1. Sorry it's not the best pic in the world, but this is a little bit special to me.
 2. Bedford Dormobile - piddling into a leaky radiator at 2am to keep things cool enough to get home, running out of fuel at the top of a long 1:15 hill and coasting down to the garage at the bottom only to overshoot due to faded brakes and having to push the loaded bugger back to the pumps uphill. We eventually had it serviced and, next gig, going downhill on the A40 at Denham a sparkling plug blew out (stripped thread, bloody mechanics). Refitted the plug using the silver paper from a Kit-Kat bar and the beastie got us to the Ricky Tick Brixton and back to Bucks with no further problem. We had a great time and many laughs with that van; I could go on, but I won't.
 3. A bit of advice given to me years ago...... "Rehearse p*ssed, perform p*ssed. Rehearse sober, play sober. The band must decide......." So, as we usually had to drive afterwards the answer was obvious.
 4.
I could always photo shop a bunch of stickers on there. Maybe a guitar Center sticker since that seems to be the absolute favorite store of everyone, lol
Yeah! - go on - do it, do it! I'd offer to do it but I ain't got a clue about manipulating piccies. I'll back you up as long as you take the stickies off before you post the bass to me for testing in the UK.
 5. Not too sure of the provenance on most of my odds'n'sods other than a well battered Fender tweed bass case that is stencilled as "Bass6" "Killer"; believe it was Killer's bassman's case and my MM Stingray which was once owned by Mother Earth's Neil Corcoran for a while. Like a lot of you I do wonder about what some of my gear has been through, particularly the 1931 National Triolian I am lucky enough to have.
 6. Re the pics: WOW! One of the bands I play in is doing a 1950s / 1960s gig in July and I've just got the set list and there are 3 Buddy Holly/Crickets numbers and about 6 Elvis numbers in there. So, just thinking, if you send the bass over to me here in the UK I can check it out, live and on-stage for free, to see if it still works OK for you by playing the sort of stuff it did in the olden days when touring. Sound like a good idea to you, 1SHOT?
 7. And thanks from me too. Great stuff.
 8. Glad to hear you're still alive and kicking, 1SHOT. Thanks for the mini update and I look forward to hearing the full monty. Keep playing that bass, y'hear?
 9. Mein Gott - I haff bin made redundant! http://www.bbc.co.uk...nology-17569427
 10. I Saw Her Standing There, Money, Ticket To Ride, Here Comes The Sun, Lucy In The Sky With Diamonds.
 11.
Me neither!
I have - he lives on the other side of the mirror in our bathroom. Didn't Ace Kefford use one on "Night of Fear"? That has some real growly, aggresive bass..... http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=_MlHiNrdFh0
 12.
Yeah absolutely, I plan on updating on both forums. Who knows, I don't want to keep bothering her though, so I'm trying to be patient ,,well as much as I can be anyway.
Thanks for the update 1SHOT, it's a great story and I'm bustin' to hear who the original bassman is. I've got an idea but I'm probably way off-beam. Anyway, in the meantime, keep playing that bass - you won't be able to bite your nails whilst your playing, will you?
 13. Gibson EB0 in GREEN! This was not my bass, but a mates back in High Wycombe1968/69 which I tried to rustle up the cash to buy and never made it. It was a standard SG type Gibson EB0 with one mudbucker and the finish was a stained emerald green with the wood grain showing through beautifully - think Rossi's Telecaster. I have never seen another in this colour before or since and if anyone has it or knows where it is, please let me know. Thank you.
 14.
It has definitely calmed down a lot thankfully, I know for certain at this point things will end good. What's best is that is so painfully opposite of what all the haters were hoping for. Shoot me a PM on TB and I'll send you a link to the update thread I'm hoping to start by Monday. I'm at the mercy of the family as of now still waiting to hear back on all the fine details. She said she has been very busy with work and just hasn't had time to sit down and write it out yet. Fingers crossed she'll write by Sunday night.
Can you post the same update on here as well, please? This is a great story and I'm running out of fingernails waiting for the next episode.
 15. Ampeg V4BH with 4x10 HLF Cab for the big'ns. Ampeg 115HPT for the little'ns. Sansamp BD if going straight into the PA. Works well for me.
 16. Thanks MM - you've pretty well described my real feelings exactly, I'm just not very good at expressing myself clearly with the written word. I just prefer live stuff with the band/performer bouncing off the vibes from the audience and modifying "on the fly" accordingly.
 17.
Aghh one contentious thread at a time! It's getting a bit too much... I know you've been picked up on this already, but I was wondering if you could explain you position on this a bit better than just this statement. What has made you think this? Are there examples?
It was something that was said to me years ago by an old school master when he was complaining about our amplified music - I just asked the question "it ain't music then, is it?" - not a statement.
 18.
Lots of ridiculous luddite arguments being presented but not my concern. I don`t have a problem with technology or machines playing "music". Sorry Kraftwerk,Depeche Mode,Rammstein,Faithless,Underworld, etc someone thinks you don`t make music because it`s not played on a Souzaphone... dear me. Thanks to those with practicaL help and advice (which is what I asked for, not an opinion on whether tracks were ethically justified). Strange how some musicians can be so conservative.... Perhaps next time someone asks about the right D B pickup for a Skiffle band I`ll offer an unasked for opinion on whether Skiffle bands are actually music, seeing as a washboard isn`t a real instrument like.... MM
Sorry MM, this was not an attempt on my part to hijack your post or insult you, just an attempt to open the discussion a bit and wonder if a further search for a keyboard player was justified. If I've come across as a comlete knob (I am one, I know) then I also apologise - I just do not like "techie machine" type music but I accept and support their right for the many others who do like it and play it.
 19.
Nah.... all that clicking from the washboard put me off
What about the Mississippi whistle that seemed to go round and round our heads?
 20.
Skiffle band I guess......
Were you in one too?
 21.
And I'm probably only a few years younger than you. Your attitude towards synthesisers and sequencers is exactly the same is my parent's attitude towards amplification, and in the end both are equally subjective and pointless.
BigRedX, I accept all that you say and believe, it is all subjective and pointless but I still do not like hi-tech, over produced synthetic "live" music / acts. Sorry.
 22.
Jumpers for Goalposts..........
Yeah and we played in the street until dark and ate worms and smoked cigarettes and we cut ourselves and mixed our blood to become bloodbrothers and had loadsa fun and we're still alive and gigging and smoking cigarettes and still having fun and being paid for playing live music.
 23.
Amplification in modern music is about far, far more than just making the instruments louder. No matter how many acoustic guitars we double up it's never going to sound the same as a single guitarist with a Les Paul through a Marshall amplifier even on a "clean" setting. Here's another question: Do you think the use of loopers (where you record part of your performance on the fly and then play along to it) any more "musically" acceptable than using a sequencer? IME the majority of the audience can't tell the difference and will assume that you're using a backing track. I'm a self-taught bass player too. I'm also a self-taught guitarist, keyboard player, synth and sequencer programmer. I like to keep my options and mind open when it comes to creating and playing music.
Never used a looper or played in a band that has used one I'm afraid, so I can't really comment, but are they really necessary or are they just complicating things in a live situation? I don't know. And, yup I'm an old git who started in the 60s, I play guitar and a lot of other things too but I just can't abide the synthetic, machined, highly digitized and produced stuff that's being pumped out today - just doesn't sound natural, is all.
