  1. Cr@p, I just listened to the demo tracks.....
  2. I just bought a Warwick LWA1000, special deal on Thomann. £275 for a 2 channel 1000w class A preamp powerhouse. Bargain!

Are these any good? There is the usual moaning on Talkbass about them - I had persuaded my friend to sell me his retired SVT 3 Pro for a good price, but looking into this it could be just what I need (I run a Royal Blood type  set-up, so the "fake guitar" could run through the second channel with different EQ to the Bass side - would save me carting two rigs around). Cant buy both sadly.

Interested to hear what you think! This should be a thread really!

  3. 2 things 1. I think I have hit the brief “it needs to be red” 2. I clearly had a hole in my glove..... 😂
  4. This time around I was the seller, Peter the buyer, but as always just an absolute gent and pleasure to deal with. Top class BC-er!
  5. To me it looks like the nut on the bass side (E) is not flush with the side of the neck, and there is some overhang of the nut on the treble side (G). If that is the case (I cannot 100% see it from the picture) I would try to reposition before thinking about replacing the nut.
  6. In my opinion you need to address the nut as that is causing the issue.
  7. I think I found your bass in another thread. Look at the nut. It looks as if the edge of the nut on the E string side does not reach the side of the neck, leaving a bigger distance string to side of fretboard on the E And the G string is closer to the edge. Is this correct? If so, I would make (or get) a new nut that is correctly made. Whilst I do not understand why you do not have a string retainer on a headstock without tilted headstock, I think the nut is causing the issue.
  8. Took this from your video, as you can see (unless perspective is a factor)that the G string is very close to the edge. But the string spacing is pretty even. To me this looks like a badly made nut, where they got string spacing right but where they did not centre it correctly. A picture of the nut would confirm.
  9. Heavier strings, or higher tension string should help. But this can only really happen if the string is to close to the side of the neck, maybe the nut is not correctly made. How many mm from the string to edge of fretboard? And do you have a picture of the nut?
  10. You are also pulling the string off the fretboard in the “buzzy” position. Maybe that is worth exploring.
  11. Sounds like a high fret to me... get something straight that can span 3 frets. Move 1 fret back everytime, starting from the nut. If it starts rocking you have found your high fret. I would guess it is setup or fret height going by the sound.
  12. Getting to where I want to be. Front and back veneer done, hole for the truss rod adjustment made, rough shape trussrod cover, all holes for wiring drilled (bridge/pickup), side jack hole (decided I like that more) drilled. Now for lot’s more sanding and then staining. I generally do now grainfill when I do a Tung finish as I never do colours and I use fine grit sandpaper to “massage” oil into the grain. Wonder what would happen if I didn’t grainfill this..... using red stain on this one....
  13. In all honesty I wish I had rounded where the veneer and back of neck meet instead of keeping it straight..... would have been nicer, but you live and learn.
  14. So the back veneer is on and “roughly” shaped and I remodeled the bit near the neck plate. Tomorrow I have a good few hours to work on the bass, so the front veneer is drying and I should get it to a point where I can slowly start thinking finish.

  16. I did the Crimson guitars thing, making the pickguard matt by sandpaper. Looks great I think. In any case, Zebrano control cavity cover and pickguard (just need to make the P pickup holes and sand the sides)... CHECK! Think it will look pretty sweet.
  17. If it doesn’t sell no issue. Great comp.
  18. TLC is a great company, Alex is so attentive and takes pride in providing customer service. I am sure it will be a pleasant experience.
  19. Barts sound great, I like their defined but woody characteristic. Funnily enough, I just took delivery of 2 EMG MM5CS that will be the heart of the 5 string I plan to start in a few weeks. I generally would use Barts.
  20. Wow, the woods you have chosen aren't the easiest to work with but so far it just looks fantastic. I am very impressed.
  21. I had my own mishap yesterday, also non-consequential as it will not be visible but it is always brown pants time when doing these types of things. I actually think that my mishap and perhaps yours was cause by the template used, maybe I am wrong but all big tickets issues I have had with a router was when using an Acrylic prefab template. Never when I made the template myself out of wood..... maybe coincidence, but I am not going to be using them anymore. Lovely looking build though mr A., proper job!
