Done and I wish you success with the dissertation.

My two basses cost me about £300 each, and would probably fetch even less if I decided to sell them I've got no funeral plan, but no family either. Makes me feel smug when I see all those daytime adverts for funeral plans. Who's going to bury me when I'm gone? The Council can just chuck me in a skip with the rest of my meagre possessions. Haahaa!

Whereabouts? -
How do basses get this dirty? I don't clean mine much, just the occasional once over with a duster. I rarely change the strings as I don't like them too bright. But my basses aren't in a horrible greasy state. Is it because I'm a lay-dee?

The question no one has asked yet...ta dah!!
seashell replied to Barking Spiders's topic in General Discussion
I have a hazy recollection that someone did ask this question before, and it didn't end well. But anyway, to answer your question, the bass playing would win every time with me. -
Also the Stirchley Music Exchange is being re-fitted. Not sure if that's finished yet. I've also heard on good authority that the Drum shop in Stirchley will soon be stocking guitars as well. Hmmm, not sure if one small street can support two guitar shops. We'll have to see.
I've never had the "never call back" thing as most of the auditions Ive done, the people have been really nice and polite and always got back either way. To be honest, I imagine it's almost as frustrating to never hear back as it is to have them ask you on the spot, before you've even taken your bass off your shoulder "we want you, do you want to join?!?!?".... For me, both parties should be allowed to leave without discussing it in any real detail and inform the other people of their thoughts within a day or two, because when you're put on the spot, you are hardly going to say "thanks but no thanks" in a room full of 5 or 6 people who are anxious to find someone and get things going!
Very good point. This happened to me and I lived to regret it. I had to make some excuses to get out of the band a few weeks later. I felt really bad about it because I felt I had been wasting their time while they could have been looking for another bass player. I learned a few things though. Firstly, if an originals band send you 4 songs to learn they are likely to be their four best songs! The rest of the back catalogue might be a bit rubbish. Research first. Also, never agree to anything then and there unless you are really sure. And finally, if you suspect that the drummer is a bit of a Fascist, he probably is. Trust your instincts. :-)

I don't think I'll take anything. It's not a massive venue, and no-one's going to be that impressed with another Mexican Fender P I'm just going along to say 'hi' to some fellow low-enders. And eat cake! :-)
I was pleased with the master classes I saw. I have no interest in megadeath but David Ellefson was superb, he seemed a really nice guy and was interesting. I'll defo go next year because the masterclasses were more interesting than the gear. The gear is interesting, of course, but it's lovely to watch pro players saying all the things that I already thought and know. It proves either, I'm not mad or we're all barking!!!
Yes, this is why I go too. It's interesting to see how much in common all these great players have, whatever the genre they are generally known for. Last year, Robert Trujillo playing with Mark King was a real eye opener!

Just been let go by the band and first thing I think is...
seashell replied to KevB's topic in General Discussion
Neither of them has a particularly engaging stage presence IMHO. They were probably jealous because you were getting more attention. I'm beginning to realise how common that is! -

Yah boo sucks. Just unfriended him on FB. That'll teach him. -
Interesting. I've never been there, though have driven past a few times. What's the parking like?

Another brilliant weekend. I agree with those who said Glen Matlock was the star of the show. But Ida Nielson was fantastic as well. Her performance today was phenomenal. David Ellefson was also amazing. I loved all the performances and workshops. I stayed over in London on the Sat night and I may have had a few ales. I am very very tired now. :-)

And I've accidentally posted twice. We're not doing very well are we? Lol :-)

I think you've accidentally posted in the wrong thread. This is last year's. There's a separate thread for the 2017 show. See you there :-)

I love the fact that the website says 'please be aware that your Satnav might take you to the wrong address'! Nevertheless, I might try to pop along tomorrow afternoon, as long as I can find it! :-)

Speaking as another old fogey 'It's all Rock n Roll to me'. Reminds me of the time when me and my mate Gwyneth told Mr Beck, the groovy young Geography teacher, that we were into 'Progressive' music. He replied 'Progressive what? Progressive jazz? Progressive orchestral?' We couldn't reply so we just stood there giggling for a bit and then scuttled off.
I'm surprised Gail Ann Dorsey hasn't been mentioned. So that's why I'm mentioning her. Super cool IMO.
Good call. And Kim Deal.
For all I know our stand might be a cubicle in the bogs
I should feel at home then. That's usually where I end up playing at gigs.

A wonderful factoid is that Arthur Brown (as in Crazy World of) once had a painting and decorating business with Frank Zappa drummer Jimmy Carl Black. Although I believe they both continued with their musical careers. And Arthur still does, I think.
