1. i like quite a few bands without bass players. There's also: The Jon Spencer Blues Explosion, Pussy Galore, Japandroids, Sleater-Kinney, Coachwhips, The Kills, Royal Trux, to name only a few.
2.
epic fails.........................................
I put my coffee down before watching these. Good thing i did.
3. Here was mine i bought from new, for a very good price (several hundred pounds cheaper than i've seen it nowadays). It was a very comfortable, light and solid bass. Definitely one of the good Gibsons. I eventually sold it as it didn't quite fit tonally with my next band. However, i'd love to still have it now. It looked super cool on stage in white. 4.
What's the definition of 'failing' anyway?
by his definition it's "not moving toward the level of success you want"
5. Yeah, the bass may come back, as they put them on hold for enquiries, as Beedster said. I've bought from them on a couple of occasions (through Hiro) and it's been great.
6. Indeed, bythesea
7.
There's an old Pantera video showing something very similar on the guitar & bass (can't remember which song it's for though).
5 Minutes Alone That's what i thought of too.
8. Yup, i've been using one for a good while now. They're good imo. Pretty meaty. There's a sound clip in this other post of mine. http://basschat.co.uk/index.php?s=&sho...st&p=556301
9. For me, feel, rather like co-ordination, is a natural thing. You're either born with it or you're not.
10. bump. A vintage Fender for a few hundred English.
11.
Andy went bankrupt, not sure who owns it now. He managed to keep his Rolls Royce though
Music Ground are in their now. Although disturbingly, i have seen Andy himself in there now. I think he has his fingers back in that pie, so to speak. I once stupidly had them sell a guitar on my behalf (when it was still Andy's) and guess what, when it did, the cheque he eventually (yes it took some time) gave me bounced. I then went back in person and demanded the cash after explaining the bounced cheque (he made out he was surprised , lol). Would you believe it, they found the cash. It might have been the look of "i will break everything and everyone in the shop" i had in my eye. Just ordered from the bass centre for the first time. A pedal that's in stock. I'm wondering how long the process will take. Any ideas?
12. That sounds about right. I'm no expert on these, but i know a black one sold on Denmark St (Wunjo) for £295 recently. I quite like them. As a P-man, they appeal to me.
13. Our (my) band is defintely a sum of its parts. It would not be the same with an imposter temporarily filling in, in any of our roles. If one person can't make a gig, we don't play it. So i vote for "a bit peeved."
14. EHX English Muff'n. It's a tube overdrive and it reacts well to your attack (eg more break up the harder you play etc). It also keeps the lows pretty intact. here's a sample
15.
Yeah that looks interesting too. Anything particular you after?
Trade-wise i was thinking Highway 1 Ps (not the red though), or any other slightly tatty looking P, perhaps in Fiesta red or surf colours, Sandberg Cali Ps, or basses like a Guild B302, Washburn B20, Vox, oddball basses which are P-like... Basically, nothing modern-looking, quilted and shiney with preamps and all that...

18.
I'm still defending what I said, in that in that at least in the genres I'm interested in, clothing is not that important. Look at what the Arctic Monkeys, Blur, Sonic Youth, Pearl Jam, and countless others wear on stage. Jeans and a t-shirt and a pair of comfy trainers usually!
It's still a style/uniform. That's the thing, they have a universal band image. It may look like just jeans and a t-shirt etc, but it's the specific type: old worn vans/converse, an influential band t-shirt and so on. Looking uninterested in fashion is the fashion in this case and it was very much so in 90s, when everyone was looking very Pearl Jam, Sonic Youth, Nirvana etc...
19.
I don't like "Image" per se as it takes from the music...
I disagree. It certainly adds to the experience in my opinion, particularly live. Look at bands like The Cramps, The Ramones or more recently, Rob Zombie (White Zombie), Marilyn Manson, Slipknot etc... Adding a theatrical and visual aspect to the music you are playing, reinforces it all. Sure it can look dumb to people not into it, but for those who are, it's what they identify with.
20. The Tokai bodies are in my opinion too fat, unlike the Gibson and Epiphone models. The Epi body is more like the Gibson.
21. Gibson actually reduced the price of their SG guitars recently, at least in the US.
22. Yeah, good gig last night. We played 'Underbelly' in Hoxton Square, London. Nice little downstairs venue. Sound was pretty good on stage, decent crowd and the gig went well. I think we made some new fans too.
23.
Gig tonight went well; played The Underbelly in Hoxton sq. Really nice venue, nice and cosy. My first gig as lead singer and bassist (our singer quit 4 days earlier) I didn't (noticeably) forget any of the words and I managed to play and sing better than I had at practice. Everything was good and tight and we were playing to a few people. The sound man destroyed us though. The bass and guitar were almost inaudible over the drums and the extremely loud vox didnt help my confidence much. Strangely enough he had the mix right for every band either side of us
I'm playing there tonight. Dodgy sound guy huh.
24.
Anyone here used Tonefactor in USA? Cheers Gareth
I purchased a pedal from them, earlier this year, via one of their ebay listings. Everything was fine. It came direct to my work address.
