It was bad enough when I didn't know how to pronounce Hartke or Ibanez. But I always thought I was on safe ground with Status. Now you're telling me there's more than one way to pronounce that! Curses!

So lovely to meet some old friends and some new faces. Also nice to chat to some long suffering bass widows, lol Very well organised event. Some tasty gear and some tasty cake. Feel a bit knackered now...glad I'm not gigging tonight like some of you seasoned troupers! :Dz

I told my bass teacher about this and he reckons people will definitely be able to distinguish USA Fenders from MIM and MIJ. I almost felt offended since mine is a MIM, lol. So it will be interesting to see if he's right. (To be fair, he's right about most things) :-)

It's like a whole musical rolled up into one song. And Jimmy Webb has written so many marvelous songs, I can forgive hin for 'MacArthur Park', lol

Portfolio career, as others have suggested. If you can survive with just a bit of extra money to subsidise what you earn from music, how about exam invigilation? Most Universities (and some FE colleges) need invigilators for about 6 weeks in summer, a couple if weeks in Jan, referred exams in Sept and postgrad exams April and June. It all adds up. And you don't have to work evenings.

First - congrats on getting out there and doing it. You're gonna love it, it's brill playing with other people. When I first joined a band I just went with the flow until I found my feet. Ended up playing all sorts of stuff I didn't really care for (including Seven Nation Army funnily enough) plus other stuff I wasn't familiar with before but now actually quite like. If you're just out to have fun, try to enjoy it for a while before stressing too much about what your repetoire will be. Having said that though, I am feeling a tad frustrated now with our guitarist picking most of the tunes. And rejecting some because he reckons the guitar part is too tricky. But making me play some ferocious basslines just cos he likes everything really fast. So maybe you are right to want to nip such behaviour in the bud. Anyway, I hope it brings you joy. :-)

Your guitarist can fit a drum kit in his kitchen? ! :-0 Sounds great, I bet you'll have a lot of fun doing stuff like that :-)

Even though I'm old enough to be your singer's granny, I can relate to her on this one. It's all very well for you old hands to be terribly bored of playing the same old classics all the time. But some of us who are new to this lark have not had the pleasure of belting out some of these old gems. I'm not a massive fan of Mustang Sally tbh, but that's just my personal taste. But I would really love to do some of the other old chestnuts such as Sweet Home Alabama, All Right Now.. even Sex on Fire. In fact I aim to do just that some day, just need to convince the rest of the band!
