The other thing that many people forget is when specifying species of woods is that every board is going to be different. Wood is from a living thing and is subject to massive variations due to environmental conditions while growing and rate of growth to name just two. Just because your favourite instrument is made from a particular type of wood doesn't mean that you can replicate it's sound with another piece of wood from the same species of tree.
Though selecting the same species from the same forest/region ideally from a tree of similar age will get you fairly close.
Try these people based in Kings Langley. Maybe not the cheapest but if a jobs worth doing etc www.smaworldwide.com
Ugh - guy on the end of the phone had atrociously poor English, and told me that they only dealt with account holders, when I explained it was a singular item I was shipping and not a regular order, he just reiterated that they only deal with account holders - I asked whether they wanted my business or not and the guy seemed to err towards not. I would recommend avoiding this company in future! Anyone else got any ideas?
So would wood from my local sawmill be rubbish for guitar making?
Bass/guitar wood needs curing time (or whatever you wanna call it). I'm not convinced this is the same as what it is for the mainstream wood market - might be worth finding out. I seem to recall a BGM issue years back had a detailed description of the warwick wood preparation times.
Thunderbirds usually go for about £700-800 depending on condition. I'd say that you should look around that maybe?
Agreed. Blackbirds are rarer but that doesn't necessarily mean more sought after!

I think wood is important, but IME wood quality is infinitely more important than the actual wood you use! I would also say that for most players, you should pick a wood that weighs right with the neck and fretboard (where realistically you should be more concerned with wood choice) and you can pick from a bunch tone wise if you have a bunch that suit weight (and perhaps look) wise.

About £5.50, and yes, I'll take it

OK so it's not drum and bass but it's the sound I want. If anyone remembers a few weeks back me trying terribly to identify the sound I wanted, well it took a trip in the car with my dad to figure it out. http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=uPudE8nDog0&ob=av2e I want a cleaner, bassier version of the sound in the intro. That can be done with EQ, but the raw effect is what I'm after. I'd tweak it slightly to make it a bit more like the video game and dubmood sound I was on about before, but this is as close to the sound as I've heard. Note some remixes/masters of the above song have the cleaner sound I'm after, though I couldn't find the right one on youtube. So, ideas, how do I get this sound?

Hi all, Had some interest in my Warwick for sale (mini shameless plug) from LA. Anyone here got any experience of sending basses to the states, and what the cheapest/most efficient/safest etc way to do it is. I want quotes first as this isn't definite yet! Thanks, Dan

In the same vein, has anyone here got any contacts or companies they would recommend for cruise ship bass playing? I quite fancy doing it for a bit after I graduate.
