1. Dave Allen of 'Gang of Four'. Check out "Entertainment"
2. Having owned an ash precision, i found it to be brighter (more middy) sounding than my alders. The grain tends to be nicer, hence the tendancy for see-thru finishes i guess. ...and yes it was heavier.
3. So i got my MAG 300 Evo II yesterday. It's going to be my backup/sharing amp to my Orange AD200 valve head. It looks pretty cool in its two tone grey/black matched with my Aguilar DB cab silver/black. With a quick bit of eq-ing i can dial in a tone similar to my Orange. Whereas on my Orange, i pretty much don't touch anything, it's that nice. Thanks to the efficient cab, i reckon it'll certainly cut it at gigs too. Loving the VU meter as well. ^_^ So now i have 'Oranguilar' and 'Maguilar' set ups
4. I've used (borrowed) one of these at a gig with a Tbird, at it was superb. Louder than it looks. Think of it as £99. Certainly a bargain i'd say.
5. Which do you have umph and how does yours work?
6. Thanks. I take it you can actually adjust the bias with that tool, rather than just monitor it? Edit: ok, read the manual. it's just an indicator.
7. Does anbody have any experience with amp biasing kits for output valves? I saw one on hotroxuk and thought i'd look into the idea and see if it's worthwhile.
8. If you don't recognise the advantages of both, you don't know your instrument.
9. RIP. Raw Power is class! PS has anyone seen Iggy Pop's advert for insurance or whatever it is, on the TV? WTF
10. Did McCartney use a Rick on the recording of Helter Skelter?
11. What is illogical about these, is that they are MIM, yet they cost more than US standard models. I do like a worn Fiesta red finish though.
12. Sadly it's not on their website, that i could find. I emailed them and got a reply saying "1 x 8 ohm cabinet you will get half power." I would have thought it might have been closer to two thirds perhaps.
13. I've been reading the wiki and i have a question to put to people. I have a 350 watt 8 Ohm cab (Aguilar DB210) which i use with my Orange AD200 valve head (200 watts. I never have to turn the volume past half way). I want to get a cheaper SS back up and i have my eye on MAGs. Would i be crazy getting the Mag 600 (575w) and using it with my cab? At 8 ohms it would be drawing about half the power and i doubt i'd have the volume full up. Or, would it be more sensible opting for the Mag 300 (307w), which as mentioned would be pushing 180w? But i'm probably more likely to be pushing it harder. Linus, do you find your current set up loud enough?
14. Man, that is hard to resist. I'm looking for a cheap SS back up head. I was thinking Mag 600 or this LH500. A LMII (which i also considered) seems just a little bit too much for a back up. The LH500 should output 350watts at 8 ohms, i would guess? I'm wondering which would give me more volume and headroom into my 8 ohm cab (my main amp is all valve). I get the feeling i'd be happier tonewise with an Ashdown.
15. I'd say they've identified a market and/or are merely meeting demand. I'm not a fan of shiny basses. However i do own some. I prefer a matt or dulled finish, so there isn't much choice out there when looking at new guitars. I find it funny that people get angry about this though
16. Anyone used the Bass Centre recently? Are they worth dealing with? I have to decide where to spend my money (for what i'm looking for). Their site still mentions their premises near Liverpool St. (Is it now just the warehouse?) While their registered office, is a stone's through from me. The thing is, i'm thinking of spending pretty big, so i'd rather play the instrument than take a chance over the net.
17. I preferred the Fenders in that video too...
18.
OK. I wanna try one for myself! Does anyone know anywhere in London that stocks the Jazz? If I buy it I'll need to be pointed in the direction of a DIY shop to buy some gaffa tape to cover up that embarrassing logo
Chris Bryants and Chappell Music both have them.
19.
According to the girlfriend, she was looking for a bass dvd and picked up a guitar dvd, when she asked the fella at the counter he just said to her, "cant you read, this is for guitar not bass"
Sounds like a missed opportunity. I would have said "Sure i can read. I see the word C*NT on your forehead." Any shop assistant being deliberatley rude to me will get it back in spades.
20. Fender's prices have gotten silly at the moment and i don't recall being given a reason for the price hike (was there an official line?) I can only imagine the 2nd hand market for Fenders will prosper. Having said all this, i am in the market for a new US standard P. Yes i can afford it, but i don't like being held to ransom.

22. Their prices a rather unattractive at the moment, particulalry on basses.
23. Yeah, i was thinking 'the chain'.
24. Hello. I was hoping to use the many eyes of Basschat. I'm on the look out for an Olympic white/maple neck, new (2008) American standard Fender Precision. Has anyone physically seen one recently in a shop, in or nearish London? I've only seen them in black. Please give me a shout if you have. Ta. I might just do a Wayne PS what's the bass equivalent of 'Stairway to Heaven'
