks all.
4. alright mate.........
5.
I bet it bloody does. That's going to end up in a few signatures I reckon.
School jokes are the best!! "I've dented my bell" "if I point my bell...." "I've a dirty bell..." Et al....
6.
Can`t you use a mute for the Brass stuff?
Nope, well, not a 'standard' mute anyway - a mute colours the sound - it doesn't really reduce the volume (it does slightly) - there are many different types for different sounds / textures etc You can by specific practise mutes but even these aren't 'perfect' - not bad though. Ie - trumpet or cornets can have many including straight mutes, cup mutes, harmon mutes and so on for different effects. There is a system by Yamaha called "silent brass" - you insert a sort of mute into your instrument - it hardly lets any sound out to be fair, it has a pickup / transducer inside - this has a wire which is attached to a little amp type box with a vol control and some pre set 'rooms' - ie, church, concert hall, small room etc. There is a line out and a headphone out. To be fair, they're pretty good but the trouble with putting anything inside your bell is that it makes you play sharp - you're then compensating with your lip or tuning slide. Not ideal at all for 'standard open practise', but better than nowt I guess. As a tuba player, the cost of a Yamaha silent brass system was pretty prohibitive - plus, it's not actually been available for bigger instruments until recently. I started playing tuba at 12 - luckily we had a detached house and I could bugger off to a room away from everyone else. Other than home practise it was practise at school, college, Uni etc to keep disturbances to a minimum. Now I just keep my amp on low at home in another room. The wife is cool with it. In terms of band rehearsals, we're dead lucky in that our singer's folks' converted their double garage into a fully soundproofed rehearsal & recording studio for their 2 sons. We still have use of it 13 years on! It's 2 floors, glazed vocal booth, storage, wall xlr patch panels etc and it's FOC! Granted, we're DEAD lucky!
7. My mate has kindly offered to put this in his music shop to sell for me. It will be at County Music supplies in Shrewsbury, Shrophire from next wk. It makes it easier for people to see & try it. If anyone would like to try it before it goes there, it will be in Wrexham, at my home until Mon. Cheers all!

11. from one newbie to another...........hello! *just noticed I'm "no longer a newbie...."*
12. you can see where Rose Tattoo got their influences!
13. A big + 1 for the 'get in touch with the other bands' re using gear - I assume that the eng will most definitely want you to share the basic kit if at all possible (minus snare, cymbs, pedal, extra stands etc) and possibly bass rig at least, so the right thing to do is get in touch ahead of the gig to sort / ask. Enjoy yourself, or at least look like you are...........nothing worse that a morose band on stage!! Don't mumble down the mic when speaking in between songs.........project and seem confident. Gives you good presence on stage! Take your time, have a pint of water with NO ice in it to sip between songs (or beer if that's your thing..........not mine when I'm playing though....personal preference). Tune - ideally have one in your loop / chain so you can silently tune between songs. Take a spare lead or 2. Get what you NEED in your mons.....be nice!! Easy.........good luck. Enjoy.
14. Hi all, I Play in the Rugby League's in stadium house band and we do all the major in stadium ents. This Nov Wales are playing Australia in the 4 Nations. We've been asked to propose some songs / bands with links to both countries. Can I get some suggestions of well known / popular songs etc?! It's a 4 piece band: 2 x guitar, drums, bass, 3 part harms and 1 guitarist also plays keys. I've already got AC/DC, INXS, Stereophonics, Manics ( Australia is the ideal song from them), Feeder, Super Furrys and Bee Gees etc I'm purposely ignoring Rolf, Waltzing Matilda etc! Any other decent suggestions? Cheers!
15. Tidy! A few North Walians!! Thanks all!
16. Ah, cool. We're just doing a 30 min set in the afternoon outdoors in the Eagles Meadow shopping centre. Got gigs at night so won't be able to watch sadly........ We're all mates of Mark Reynolds and he's putting the festival on so it's a bit of a favour to him. Looking forward to it. Cheers.
17. Hi all, to be honest, I signed up on here in April, then forgot my login info. I kind of 'forgot' about it till I was 're-introduced' by Steve Amadeo! I actually thought I had introduced myself - clearly not! Apologies! I've already posted on here.... I'm Jamie - 30, from Wxm, N Wales. I've been playing since school. I've done the 'originals band' thing - singles, album, tour, Radio sessions, festivals, vids etc etc I now play in the Rugby Super league's house band - The Big Beat. Corporate function band. I also manage a great band www.cameramusic.co.uk I've got a 2001 EB MM stingray 3 band in red, RW board A 2004 '75 RI CIJ Fender Jazz in natural, maple board, perloid markers etc 2009 Gibson SG Bass in worn ebony - short scale, which is currently for sale in the 'for sale' section. I use an Ampeg SVT 3 Pro head & Warwick 4x10 with a Sans Amp. Hoping to pick up all sorts of useful tips, tricks and knowledge! Catch you around...... Jamie Looking for a nice original 70's Jazz!!!
18. I've got to say - Awesome stuff. Epic isn't word I use too often, but that certainly is. Sometimes we're all probably guilty of thinking that there are "no good new bands" about anymore, or no decent new music - mainly due to the cack we're spoon fed by the media (or majority of). Listening to that has almost reinforced to me that there is great new music about - you just need to look!! It's pretty motivational too when you hear something great and also interesting! Keep the faith! That particularly 'struck a chord' with me as I'm also a 'brass bander' - well used to be..... my instrument is in it's case upstairs!! Think I might dust it off and get the valves going again. The Tuba is my main instrument really - did it in college and although I don't play at the moment - due to being too busy with 4 strings, I've still got a massive soft spot for the music & brass band movement. I've played for all sorts of brass bands (an orchestras etc) since I was about 14, it's taken me to the Albert Hall and nearly every other concert hall in the UK, military tattoos abroad, the US & Canada - believe me - it's not all Floral Dance and the William Tell Overture...... Without boring you all too much and veering off topic, brass bands are graded from Championship to 4th section. Think football - Championship section brass band = Premier league football team (minus the money). You're talking Black Dyke, Grimethorpe, Fodens, Fairey, Cory, Tredegar, Leyland and many many more. The Leyland Band are rightly so one of the best around and it's great to hear what you've done together. There's a few familiar faces on the video!! I will be keeping an eye out for you and would like try and catch you somewhere!! All the best!
19. Ideally I'd have had John Bonham on the tubs, but as that isn't possible I'd go for: Drums - Steve Jordan - John Mayer Trio Vocals - Paul Rodgers - from the original Free lineup - where he was, in my opinion at his best Me on 4 string duties Keys / vocals - Dr John Guitars - Audley Freed I would give a nut to be in that band.........
20. It sounds great, especially with a bit of drive off the sans amp. It growls!
21. For sale is my Gibson SG bass in Worn Ebony (matt black) It's a 2009 model, I bought it new in March 2010. It's a short scale model complete with shaped Gibson hardcase. Still got original tags etc. Genuine bass and genuine reason for sale - I just don't use it - I cant get away from using my Stingray and 75 RI Jazz and am looking for an early '70's Jazz. It's literally been used a handful of times though there is a mark above the bridge pickup where my thumb had rubbed some paint off. Pics aren't great as I took them with my iphone. £580.00 pm for more info. I will endeavor to take some better photos as soon as I can borrow a proper camera! Forgot to add - based in Wrexham North Wales. Thanks, Jamie.
