Ah Cinders. A long time ago I played a Baby Teddy Bear in a production of Cinderella. Yes, the all important traditional Teddy Bear role.
That's my lead singer and cousin playing Simon. He played Jesus in Adelaide and Sydney whilst Ben was unwell, to really good acclaim as well. We did the aftershow party in Liverpool on the last leg of the UK tour, we ended up playing with Tim Minchin for about 4 hours onstage. Top guy, Chris Moyles even got up and ended up playing drums with us, but we were just about destroyed by then! The Oz tour was Phil Mulford on bass who is just unreal. Not sure about the UK tour because I know Phil couldn't do it. Ben was cracking as Jesus and another lovely chap.
Wow that's all pretty impressive! Your cuz is terrific!

Don't know anything about the (excellent) bassist. But I'd forgotten what a bloody good show this was. It was cool to like it when it first came out, because Andrew Lloyd Webber wasn't the figure of fun he later became The first album version had Ian Gillan as Jesus. How cool is that? I saw it in the West End twice in the 70's. Was completely blown away. Now watching it on C5 and really enjoying it. Ben Forster and Mel C really terrific. Tim Minchin sounds OK but looks a bit stiff. Hosanna! :-)

Does it matter where your expression comes from.?
seashell replied to bubinga5's topic in General Discussion
My expression is usually a mixture of fear and confusion. -
So far I've had a lovely bracelet with silver skulls on it from my best mate. Soon heading off to some other friends for Xmas lunch, so there may be more pressies in the offing! :-)

Happy Christmas one and all, all the very best for the New Year

Definitely! Raising my glass to all you lovely people. :-) -
OK, if they're going to play with me they'll have to be quite nice and not too scary. So I'd go for: Cozy Powell - I met him once and he seemed friendly Jo Morello - was a wonderful teacher by all accounts, so hopefully would be patient Carl Palmer - also does a bit of teaching, and is a Brummie, so I might feel a bit more at ease with him.

A legend indeed. Glad you had a great night and got to meet him, jenevers.

Strap length: been able to play vs looking cool
seashell replied to col.decker's topic in General Discussion
The higher the bass the less cool you look versus the lower the strap the more your back hurts.....do you still look cool hobbling round like an eighty year old because you did a Peter Hook the night before. I realised I stopped being cool at least ten years ago (if I ever was cool) so I wear my bass for maximum comfort...I may go onstage next year in a dressing gown and carpet slippers
As long as you don't go on stage in socks, hat and sunglasses! -
Knackered today after another private xmas party do last night, this time some NHS employees (bless 'em). Nice people and looked after us (allowed us free access to their buffet and offered to buy the band drinks all night) but the city centre venue is a PITA for loading. No easy parking close to the venue and the party room itself is on the first floor, no lift. I opted to go for a mutistorey a walk away and traipse all my gear in in shifts in the rain (£7 parking). The drummer on arrival with his other half got half on the pavement outside but was still in the way of a tram and had to shift it sharpish. When she came back to pick him up at the end she made a wrong turn into a 'bus only' road (so probably a ticket there) and realising the mistake and trying to do something about it then ended up the wrong way down a one way street just as the police pulled up (might be a second ticket meaning the drummer will end up in deficit for the night's work). After getting all my own gear back to the multistorey then lugged half the PA and ancilliary gear back to the singer's car parked in a disabled only area which was still a good stroll away from the venue. They played it last year and the (different) drummer then incurred 2 parking tickets on the night, i don't know why BL accpeted the gig again. If it comes up next xmas I'll probably be long sacked anyway so it won't be an issue for me. Can't even recall how the gig went it was just a blur, had a dep guitarist in so didn't feel like the real band anyway. Wedding gig on Sat so it'll soon be all forgotten.
Sounds like a right pain. You're always saying you're going to get sacked, but you keep hanging in there! I don't think they're going to let you go that easily
I'm a bit OCD and must have the same strings on my basses. My p bass is currently strung with 4 E strings, the Yamaha with 4 A's and the Ibanez with 4 D's... It does mean I now have 4 G strings though
What a very interesting idea. I would love to hear how four E strings sound. Might give it a go one day.z
Sorry seashell! I'd only tallied the people who had voted and posted about it in this thread - I have no way of knowing who clicked the voting link itself. I've now added your name to the 'roll of honour' in the the post above
Oh yes, I should have thought of that! Many thanks -

For those who can't make the London Bass Show - Birmingham, same weekend?
seashell replied to Ian Savage's topic in Events
Would have loved to meet up again, but I can't go to this for the same reason as I'm missing the LBGS - holiday in Tenerife. It seems that all the best events of the year are on that weekend! I'm also missing a comedy in improv masterclass/workshop on the same day. :-0 This had better be a bloody good holiday to make up for it!
