Ladies moaning about husband's 'excessive' guitar practice...
seashell replied to fretmeister's topic in General Discussion
Oh, I dunno. Flogging his splod I suppose. He doesn't want to roger the old trout because of her constant bloody nagging!
Well she did say he was in there tooting away. I assumed that was a euphomism -
Voted. Enjoyed them all, but one stood out for me.
IMO you're never too old to rock n roll. It's just that your priorities have changed. But don't ever equate that with age.
Brilliant! This is one for the BC famous quotes thread.
Now why would I do a thing like that?
Well I was believing your Nina and Frederick story but now I'm not sure. You are toying with us Mr Delvar. -
Two at the moment. This is fine because a) we have no gigs and b ) I have no life. Seriously though I was only thinking today that I seem to be spending all my spare time learning and practising songs for the bands. So I have been neglecting my theory and general 'music' practice of late. :-(

the reason relationships and bands are a bad idea

Glad the OPs situation seems to be resolving. :-) I was a bit apprehensive when forming my number 2 band and singer wanted to bring her fiancee in on guitar. I even started a thread about it! But so far so good. :-) In fact the atmosphere is better than in number 1 band where Vox and guitar are always bickering (2 straight blokes DEFINITELY not in a relationship!) -
They all look fab! The only thing I don't like is the drummer's woossie haircut.

I think her face, movement and general attitude are f***ing brilliant. I shall be trying to emulate her as soon as I get good enough to be able to concentrate on more than one thing at a time! I'm not sure if I am the roughest person of either sex in either of my bands, but I am doing my best to be the liveliest

This gentleman seems to be looking at his fretting hand. But I think he probably knows what finger goes where.
We played the Hop Pole Inn, Bromsgrove last night for the first time. A great little pub where the landlord has a passion for live music and all the regulars love it too! Eleven songs in our set were played for the first time live! Considering this, all went well, and we had lots of great feedback and a repeat booking later in the year.
Let us know when your repeat booking is coming up. I'm near-ish to Bromsgrove and it would be great to see you play.

[sub]Heart Shaped Box by Nirvana[/sub] [sub]I always thought I would never need to discover the mysteries of drop tuning, but the new band were keen to try it so I agreed to give it a go. Asked my bass teacher to give me a lesson on it. OMG what tremendous fun - it sounds amazing!![/sub] [sub]Got home from the lesson, lowered my strap by 2 inches and really rocked out. Am going strictly by the tab - have no idea what notes I'm playing, lol [/sub] [sub]Can't wait to try it with the band on Sunday. They may need a certain amount of patience while I faff about tuning it down, though. [/sub]
Buddy Holly made glasses cool. Roy Orbison made dark glasses cool. John Lennon made NHS specs cool. Dame Edna..... err, no!
Exactly! And that is why I now have contact lenses, possums.

Very good question. I have been a happy specs wearer for the past 20 years. I would never wear them onstage while acting or dancing on stage though. I got quite used to blundering about without them and didn't really have any problems unless exiting during a blackout or walking down any steps. But when I started this bass playing lark, I realised I would have to wear them onstage otherwise I wouldn't be able to see what I was doing on the fretboard. Or see the panicked looks on the faces of the rest of the band if I went wrong. So here was a dilemma. Because although I have no problem with how I look off stage in the specs... onstage they just really aren't rock n roll are they?* Especially for a middle aged woman. Just makes you look too mumsy. So, now I have got meself some contact lenses! I think I look better on stage without them. But they're not that good for driving in the dark so I tend to take them out and revert to Clark Kent before I drive home. *I know there are notable exceptions and BC's own Nigel xxldx is one of them!
It's true, sadly. I haven't even got a mantelpiece.
Well you'll just have to make do with the wainscot then. PS @ Kiwi - I will try to give some sensible feedback at some point but don't have time for a considered reply atm

Mine is the sound of a curious chimp who has just found some old piano wire on a rubbish dump.

Sex. Is playing live as good, not as good, or better for you?
seashell replied to xilddx's topic in General Discussion
Even a good practice session is better than sex AFAIC. It's me age. :-( -
Debs, you sound happy and so you should be, we'll done! 2 questions: What's it like having groupies? Where can I get this t-shirt????
+1 to all this! Sorry I am a bit late, but many congrats on your debut, Debs. :-)

I'd just like to sound like someone vaguely competent!

Ginger Baker Documentary - I can't wait to see this !
seashell replied to Dingus's topic in General Discussion
Ginger Baker is one of my drum heroes. So I was very disapointed when I heard him once on Week Ending on Radio 4 and he came across as a bit of a berk tbh. Would still like to see this docu though. -
Encourage learners, or 'Tell it like it is'..?
seashell replied to Dad3353's topic in General Discussion
I too would love to learn Freebird! I know it's a bit of a cliche for some of our friends on here who are sick to death of playing it in coverd bands. But it is such a classic I would love to do it some day. I have been playing for 2 years now, so maybe I'm halfway there! I have looked at the sheet music, but it's so bloody long I (temporarily) gave up. This thread has inspired me to get it out and have another bash at it! 2015, here I come! -
Encourage learners, or 'Tell it like it is'..?
seashell replied to Dad3353's topic in General Discussion
Cajoling and flattery worked for me! My teacher is always really encouraging and has never 'told me off'. He's always saying 'well done', and if I do anything he really likes, he shakes me by the hand. Lovely guy. Likewise, any advice I've had here has always been very kindly put. Although I have to admit I haven't asked all that many newbie questions. I usually wait until some other brave soul asks and then read the responses. I am such a girlie wimp!
