1. I have a reliced 52P but if anyone did this to any of my instruments he would have eight broken fingers and two broken wrists PDQ! And I would take the consequences from the courts, too - stoically! A boring tale......... I played a festival once where the middle class twunt of a bass player who went on before us threw his Ampeg SVTIII head off the back of stage during the load out "because I'm having a bad day". It broke into many pieces. Daddy told him as they were getting into their BMW750Csi, "Never mind, I'll go to TDs and get a new one for you on Monday". F+CK ME!
2. Ampeg BA115HPT on casters - the 200W one with the valve in the pre-amp and 15" speaker - has filled this type of job for me for years with no probs at all. http://www.ampeg.com...ssamp/ba115hpt/ Not sure if they still make 'em but you can pick them up for about £270 max. second hand.
3. This............... with La Bella 1953 James Jamerson custom type flats
4. Enjoyed that, but I prefer Bills bass playing.
5.
Who's playing bass in that? Suit and glasses make me think Bernard Edwards, but don't associate the sound/playing/jazz bass with him.
I think it's Calvin Jones, also known as Fuzz........ Interestin' that in the clip posted they're speaking German - speaking in tongues? The power of the Lord...... ANOTHER TAXI, PLEASE.....
6. Looking forward to this - or is it backwards to 1969 when I was there with Mrs. Jazzneck on our second "date"?
7. It took me over 15 years to find a Jazz bass that fitted the bill - ended up with a Japan 62 RI but I still had to tweak the action and intonation a gnats to suit me.
8. Depends on whether they're performed in concert, I s'pose
9. Too much to drink, obviously.
10. I'm being daft as usual but why a lions head on a jaguar? You'll be calling it an F-Type next......... (Hides behind his Mum.....)
11.
Just wondered
"The wonder of yoooooo.........."
12. A wonderful job, Bluejay! Thank you......................
13. Who's Elvis Costello?
14. I'm finally home (did stop for a burger at Chelmsford, though ). I can't really add anymore to what's already been said other than THANK YOU FOR A GREAT DAY, ALL OF YOU! And thanks for putting up with this talkative old duffer, too.
15. I will be bringing a couple of Jazz scratch plates - don't know which of the multitude of Fender models they fit, but if anyone can identify them I should be grateful. Oiz gettin 'sited now.
16. It's 99% certain that I'll be there. I am travelling down the A12 and round the north section of the M25 - If anyone wants a lift, PM me please. I'll have room for a body with a bass and a small amp/combo jobbie......
17. Played one of our seaside pubs last night. Not a bad gig at all - usual 50s/60s set which went down very well and then it happened................... One of our old super session guitarist mates was there and got forced up to do a number with us. Bloody Nora! - we did 'Walk On The Wild Side' and it worked ! Never played it in our lives before, the crowed went nuts and the landlord smiled.
18.
A big valve driven brick wall type, yes
Nah - use a compressor instead!
19.
The singer in my band has just sent me this. Thought I'd share it.
Thanks - I've reposted this to the thread: Oh Dear, this is why they hate us SO MUCH
20. Voila!
The singer in my band has just sent me this. Thought I'd share it.

21.
i was referring to others peoples posts to be honest Nige. my point was i dont like the thought of every bassist holding down a root or something so daring as a fifth, or a double stop. blimey lets not even think of modes.
For a bass to be a tuneful rhythm instrument it means that you don't have to stay on the root, fifth - you can play anything, including modes (whatever they are ), as I think you may notice if you listen to Jamerson, Dunn, McVie, Satterfield etc. ......but I'm probably wrong coz I know b*gger all about theory, technique and stuff and I can't read a dot, not for want of trying.
22. With all that fiddlin' around at the dusty end of the neck and multi stringed instruments why didn't they just play guitars? Sorry, but I'm a believer in that bass is a tuneful rhythm instrument.................. .................................but I have got a rug like wot they've got so maybe I should shut up.
23. Sorry I'm late and apologies to OP but I was going to start a similar thread when I got home last night - I fully understand where you're coming from. I played a long outdoor charity gig with my £60 eBay OLP MMalike yesterday and was in seventh heaven, for similar reasons. I used the bass , Behringer BDI21, two leads and straight into the Behringer based PA. I had a great range of sounds and a load of fun playing everything from 1930s country blues through Little Feat to a reggaefied version of Oasis. More than once, the rest of the band and some punters commented on how good the bass sounded and were astonished when they found out what I was using costing me less than £100 all up. There's a moral here somewhere 'cos it certainly ain't my playing skills which made it sound good.
24.
.......... I only own an idiotic-phone that makes calls and sends texts...
Me too, but ain't that wot they're s'posed to do?
