I'm off up there (the loft, that is) myself later. I will report back............
-
Her Highness was up in the loft looking for some her flower arranging stuff, yesterday. There was a shout, "Do you need these or shall I throw them out?" "What are you on about?" I replied. 2, yes TWO, of my original1960s curly leads came hurtlin' out of the loft hatch. ........ and they still work. ........ and they are not as good as new leads. ........and - no way - she's not throwing them out. ........and I'm going to use them at the Pirate Radio 50th. Anniversary gig.

3 days, 3 gigs, 3 different bands... 73 songs!
Jazzneck replied to warwickhunt's topic in General Discussion
Go for it Lad , and best of luck. I've got a similar weekend at the end of March; Friday - 50th anniversary of Pirate Radio playing 1960s stuff Saturday - jazzy blues gig in our local (first outing for this band). Sunday - local theatres' Mothers Day charity concert - 40 minutes skiffle set. Fortunately I'm with the same drummer at all three and we are looking forward to it. It should be a gas! -
A song you have always wanted to play live......
Jazzneck replied to Jazzneck's topic in General Discussion
Oh yes, and this one would be good to do also "What is and what should never be" Thanks, Roland. -
You lucky man, Chris. I've only got to see him once - RHA April 1969 when IMHO he was at his peak (with Fleetwood Mac supporting). An outstanding performance with, I think, Louis Satterfield on bass. Enjoy the film.

There's one song I've always wanted to play live on stage but it hasn't happened yet. River Deep, Mountain High. Perhaps I will, one day........ What's yours?

Back in the winter of 1967 we got hold of an import of "Blues is King" which was played to death over the space of two weeks. In early January 68, round at a mates house after a few pints of Red Barrel, we were sitting watching the the white dot disappearing on the tele as transmission stopped at 11pm. My mates mum walked in and asked what we were doing. His immediate response was "Waiting for the BB King Show to start". It finally happened last night on BBC4 and there's me watching it with a cup of tea and biscuits. ..................strange that.

Lazy Git wants to repaint a bass body -advice please.
Jazzneck replied to Jazzneck's topic in General Discussion
Thanks Skank. Solid gold in the middle, watermelon on t'outside. -
Long story short, can anyone help please? No2 son rescued a 1990s Legend JB from a skip. It had been in the North Sea on a video shoot. The neck is like an over ripe banana, the pickups and electrics are f8cked. I have a spare fretless neck what fits and enough bits in my spares box to make a usable bass. Now, I would like to repaint the body which is black to the red/gold old Framus sunburst. I'm a lazy git and cannot be bothered to strip all of the PU/epoxy paint off the body (not worth it IMHO). Can I get away with smoothing the existing paint down, prime it, then spray and over laquer it accordingly? Which primer / undercoat / paints do I use? Any advice gratefully received. Thank you.

Bought a CV 50s from Dave today. Great lad, superb comms and full of ideas. Buy with total confidence from this man.

Brilliant stuff Seashell, it's great playing without a drummer, innit?

OK Clarky, I'm in............. I'm playing a skiffle gig tomorrow and will be using my electro-acoustical bass through my first edition Ashdown Perfect Ten. OTOH I've been an total softie this afternoon. My Son turned up for a cuppa on his way home from work and to tell me that my10yo Grandson can play a couple of Green Day songs on his little brothers toy nylon strung acoustic. I sent my Son off home with my old Alden Zemaitisalike and Epi Valve Junior complete with free lead, plectrum and the promise of a strap. The phone call of thanks from my Grandson absolutely choked me - to use his words "so cool". A little thing, but so much pleasure..........

After serious pressure from the band I was in to get a 5 string I succumbed and commissioned a Warwick Dolphin SN5 with a piezo. Beautifully made, played well, came with a flight case and all the bells and whistles. An interesting bass which I gigged under protest for nearly two years but it wasn't for me. Soon as I left the band I flogged it via the bay, got my money back (I think the buyer is a BC member) and went back to a Precision 4 stringer- best move I ever made.

Brand new, but have been removed from an Electro Acoustic Full Scale Bass which I bought brand new this week. I much prefer black nylons on this type of bass, hence the change. Come from a 2 a side headstock 34" scale bass. I think these are D'Addario due to the different coloured ball ends on the strings - just like D'Addarios. Looking for £15 + postage, please.

The original Percy Priors in White Hart Street, High Wycombe was a magical spell filled place. Went in for ONE guitar plectrum and came out with a Vox T60 cabinet and The King of The Delta Blues Singer album. Had to take the cab home via Thames Valley busses as my Dad refused to carry the thing in his car in case it scuffed the roof lining.

Thanks Dingus, that makes sense.

Can I be a bit dim and ask why/]?

Good'n at the local last night playing with an ex local hero. Straight in, no rehearsal and played everything from Day Tripper (in the key of A ), through Hotel California to Auld Lang Syne and back again to Wonderwall. 5 hours of crazy fun with a great bunch of punters and we got paid and had free food and beer. HAPPY NEW YEAR!

1964 Epiphone Rivoli (EB-232) Sunburst w/ Tortoise pickguard, £1400
This isn't a particularly helpful post mate. Are you suggesting it's overpriced or that I should edit the post to mention this modification?
Sam - I'm sorry if I have offended you; that was not my intention in the slightest. I had an EB2 with this "mod" in the past which caused some grief when I came to sell it even though the pots were original but some of the wiring wasn't. A lot of punters who want this type of bass are seriously put off paying higher/mid range prices if the body of the bass has been cut in any way. Billy Apple makes a lot of sense but I would suspect that you'll get offers that are a bit lower than you're asking. IMHO of course. Try Andy Baxter Bass in London for some advice. -
Yep, and I agree with him. People generally need an identifiable set of 'credentials' to work out who you are, what you do and where you stand in the pecking order.
Yep also. A few years before I retired from the day job (production director at a successful manufacturing company) for no reason other than the hell of it, I grew my hair and sidies back to where they were when I was 19 years old (now very grey though). This caused a few comments, as you can imagine. Still for no apparent reason that I could fathom, I then decided to dump the suit and stuff and dressed for work in Levis, shirt and trainers. My work did not suffer but the relationships throughout the business improved. Strange that, when you consider being told what works and what doesn't work by "the experts". So I guess I became me again - a production boss who played bass and is still a bit of a hippy at heart who pays for his guitars.
nooooooo you would need a whole new metalchat site to cater for all the sub sub-sub sub-sub-sub genres wotevs
I take your point, but how many drop tunings can we actually hear / discuss - the mods could limit / compress them surely? Whatever.
-
Metal vs Soft Rock would be good, too. Whatever.
