Other dude: Why did that bloke just walk out? Jack: It's because you're using a music stand, mate.

Interesting. I played an open mic once where the previously bass player was accused of blowing up the amp. Sound guy said it was cos he had plugged his active bass into the passive socket. They had to put mine through the PA. I've always been really careful to make sure I use the correct socket or setting since then. Maybe it's not as drastic as I thought?

But then again there is Liza Minelli and Kirsty McColl. Also, I would venture Ben Castle (son of Roy) is a apparently a pretty good jazz musician.
I didn't think he was truly awful, just not very interesting....
Yeh, I thought the song he played on R4 was good. But it would have been better with a full band, not just him flying solo.

Out of control 'Lead' Guitarists vs Out of control Saxophonists
Went to a jam session last night and there were THREE saxophonists there queuing up to play all over someone else's solo or step in at a particularly inappropriate moment. They didn't disappoint
He's not exaggerating. I was there! :-) After you left Kev, there were 3 guitarist up widdling all over each other. So to speakl. Wot with them and the saxes, it was a real clash of the titans. -
I wonder how it would go down if someone launched a magazine that advertised the fact that it was specifically dedicated to male musicians?
They have, it's called Kerrang! -
Went to see a band on Sat in a pub showing the game. Screens at one end of the pub, performing area at the other. Band started about 10 min before end of game at a sensible volume and then turned up a bit after end of match, everyone seemed happy.
Coincidentally, on Saturday I also went to see a band in a pub with this arrangement. It helped that it's a sort of L shaped bar, so there were places where you couldn't see the football and places where you couldn't see the band, so people positioned themselves accordingly. It worked quite well.. I barely noticed the football was on. Not sure whether the footie lovers would have been able to ignore the band so easily though - they were quite loud!

I'd rather have the guitarist any day. Too much Sax gets on my nerves. -
Happy birthday. My Mexican Fender P is 10 years old this year. :-)
I think they've been putting shows on recently? Still got a decent online presence. They might be late because they're a relatively small American based group?
I looked on line..they are still featuring the copy I already have. Hopefully they will produce another one at some point! -
This. Music journalism aimed at musicians is awful for excluding women. And that needs to change. One magazine that is doing amazing things is She Shreds. Check them out over here: http://sheshredsmag.com/
I subscribed to She Shreds. Received a copy in January - great! Nothing since then. I'm beginning to wonder if they've gone out of business. -
Which is probably why "Johnny Reggae" by the Piglets hasn't been mentioned yet.
Oh no, I didn't know that was a Jonathan King effort. We used to have an RE teacher called Mr Thompson. One day he appeared in a two-tone suit Thereafter, boys used to sing 'Here comes Two Tone Thompson' at him, to the tune of 'Here Comes Johnny Reggae'. Ah, happy days.

Trying to look a little more cheerful on stage :-/
I used to do amateur theatre stuff and remember that I knew when my expressions were right if the felt exaggerated and forced. If you feel as if you are grinning like an idiot on stage, then you have got it about right.
Yeah, me too and that's another reason why I smile so much. As soon as I get in front of an audience, the smile goes on - it's just second nature now. If I'm not smiling, it's probably because the bass line is really difficult (for me!) or I'm deliberately reining it in. -
He doesn't strike you as the kind of guy that would give a sub-100% performance...
Yes indeed. I was all of a flutter, as you may have gathered.
I do remember reading an article back when he first joined Metallica. The whole 'crab' like walk thing he does apparently pretty much busts his knees up every night, but it's now expected by the crowd! When out on tour, he's on the chiropractors table every day!
OMG, all the more amazing that he bothered to do it for LBGS then, when he was playing somewhat different stuff! I guess he just gets swept up in the moment.
Finally...some of the Mass Mental/ Mark King stage show..
Brilliant vids, Mick. What a great show that was! I also went to Mr Trujillo's Q&A on the Sunday. The thing I really wanted to ask was how does he keep himself in such great shape? He must have amazing thigh muscles!! But I didn't dare ask in case that sounded too trivial/sexist a question. Anyway, it kind of answered itself when he mentioned in passing that he does a lot of surfing What an amazing dude

I'm the opposite. I tend to smile quite a lot, and often get the comment 'You looked as if you were enjoying yourself'. Which always makes me think that the unsaid part of the sentence was 'At least... ' When I see myself in videos I never think I look rock n Roll enough. I wanna be all mean n moody, but I'm more like the mother from the Partridge Family. You can't win really. -
Man of the World, Fleetwood Mac, can bring a tear to my eye if I'm in that kind of mood. Such a sad song.
Ah yes, this as well.

The Armed Man by Karl Jenkins. Edited to add But if it's just a song we're allowed, then Something Wonderful from The King and I.

The only thing I wanted was a set of half wound strings, but there weren't any to be had. People on the Promenade stand told me they wondered whether or not to bring any but thought they wouldn't get much call for them. I guess it's a bit difficult to predict what you'll be asked for Anyway I got a catalogue from D'Addarrio so will probably order some online so they will get a sale from me eventually.

The only drawback was that the there were obviously loads of you there who didn't have lanyards on. So I couldn't say hello to you shy little flowers. :-)
More of a guest vocalist thing as PLJ already existed without Rod, but you're right that he sang on their greatest (only?) hit.
There is/was a BCer who played with them. Unfortunately I've forgotten who now. It wasn't you, was it? :-)
Bit of a guilty pleasure (not to mention the incredibly '80s video) but does anyone know what happened to Tasmin Archer after Sleeping Satellite? https://youtu.be/lOqVQPq8zm8
I always rather liked this. And she seemed like a really nice person. I too wonder what happened to her.

Another amazing day. Robert Trujillo very interesting and entertaining, Michael Manring just beautiful and joyful, plus rock n Roll anecdotes from Suzie and Hookie. Wonderful stuff. Plus more hanging out with Michael Mondesir, who is officially my new best mate now, lol :-)
