Hi all, I'm feeling this thread has turned pretty bad and I'm not happy about that. I would like to take the time to address a few points and draw a line under this if people are willing. Stuckinthepod
Thank you - good post. I agree with your opening statements and wish to draw a line under this too. (And I'm glad that your bass is OK and that you are enjoying it. ) Jazzneck.
How was that the OP's fault? He simply raised a complaint as he saw fit. No influence over the MD's decisions from there on. And how exactly was firing the driver the only outcome? I'm as surprised as anyone that the complaint resulted in a termination of employment but that's the fault of the company, not the OP. Your repeated guilt-tripping of the OP is becoming unpleasant. I suggest you have a look at your interests underneath your profile pic and re-think before you post again.
Is this "Mischief! Mischief! MISCHIEF!!!"Cosmo? . Point taken, and I will now shut up as it was not an attempt at trolling or guilt-tripping, just honest comments and opinion on the basis that IMHO some people do not think through the results of their actions before carrying them out. Over and out.

Sorry people, my final stupid questions which I should have asked in the first place. How did the OP expect his bass to be delivered as per laid down procedures if there was nobody at home to receive it and sign for it? I take it that he was checking the tracking information and would have a rough idea when delivery was expected? Why didn't he contact PF in advance as I have done many times, to arrange delivery or collection accordingly?
I think this is a harsh judgement for someone doing a fairly menial job. Surely fraud is where someone has gained financially. The person who has gained is the OP who has got his goods, albeit in an unconventional manner. No one on this forum likes the idea of basses of all things being left unattended and at the mercy of the elements, but I think things need to be put into perspective, the bass was not damaged, not stolen and delivered on-time. All the bad things we talk about did not happen. Maybe the driver is damned if he does, damned if he doesn't and It's a pity this was not an opportunity for education and training.
+1M. Why, oh why, did this have to be escalated instantly by e-mailing the MD? Yes, the delivery man did not follow the rules and it may not be his first offence - I'll concede that. What I have difficulty in understanding is why in the world did the OP slam this incident all over a forum in the public domain before complaining to PF and Thomman? All the OP succeeded in doing was putting the MD in a position where he could only make one decision - fire the driver. (Well done, son.) I wonder if the drivers local ops. manager has been sanctioned as well?. Please, ladies and gents, all I ask is that before you fly off the handle in public you consider the result of your actions, too.

Thanks to Mr. Apple I'm now submitting my original post, edited for personal insults, for completeness of the thread.
Wrong. Lodged a complaint via their official complaints function on their website because I could complain via the phone. I also then copied in their MD on an email to Thomann a day later.
I now refer you to your own post below which, to me, reads differently.
Hi all, This is the reply from ParcelForce. I emailed their MD directly.
... so stop wriggling and distorting your story - the bloke lost his job.

It's OK Lozz, it's just that my son found this bass for me a while ago after I told him that his one was no good coz it had a maple board. He gets very touchy on the subject - you know what you youngsters are like.......

Bert, the Elgen standard colour was the raspberry tolex with pink face plate / grey silver cloth in those early days. Like this: Did you get round to The Nags Head for a pint whilst you were there? Scene of The Blues Loft where we saw everyone from Howlin' Wolf to Blodwyn Pig in those heady days. And it was where I met Mrs. Jazzneck all those years ago, too.
I've no idea where they were made, but the pickups in my '63 J sounded incredible - far better than any other J I've owned. And I've owned a lot...
Same as on my Limelight Precision from Mark - exactly the same comments as WOT.
It's my somewhat idiosyncratic Red Iron custom, with mods by Champ Electronics. 2x6SL7 in the pre and 2xKT88s in the power. It has a lovely core tone, pretty clean but smooth and gritty when you dig in. Filthy and creamy when driven by a hot bassy signal. I made the case myself, TBH it photographs nicely but is a tad shonky in the flesh ☺ It's not being used much at the moment as my current band requires mega clean with lots of headroom, but will come out again as soon as something rockier/blusier comes along.
That head looks great and a tad familiar - PM is on its way.
I wonder how they were running a pair of KT88 to get a 40 watt rated amp out of them. Most instrument amps seem focussed on wringing all the available output out of the valves, so was this more of a conservative, hi-fi sort of design? This could be interesting...
Interesting point. Tony, Mr. Elgen, designed and built the amp and I was the guinea pig. I used it in anger at High Wycombe Town Hall where, in a three piece band, I only needed to set the volume at about 1.5. I commented that it was bl**dy loud for only 40Watts. A few days later Tony set up a Marshall 100W on his 'scope and calibrated said 'scope to show 100W of Marshall clean, just on the point of distortion. Against this calibration the Elgen showed iro 135Wish clean, just on the point of distortion. Interesting, eh? I don't know how he did it but it was one hell of an amp.
I remember Elgen very well. Went to their factory to buy a 100w valve P.A. amp and it was superb. I always wanted an Elgen bass amp but could never afford it.
It was a great little business with some fascinating characters working there making some really good kit. Was Tony still charging £1/watt in your day? In 1968, a 100W head would have cost the equivalent of £1623.60 in today's money. My take home pay then was £5/10/6 a week equivalent to £89.70 per week today.
