1. To me it looks weird. Love the hollow body, but the old style Tele neck, JJ/P and finish make it look unbalanced. Can think of a myriad of basses this money would buy....
2. I am pretty sure it is a Rob Armstrong, during this time he did not play much else as far as I am aware.
3. I have just bought a Custom Jazz 5 string, it has 19mm spacing and have been playing that for a few weeks only. I tried my M2500 yesterday (which has 17mm I believe) which was my main bass for the past 2 years or so and it felt so different (never noticed it before). I can now say I prefer the 19mm as it gives you a little more room to place your sausage fingers, but with practice all will work well enough. So, if 19mm is too much for you I would expect that if you go to lets say 17.5 you will notice the difference and will need to become a little more fluid in technique when slapping, but with practice it all works well enough.

TECAMP

I had a Puma 900, great amp. Sold when I decided switch mode power is not what I want. Still have 2 Tecamp L212s that I use with a GK RB1001 and/or 700. Love the tone, they are really light and tweeter control is very good. BUY I would suggest
5. I am not entirely sure of this, so lets start by checking BC interest. My 2012 Limited Edition Black Ice USA G&L M2500 has not been touched for a while now, passive (Jazz) basses seem to be my thing nowadays. It is a limited edition model with special finish: http://www.glguitars...ckIce-M2500.asp PICKUPS: 2 G&L MFD™ humbucking pickups BODY WOOD: 2-piece Swamp Ash FINISH: Nearly Naked™ (NENA) Black Ice NECK WOOD: Hard Rock Maple with Maple fingerboard NECK FINISH: Clear Satin NECK PROFILE: G&L #10 with 12" radius FRETS: Medium Jumbo TUNING KEYS: Custom G&L Ultra-Lite™ with aluminum tapered string posts BRIDGE: G&L Saddle Lock™ with chrome-plated brass saddles ELECTRONICS: G&L M-spec 18v preamp, volume, pan, 3-band boost/cut EQ with center detents The finish is extremely thin, it is a black body with silver grain. When I bought it I thought I would never sell so I had it customised. They added a Carbon truss rod for a more even neck feel (less dead spots) and more sustain and whilst at it changed fret board to Birdseye Maple adding a 21st fret. It doesn't look or sound much different to stock, but just has that little bit more than stock this way. The model was a limited run and is no longer available for purchase, apart from the odd one you may bump into every so often: http://en.euroguitar...500/154137.html The bass comes in a Protec Contego Soft case (same Mike Lull uses) or a Mono Sleeve. In an ideal world I would trade against a passive 4 string Jazz (AVRI or such) but I might consider a 4 string P as well as well as passive 5s. Selling is also an option. Price 850 GBP + shipping (cost varies greatly dependent on if I detach neck and ship with sleeve vs case etc). We could also meet in London area if we split my train ticket (cheaper than post). 6. Mornin' all! Whilst I am not in the habit of selling COG pedals on, they are just that good, I have decided to stick my Custom Knightfall + Darklighter pedal on BC. The reason it quite fickle but important, its footprint does not match the available space on my pedal board...... In essence it is a Darklighter with expanded EQ and a Knightfall with 3 clipping options (LED, MOSFET, SILICON) selected by the D switch. O switch reverses pedal order D>K into K>D. A very flexible OD/Distortion combination. Great as a 1 box dirt solution. It is in good condition with only minor scuffing, velcro on the bottom. Size is roughly the same (just under) as two Tech21 pedals side by side. Price: 100 GBP posted Trades: Try me
7. For sale the great (Bryan Beller anyone) Xotic BB Bass Preamp. Only selling because I prefer my BJFE Blueberry just that little bit more. In good condition, minor scuffs on pedal, full working order. Velcro on bottom and without original box I am afraid. 80 quid + shipping (a fiver for tracked shipping within Europe will do me). If you are looking for low gain dirt with good eq section this is well worth considering.

