Would that not narrow the string spacing too much? I really like the idea, and you re-notch the string slots, but you would lose several mms string spacing me thinks. EDIT: I actually think you wouldn't lose much at all looking at it more closely. Interesting.

So a little progress to report. 1. Sorted a bridge off this parish 2. Tweaked the body shape 3. Bought 2 pieces of Ash (swamp ash was sold out) 4. Found the Barts I knew I had somewhere 5. Started mocking up the layout 6. Bought an oscillating drum sanding machine as I am lazy It will be slow progress, but will provide updates when relevant. Have some design decisions to make..... suggestions welcome. The bass will be passive, as I prefer that on fretless. But pickups I am not 100% sure on. Adding some options below, I have 2 Bart soapbars and 2 Bart Jazz pickups. For some reason I am drawn towards 2 soapbars side by side .... crazy or not? Still like the shape I came up with, next job is to create some templates ..... And decide what I am doing pickup wise....

Yesterday we did a Nirvana set in support of a bar I have played a million times over the last 12 or so years with multiple bands. Clearly a live show on location was never going to happen at the moment, so we did a livestream from our studio using an iPad, 3 iPhones and a Shure MV88. This meant we could keep a decent amount of “social distance” as well, since our studio is pretty large. 2 iPhones for visuals, 1 iPhone with the MV88 stereo mic for audio and the iPad to receive all signals and stream to Facebook. A first for us all, and it was bizarre how well this setup worked. We streamed at 720p and 192kbps to ensure we didn’t have any issues. Next time we are upscaling and will add a signal from the mixer to just lift the vocals a little.... but from a mic in a room the result is pretty okay. In case you want to take a look, the stream starts 5 mins before the gig so skip that part, we were also a little rusty but that made it very Nirvana .... apologies for all the Dutch, but then I have lived here for far longer than the UK. Enjoy

Tonally Alder and Ash are quite similar, to me Ash bodies have a slightly more pronounced bottom and (often) top end. But given this is an active bass, the slight tonal difference is pretty irrelevant. Save some dosh, get the cheaper one

Noooooohhhhhh, glass and tendons and bass players = horror. Best of luck and get well soon. Unfortunately accidents can and do happen.

I think most will say, it is a key fundamental of music theory. Realistically I think you will automatically start understanding the circle of fifths once you start developing you knowledge of scales etc. Understanding the circle of fifths will make you understand the relation between music’s major keys and their relative minor keys. Can you do without understanding any music theory? In my opinion you can if you have a good ear. But I would advise anybody to put in the effort to practise and understand at least some theory, especially on chords and scales. Bass is the harmonic foundation of music and understanding what you do and where it fits in makes you a much better bass player.

Ah okay. That is not something that works for my needs, but I am aware that works. Good for laying down Taurus-esque notes a la Geddy.

Yes, to all. I have a keyboard with sequencer, midi Out into the MC6 (on the correct midi channel) and midi Out on MC6 to FI Midi In. FANTAAAAAAAAASTIC!
-
I am using a midi controller keyboard a lot with my FI nowadays, basically giving me best of both worlds. Anybody else doing that?
