Chimp fingers aren't too bad when you consider the other chimp parts you could have ended up with!
He he Perhaps an injection of monkey glands might help me speed up a bit!

For the past few weeks I've been feeling as though I'm suffering from Chimp Finger Syndrome. Everything I played sounded horrible. Felt that practising was just preventing me from actually getting any worse, rather than helping me improve. Anyway - tutor's response last week was to give make me do something even harder! He got me playing 'Black Dog' by Led Zep. I love it so much I just can't stop playing it now. OK, so I'm doing it at about half the speed and keep missing out the hammer ons (or should that be 'hammers on'? ). But it amazed me to hear something coming out of the amp that bore a faint resemblance to Black Dog, and to realise that I was doing it!! I'm so pleased with myself I just wanted to share with you all.

Forty three? You're just a spring chicken! I'm a little bit older (not saying how much!) and I've only been learning since February. Absolutely loving it. Hope you can find a good tutor. I know without my tutor I would never have stuck at it. silddx said: 'You will have plateaux, and depressing times when you feel you are making no progress. But believe me, you can try to play something, and struggle for three weeks, then like a lightning bolt you can find you can play it with ease, like a switch. The brain is a funny thing.' I have found this to be so true! Haev a great time learning!
Herself is not remotely interested, but is remarkably supportive in matters of time and expense. And her ability to quietly absorb information is astonishing. I'd been trying out an amp and suffering the 'assistance' of a rather snooty shop-boy intent on flogging everything else in the shop. On her arrival in-store, the lad smirks "Oh, look out, here comes the little woman". From across the shop I could see her hackles rise . "Ah," says she "Whats that guitar you're playing?" "Tom Anderson" "Oh. Rich man's knock-off Tele. Chambered body?" (she was correct) She turned to the assistant and with an imperious flutter of her hand said "Be a good chap and go and get him a proper one with Fender on the headstock." People, I tell you my heart swelled with pride.
Brilliant!

Thumb joint replacement - Pics of the Gig, not the OP!
seashell replied to thebrig's topic in General Discussion
It would seem that some folks were expecting graphic pics of the op, rather than the gig, so I have edited the title.
He he - well at least it got them interested! -
B (Steve Harris) just illustrates how ridiculous long hair looks on the older gentleman.
I rather like long hair on the older gentleman. Let your freak flag fly, that's what I say

Steve Harris because I've got long hair. Although not as long as his, admittedly.

Does anyone remember the Radio Floss road shows?
seashell replied to Bassmalloy's topic in Introductions
Hiya and welcome. Like the pic! i don't remember Radio Floss even though I am knockin' on a bit. Sounds like great fun though. Have fun on Basschat -
It's great to hear all you chaps being so appreciative of your partners support. My experience of actually being a WAG was this: The Ex (a drummer) did not really like me going to gigs at all as he saw them as some sort of male bonding exercise. If I did go along I would have to go in my own car,and not turn up too early as he didn't like me distracting him while he 'got in the zone'. Also not sit/stand too near the front as he didn't like to see me sitting there with (and I quote!) 'a face like a slapped arse'. Funnily enough though I was 'allowed' to help him load up the van afterwards. Strange thing is now we have split up he quite often invites me to (drumming) gigs and of course I have actually played with him at a couple of his (guitar) gigs. But I think that's cos he now sees me as 'one of the lads'. Funny old world innit?

Well I haven't got a WAG. Come to think of it, I haven't got a HAB either!

You Know What I Don't Get About Scales...
seashell replied to cytania's topic in Theory and Technique
Oh, now my head's really spinning... When I looked into scales I thought it would be like ear training. There'd be a dozen or so scales I could play, get used to the sound of and then I'd be hearing them in music I want to play (rock, soul, ska covers). At present I think I could gamble on 'major or minor' without losing too much money I think what's confusing me is that in a lot of cases many of these scales are for exotic stuff, I guess most music is standard major scales. Certainly when I play the major scale at various points on the neck all sorts of melodies come to mind (or is it that they come to my fingers?), usually old hymns, children's songs and national anthems. But I would like to get better at spotting when something unusual is being done and have an idea of just what. Anyone know of a resource where popular songs are broken down and labelled scale-wise?
I can really relate to this! I can play loads of different scales, including the modal scales, but applying that to tunes you hear and want to play is really baffing. It would be so great if there was some sort of resource like cytania says. -
Hiya and welcome. I see you're into comedy improvisation. I do that too! In fact I'm just off to a workshop tonight