9. Top tip, if you set intonation use a tooth pick beneath the string, in essence creating a temporary fret, makes life a lot easier as you have use of 2 hands.
10. Sorted thanks to Liam (bartelby)! Liam thank you so much, you are a star.
11. That would be extremely cool of you. I just need tab for the more intricate songs, will PM. Thanks!
I have the tab books for: Kill Em All Ride The Lightning Master of Puppets Justice Black Album... I could scan some stuff...
12. I will be subbing for a couple of gigs in a Metallica tribute band soon so need to get cracking, does anyone have tips on decent tab for: Enter Sandman Where Ever I May Roam One Master Of Puppets Creeping Death The Unforgiven To Whom The Bell Tolls Whiskey In The Jar Sad But True Through The Never Holier Than Thou Struggle Within Nothing Else Matters Fade To Black Seek & Destroy Fuel Misery Most are pretty easy, but there are a few tricky ones. Thanks
13. That is very cheap indeed, my Polytune will undoubtedly be a little better built etc but for the money it seems difficult to ignore this little fella.
14. How can this still be here? Bump on me
15. Great amps, wouldn't be without mine.
16. So how was your day? I have owned approx 15-20 5 string JBs. Lets see: a Nordy, 3 Lulls (M5V and an M5), 2 Sadowsky (UV), 5 or so Fenders (tried hard to like them, never found one that was tight for me), 4 van der Ends (custom builder in Holland, great instruments), 2 de Gier (this is my second; first was Alder bodied) and maybe 1 or 2 I cannot remember. It ranks high in this list, for you to decide what you want to take from it. The total number of basses owned is not too relevant, if they were all very bad basses the number would not say anything about the quality of the instrument. It was not a recommendation, it was me being happy with a new bass. I will gladly make a recommendation though dependent on what you are looking for though. I see you like GBs, very good basses. A little 'hot' for my taste, but very good. Taste and opinion are one's own, I am a happy bunny.
Hmmm... you're not sure it's the one are you? 'Amongst' is a pretty hesitant recommendation... Clarify... if you've owned 100 5-string jazzers then that would be good but if you've owned, say three.... not good? Oh wait and only 'probably' amongst!?
17. Hi, I had Nordstrands in my other de Gier too. They are quite similar, i.e. reasonably "aggressive" or growly sounding when digging in, but the Lollars have more pronounced low mids. This is very handy if you have a naturally scooped tone due to wood selection (ash, maple) and want a little more balance. I felt I needed this due to the ash giving very powerful lows mainly and I wanted to ensure the sound would cut. An Alder body with Nordies will give a very similar tone, although I like the top end a little more in the Lollars, they seem smoother.... All this said the bass is so new, it still needs breaking in before I can really comment in full detail and for me they are both in the same general corner of the pickup spectrum and very close. One thing I really like about the Lollars is that they are a little more even across the strings, mainly due to the staggered pole pieces. One of the reasons I chose them, but Norstrand makes staggered pickups too now I believe. Very close call, I think in an Alder bodied bass I would probably have gone Nordies. For Ash bodies I am now a Lollar convert. Fralin and Aero (the two other options de Gier gives) I would not choose in any combo, but hey taste and all......
Nice! How do you like the Lollar pickups? I have Nordstrands in mine but I'm hesitating about Lollars or Aguilars.
18. Same here, wouldn't be without it. Yes it is a little bulky, like any double bag is, I walk with it regularly with 2 basses and a pedaltrain, absolutely fine. I used to own a Rockbag Double Bag, very good for the money but not close to the M80.
I've got the Mono (well, actually two of them) and although a little bulky, they're not significantly heavier than the single ones. Most of the weight is obviously down to the basses you carry, but the shoulder straps and padding make the gigbag relatively easy to carry around.
19. I owned the PJ5 version, really great bass (and one I still miss on occasion). Lull makes some stonking instruments. Nice!
20. Picked up my new De Gier Bebop 5 today. Haven't been able to put it down.... 5 string 2-tone burst Ash body Maple neck Rosewood fretboard Blocks and binding Lollar pickups Passive (switchable capacitor 0.047 and 0.22uF) with Vanderkley Fatboost Hipshot Ultra Lites Yummie! First impression is very positive indeed. I have owned several high end Jazz basses and this one is probably amongst the very best I have owned both in build quality and tone. Anyway, the neck is super comfortable, really thin but because it is quite wide it feels very solid. Love the banjo frets on it. I went a little "non standard" with my swamp ash body, together with the maple neck it gives it a certain thickness in the lows and clarity in the higher register that you do not always find in alder bodied instruments. The pickups but also Rosewood fretboard offset the natural scoop to give it a well rounded tone. Yeah to me
21. Wait was very doable too. De Gier builds in batches, I ordered it end of April but he did not start until early/mid June, so really just over a month to build. Over the years he has been able to automate some of the "coarse" work and that speeds things up. Paint and fine wood work is what takes the time. His full on custom one offs take more time I am sure.... Anyway, the neck is super comfortable, really thin but because it is quite wide it feels very solid. Love the banjo frets on it. I will make some sound clips in future as well. I went a little "non standard" with my swamp ash body, it gives it a certain thickness in the lows and clarity in the higher register that you do not find in alder bodied instruments. The reason I went for Lollars is because the offset the slight mid scoop the woods give. Aeros would have made it too woolly, Nordies too aggressive in the highs. Having spent an evening with my new friend, I have made the right choices for what I want. Another cool feature I have found and am playing around with: the tone know is push pull and selects between 2 capacitors the standard 0.47 uF (am I missing a 0?) and slightly less standard 0.22 uF. The difference is subtle, but when you roll back on treble the 0.22 is a little rounder, the 0.47 a little more muddy. Gives quite a different tone when palm muting. Cool little trick on what for all intents and purposes is a passive bass. Very very happy.
That looks lovely H, worth the wait I'm sure.
22. Will snap detailed pics over the weekend, but here's a few I took at pick up. It sounds incredible and build quality is as good as any Lull or Sadowsky I have owned. Wow.... Loving the black pick guard on 2 tone burst! I had quite a long chat with Sander, trying to persuade him to go to London Bass show next year. Who knows.....
