I don't want to see boobs, but I like a nice double entendre. I've done the survey. I hope you found my entry useful.

Anyone bringing an EUB? I was very impressed by Norris's at the Midlands Bash. :-)

Cool! :-)

It was bad enough when I didn't know how to pronounce Hartke or Ibanez. But I always thought I was on safe ground with Status. Now you're telling me there's more than one way to pronounce that! Curses!

So lovely to meet some old friends and some new faces. Also nice to chat to some long suffering bass widows, lol Very well organised event. Some tasty gear and some tasty cake. Feel a bit knackered now...glad I'm not gigging tonight like some of you seasoned troupers! :Dz

Isnt it nice to meet BC members for real?
I mean, who on earth would lend a stranger a bass and trust you with it. Only a Basschatter.
Indeed yes, and many thanks to the overly-modest KevB for lending me not one but two if his. Curses, Bassman Sam, why did you have to mention the scotch in the gig bag? Now I owe Kev two bottles, lol -
Oh Lord! I have seen how much cake Mrs S has made. I hope you lot plan on bringing your hungry trousers!
I'll bring a tupperware box!
Fair play to you for being so understanding and for caring so much for you pet. If only more people were like yourself there would not be the animal neglect problem that exists both in Britain and here in Ireland. It was tough what you had to go through physically, and aslo having to cancel your gig. Hope you are back rockin' soon.
+1
I can assure you Conan, it wasn't exactly a rational decision of mine to post this intellectual, insightful and thought-provoking thread on Saturday night, but one more fuelled by copious over-consumption of red wine after a few dry weekends of late.
It's turned out quite well tho. There are a few little gems in this thread

Please keep me updates i would love to get together with some of the musicians down there !
Let me know if you're going. I'd quite like to go along to watch. Wouldn't want to join in just yet as I'm not that experienced at jamming spontaneously, but I'd love to get a feel for what goes on. S
I wasn't around in the 60's and 70's unfortunately but I love those guys for the simple reason that they could write a song. I think the 'Easy Listening' label does a lot of writers a disservice because it cheapens their talent considerably. I mean, imagine writing Wichita Lineman. What an incredible song.
Definitely agree. The 'easy listening' label has taken on connotations which do some of these great songwriters a disservice. I love Burt Bacharach. 'Alfie' is a particular fave of mine. It's like a whole musical rolled up into one song. And Jimmy Webb has written so many marvelous songs, I can forgive hin for 'MacArthur Park', lol

Yep, I would have done the same for a big gig like that. My Mum was an old trouper who brought me up with the motto 'It doesn't matter if you're bloody half dead, you still get up and do the show' Not saying that's right or sensible, but old habits die hard.

First Band Practice Tomorrow - A Bit Hesitant
seashell replied to silentbob's topic in General Discussion
Well, it turns out that there were a lot of crossed wires and guitar boy was actually a decent bloke. Practice went ok and we've all picked a song each to learn for next time so all's good.
Brilliant news! Hope it continues to go well. Playing with other (decent) people is a joy. :-) -
How to survive as a musician without a 9-5 normal job?
seashell replied to britpoprule's topic in General Discussion
Portfolio career, as others have suggested. If you can survive with just a bit of extra money to subsidise what you earn from music, how about exam invigilation? Most Universities (and some FE colleges) need invigilators for about 6 weeks in summer, a couple if weeks in Jan, referred exams in Sept and postgrad exams April and June. It all adds up. And you don't have to work evenings. -
First Band Practice Tomorrow - A Bit Hesitant
seashell replied to silentbob's topic in General Discussion
First - congrats on getting out there and doing it. You're gonna love it, it's brill playing with other people. When I first joined a band I just went with the flow until I found my feet. Ended up playing all sorts of stuff I didn't really care for (including Seven Nation Army funnily enough) plus other stuff I wasn't familiar with before but now actually quite like. If you're just out to have fun, try to enjoy it for a while before stressing too much about what your repetoire will be. Having said that though, I am feeling a tad frustrated now with our guitarist picking most of the tunes. And rejecting some because he reckons the guitar part is too tricky. But making me play some ferocious basslines just cos he likes everything really fast. So maybe you are right to want to nip such behaviour in the bud. Anyway, I hope it brings you joy. :-) -
Your guitarist can fit a drum kit in his kitchen? ! :-0 Sounds great, I bet you'll have a lot of fun doing stuff like that :-)

Even though I'm old enough to be your singer's granny, I can relate to her on this one. It's all very well for you old hands to be terribly bored of playing the same old classics all the time. But some of us who are new to this lark have not had the pleasure of belting out some of these old gems. I'm not a massive fan of Mustang Sally tbh, but that's just my personal taste. But I would really love to do some of the other old chestnuts such as Sweet Home Alabama, All Right Now.. even Sex on Fire. In fact I aim to do just that some day, just need to convince the rest of the band!
