I think we need to be careful not to make this a witch hunt just because we know and love Darkglass equipment and 3Leaf has created a similar - not the same - pedal. It is clear that the B7/3k was the basis for the new pedal, but quite frankly I find it odd that variations on Muffs, 808s etc are perfectly acceptable but this is not. The soiled business relationship will have 2 sides and my 20 yrs in business (incl JVs gone wrong) tell me there will have been conduct on both sides that led to the split. Doug Castro will be a savy business man, not a saint as will Spencer. Really the discussion should be if we like the pedals or not, nothing more or less. IMO.

Gone: Mesa Boogie Powerhouse 610 Cab- £700
HazBeen replied to Old Horse Murphy's topic in Amps and Cabs For Sale
This setup can only sound massive...... Re-found an old love for Mesa bass amps recently so this is very tempting Nick, I am very happy there is not a chance in hell I could persuade the mrs to let me even access the savings account after my recent misadventures Will just have to make do with the Walkabout Scout and Venture and whimpy L212s... Lol Good price on both, the 4 ohm 610 I do not think I have seen on sale in Europe for a bit and the amp, well it's an all tube Mesa..... I have been able to try the Strategy, not and old school amp, but my word..... Super tone. -
You sell what people want to buy, so if you want to sell a phone with a Marshall brand you "push" the points that speak to the target audience so to speak. It's just business. Good luck to them, I'm just not the target audience clearly.

Marketing gone mad......

Mart just bought my old Dean 8 string, utterly smooth deal, top chap!

I can see how loyaltee for lack of a better word would cause this reaction. My almost 20 years in business also tells me there is - some would say unfortunately - only limited room for sentiments. It is either a very smart or a stupid move and only time will tell if the negative pr will die down. Sibob was spot on wrt non-copyrights so unless there was a breach in non-compete clauses Darkglass will have to swallow this one and just move on. Lower the unit price by $50 and nobody would even consider not buying a B3/7K. Until Mooer brings out a Micro version alonside XV, Fender and such @ $100......
-
Besides morals, ethics, taste, professional courtesy etc there are a lot of pedals both series and custom jobs that are variations of the same basic circuit. Lets face it the B3/7Ks sound great so it was only a matter of time before varations on those circuits would start coming out. Imitation is the best form of flattery and it is pretty standard practise within the industry really. Some people will stick with the original, some will want to try out something a bit different, the market will decide what happens.

HazBeen replied to Kev's topic in Build Diaries
Wow Kev, wouldn't mind a quiet evening with that gorgeous instrument. You could spend an evening going through all the tone options alone. Must admit a little Alpher GAS is starting to form..... -

Stuff it, I will not be purchasing (again) the MB Synth, it will be this.......... Even if it is only to get the DI prices down ... See original Bass Whammy prices lately? Starting to get sensible again....

We are still discussing based upon non scientific parameters, so this discussion could go on ad infinitum. I will be subbing a Metallica tribute on Friday, am "only" taking my Mesa Boogie Scout 15 combo. Puny @ 300 watts........ I will be loud enough for sure.

Smooth Hound Innovations Digital Wireless Guitar System

Still love mine! Great bit of kit for not a lot of money. -
Emotion and opinion vs science is always a danger, read what BFM posted please. The simple fact is that the volume difference between a 200 and 500w head through the same cab is almost negligible. It also does not do anything re cutting through a mix, that is about EQing and not power. So to answer the question: why do people buy 200 watt heads? Because in most settings they work as well as 500 and are cheaper is probably not far off.
-
Oh dear, another what is watt..... Volume and watt are a dangerous combination as it is very easy to start comparing apples with oranges. 200 watt RMS with an efficient cab will do fine in most settings. If we are talking full tube 200 watts with an efficient cab, this would melt your face.

Alpher Mako Elite five string - Warning: Buckeye Burl content
HazBeen replied to Kev's topic in Build Diaries
That is going to have a plethora of tonal options...... Wow. -
Bought this as a replacement pickup for my US P a few months back. Love the tone, you can find lots of rave reviews on the het. However, I have decided to turn the P I own into a PJ. Since you can't buy a single Geezer J I have gone daft and ordered a PJ set. So, I have a gently used few months old P pickup on offer for 2/3s the price of a new one. Comes with pots and such. http://www.thomann.de/gb/emg_gzr_p_geezer_butler_set.htm Price includes shipping within UK and Western EU.
