1.
Nice work, Dood! I'd be interested to see these interviews... I used to really like Ellefson's playing when I was younger - the little intro to "Peace Sells" is still kicking around in my head, even now
His playing is unquestionably some of the greatest technique I have ever seen. Great feel and dynamic control, and the tone, Oh the tone! Hurry up, Dood!!!!
 2. It'd be tough, but of ones I've seen I think Blind Guardian playing Lord of the Rings would narrowly pip Amon Amarth playing various things, Maiden playing Hallowed be thy name, as well as Carcass and At the Gates putting on stellar sets. All of whom were close to call between. My favourite live video? I'll answer that when I'm sober.
 3. A righty here, but you only have to look at guys like Nadal, who is a righty playing lefty tennis to realise this kinda thing is relatively commonplace (can you imagine if Wooten was a natural lefty!). I once saw a lefty mate pick up a bass and do the upside down wrong way round back to front thing, he put most bass players I've ever seen to shame. Very musically talented, and I was very jealous!
 4. I thought number one sounded both more like a ray and more like a sandberg on a bridge pup than sample 2 did. I voted for 1
 5.
Really, i've not seen any Warwick 5 er's below £400...i'll keep my eye out - there is a Corvette on eBay but its going to be a few weeks before i'm financially in the game.
I've seen a coupla 5er fortresses go at 350/400ish, usually without any bids on them! Corvettes can be a bit more but possibly worth it, depending on what you're after. If you want to save up a bit over double what you've got , I might be in the market to offload mine if the guy in the FS forum wants to sell me his special edition lol. I see now why you PM'd me, good luck anyway!
 6.
Apologies for the lip synching... This is what slap bass is for and how to do it right. Of course that's just in my humble opinion: No, actually it isn't, it's FACT! Do enjoy the bass break three minutes in.
That was effing terrible...
 7.
p.s. just found this 4 strings at bassdirect, cmon guys £1100 bargain http://www.bassdirect.co.uk/bass_guitar_sp...036;$.html
I found it too! It means the guy must've sold it to them for most likely under £1000. I appreciate you don't want a like for like bass, but I am seriously interested in this! I was wondering if you would be interested in a conditional sale agreement, given you are not interested in my Warwick. Essentially, it would entail me attempting to sell my Warwick on here and yours being kept on hold in the meantime with the proviso that I get the first offer as soon as mine sells. Would this be possible? PM me if you're interested. Thanks Dan
 8.
Or maybe a Korean made MTD..
Oooooohhhhh I like....
 9. My post here is my recommendation and my bump. This bass needs no worded recommendation, if you're looking at it, you know how good this is, so do this man a favour pick it up at a very reasonable price.
 10.
Wow, that is a gorgeous bass! Can't afford it of course
+1000000000000000000000000
 11. I love some Jamiroquai basslines but this is missing most of my favourite songs, and ones that I'm particularly keen to learn, any chance of more of these coming?
 12. For that money you could get a second hand German made Warwick Corvette or Fortress. I unequivocally advise getting one of these.
 13.
You're joking, right? The coolest space craft that ever existed, reduced to a pathetic little bass with a Fender neck. Sad, very very sad
I don't know if you've ever seen Picard's enterprise, but it's a badass upgrade on the Millenium Falcon. Wouldn't make for the most comfortable of bodies mind!
 14.
I like the price, which is a novelty for Fender. Gives some additional options for those who don't mind MIM.
I'm no expert, particularly not with Fenders, but I can't imagine the Mexico factory is much behind the USA one in this day and age in terms of anything other than the wages they pay their workers! I wouldn't be surprised if the equipment used to make USA Fenders a decade ago is now in full use in the MIM factory.
 15. if they do a fiver of that blacktop jazz i'm buying one, without a doubt in my mind
 16. double p pups on a j o.O
 17.
Just checked the fixture list. Oldham away. Been once. That was enough. I mght come for a cup of tea and a chat. The thought of all this bass equipment and chops going on is freaking me out a little though! I'm a 'bash' virgin.
The only chops I'll be bringing will be those on my face, and they're even more pitiful than my bass chops :-(
 18. dv247 are doing bogof on tc cabs at the moment!
 19.
The clue is in the title- it's an SM series, the one which came out after Series 6 Some say the SM / SMX range were the peak, others say it tailed off after Series 6.
I'm a numpty, I'll give you that. I like my Series 6 but have used sm's at gigs and at practices a few years back and very nearly bought one too. Series V has the cool light, but they tend to be quite beaten up and not as reliable IMO.
 20.
Ah I see,I saw one of the heads on itself on talkbass which made me curious was all.
Like many amp companies, trace simply built an amp head, and used the same amp in their combos. It keeps the costs down, design time down, and ideally keeps the quality and sound similar across the range. My Hartke has the LH500 head just shoved into a port atop the cab, you can see it on the thread in this forum section for an idea. It looks like it will come straight out.
Thank you all for your replies, very informative. Before I can even consider getting me one of these german bad boys, i'll have to wait until the end of the summer and check my bank balance, and maybe offload some of my extras. However, i've only tried two korean corvettes (bubinga and ash) with two humbuckers each, I should probably see what the other models mentioned sound like whem I play them before I start looking for something in particular...
I very much advise you try as many as you can, it will really help. Personally I prefer the ash to the bubinga any day, I think it looks and sounds nicer, though the ash needs regular waxing (if natural finish) and the colour changes over time if it hasnt been waxed - expect/demand a knock down price on ash ones that have gone yellowy and darkened. Corvette's are fantastic, I tried one and loved it, then going through the same process as you I arrived at the corvette $$, don't buy anything until you try one of those!
 22.
just give it to me no need to be sentimental! Any idea if the head comes out of these combo's btw? really struggling to find info on that one on the bay.
Hehehe, my combo is too heavy to gig with, i can just take my trace to most gigs therefore, is my plan anyway. I would say the head doesn't look like it comes out. I'm sure you can get it out but it's rarely ever meant to!
 23.
Have to disagree. Having taught music in secondary school to pupils from 11-16, I've never had a 3/4 bass or the use for one. I had one pupil who had one and brought it in, only to tell his mates that his dad (a guitarist) bought it for him because it was guitar size but easier to play because it was a bass, and he would move onto guitar when he got good enough *rolls eyes*... At the end of the day, if he's learning "the correct technique" as you put it, ideally he'll be playing in the first 5 frets really. The difference between short scale and full size electric bass guitar is never drastic enough to make enough difference to justify restricting a pupil to a 3/4 size IMO. If we were talking double bass it would be a totally different story. I only say this because I think the OP should consider all the options in this thread, and not restrict himself to only 3/4 basses. As for my recommendation, a Squier Precision is a good idea. Give him a bass that really is a bass and let him decide whether it's for him or not!
With your experience then I have to disagree with my initial idea. So, go full size! I'd have to say a squier J over a P though, a P neck is seriously a lot to get your hands around (I don't like doing it now), let alone that young.
 24. At age 11 I'd have to recommend 3/4 size, short scale, something cheapish to get him going until he grows. I started at 14 and my hands were not up for many of the stretches I can now perform. Better to learn correct technique on something smaller than to struggle along on something too big for a few years IMO.
 25. It's a gear4music bass. Nothing wrong in that at all, I had a guitar strat copy of theirs and loved it - sanded and set it alight in various places though, gave it to my guitarist to smash against a pillar at our first gig with the new lineup not too long ago, sort of regret saying he could do that now! Plenty of nice basses here to blow your money on and a whole lot more besides!
