I was about 10, my pocket money was 7/6d so I do remember what it would buy.
Bloody Hell, you were rich. I was 13 then and I got £1 2s 6d which had to last for a whole school term. I was allowed to spend it on what I wanted (within reason) but when it ran out - tough luck - I had to wait for the next instalment which was the start of the next school term. I did use some of it to buy 'My Bonnie Lies Over The Ocean' by a guy who had the name of Tony Sheridan with The Beatles. Wonder where that disc is now, Ho Hum...........
What are these 'pence' of which you speak..?
Pieces of metal which you could use to buy 45s, Woodbines, Watneys Red Barrel, Durex and Old Spice etc. on Friday payday ready for the week-end.
Not really followed this thread, never was a Beatles fan except for maybe the odd Hari Georgeson track in the 70s. Its 50 years last week since they played in Tamworth according to the local paper, supported by 2 bands one of which was probably just as popular locally as they were at the time. http://www.thisistam...l#axzz2KbWqakeu Interesting to note that in the next weeks paper, people were complaining about them turning up late, in the worst weather the UK has ever known, and only playing for 20 minutes. Mind you, Tamworth people are a bit militant even over 6/- (33 of these new fangled pence)
6/6d in 1963 = £5.47 in todays money! Counterfeit Beatles £17 this month! I hope you took to the streets of Tamworth and rioted accordingly.
I would hope any band which had the amount of live experience the The Beatles had by the time they came to do that recording, could do the same. After all in those days your didn't spend days getting the drum sound together. The band turned up to the studio and played. They had the sound the producer/engineer gave them and it went direct to the mono master. And that length of time would have given them the ability to do up to 10 takes of each song. Easy!
That's exactly the point - The Beatles were young with a load of live experience and could f**king play and write. They then used that first major recording experience as the foundation block on which to build without tab, youtube, computers, fora, "music institutes" and all the crap of "instant band" that's around today. And I, for one, still prefer the sound of live recording on vinyl.

How many of todays bands could record a first album of the quality like they did - 585 minutes! Be interesting to see how this turns out bearing in mind the experience of the performers, session musicians, studio crew in there today compared withe The Beatles of yesteryear. To answer your question Mr. Lennon, you did pass the audition.

Aha - I also have a 1990s US V4BH which I use with a 4x10HLF Classic cab and although this is a great combination for bigger gigs it doesn't sound the same as the B15N. Thiele is the description for a tuned ported cabinet: see http://www.eminence....ted-enclosures/ and Google "Thiele bass cabinet" Our colonial cousins on Talkbass are worth a general read (I warn you in advance there are loads of pages in 10 sections to wade through; some dross in there as well) to get a feel for why these Ampegs are so different and good - the cabinet design, sealing etc. is critical to the sound. It is worth a read to get a feel for what these amps are about and what the "magic" is - it's not easy but they are great amps/cabs. see: http://www.talkbass....ex-club-437266/

Wow - that's a tricky one. I have a B15N (early 1970s) and I haven't found anything yet that sounds like it. You also have to consider which year of B15N you want it to sound like as there were numerous types of speaker cabinets, speakers, circuits etc. used over the years - not a bad one amongst them (exept the tranny amps) and remember they were all low wattage (30-50W) valve amps. For simplicity, if you are in the UK, I would look for a Linear Conchord head and a closed back Thiele cabinet but make sure everything fits first.
This post is to grammar, spelling and punctuation what TAB is to notation. It's painful to read. Have some respect for us poor sods who aren't fluent in rambling disjointed nonsense, please.
Couldn't agree with you more, but I would love to try some of the stuff he's smokin'.

I am old but: Allman Brothers Little Feat The Stax Tour 1967 -
Sorry Peeps, but I am old fashoned and much prefer to speak with people. The guys I play with all know this and will call me on landline or mobile knowing that I'm probably wasting my time - whoops, sorry - keeping up with things on BC. However, God help anyone who tries to ring this old fart after 21.00hrs or before 06.30hrs - there will be an outcome! Better to e-mail and you'll get an answer in the morning. Works every time.

Interesting - I was going to have a punt on this one at its original listing but thanks to our local internet going down, I was not able to. The listing ended with no bid/sale and as a mobile number was in the advert I rang up. Slightly off beat converstaion with the lady who told me she couldn't be bothered to list it again, perhaps in the future?, keep an eye on eBay........ I did and lo and behold....... Can't be bothered with games like this, so I'll wait just like I have been doing for the last year or so, unless a BC member has one at the sensible price of £250?

Windsor 1968: us "Can we have a gig, please?" promoter "Yeah, support for Chicken Shack next month" us " Great" promoter "How much do you want?" us "£10, please." promoter "F**k off, I put The Stones on for a fiver at the same venue" us "You f**k off then" promoter "OK, 6 quid and a few beers each then?" us "OK,see you next month" We got £10 plus about 5 beers each and three more gigs from him before he went bust - Great Gig.

All of the above, particularly all the Chess boys with Willie Dixon, John McVie with Mayall and Peter Green era Fleetwood Mac,Fabulous Thunderbirds and a must listen is BLUES IS KING album by BB King - Louis Satterfield on bass. Lock in with the drummer, be lazy and a gnats cock behind the beat and remember that less is more - space and feel is your friend. A very famous US Bluesman told me in the late 1960s that the sign of a good blues band is one where everyone except the bass and drums drop out and the whole club keeps groovin' and dancin'. Go for it young man, forget the theory, use the force and have a good time. -
I have done (and still do) a lot of stupid things, but this isn't one of them. However... I have suffered catastrophic loss of bass signal before playing a set and after much wailing, gnashing of teeth and a desperate search for a solution, it transpired that I had forgotten to introduce a speaker cable between the amp and cab. How we all laughed!
Yup, done that - Ipswich Music In The Park, BBC Stage, penultimate band a few years ago - ended up through the PA , no monitor and had to play off the snare drum and vocals. By gollygosh that certainly focussed the solitary braincell and I had to buy the beer post show, too.
That would make you a basstard. Seriously? You've done that?
Yup, done that too in 1967 - hence the avatar!

Good afternoon. Back on topic - C'mon, how many of us old boys tried to tune up our bass G string to the guitards open G, got the octave wrong and bust a string then?
