  1. Exactly why I should never let myself be sucked into discussions like this. I don’t think you are really asking a question so will leave it at that I said the opposite to what you are suggesting.
  2. It helps for sure, but is not the full equation
  3. I think you are mixing up 2 things, frequency and EQ. The first is physics, the second a black art some might say. What I find is that sometimes cutting or boosting the area before or after a certain frequency has more impact than adjusting the actual frequency. For example, the jazz bass sound requires a boost in the 1100-1200Hz range to really make it pop .... again in my experience and opinion. There are many ways to achieve a good sound and pickup placement and scale (how flabby the string is) as well as EQ all work hand in hand. Dependent on what you have at your disposal some or all can help you achieve it. The EQ part is most challenging as it is bass, amp, fingers, room dependent.
  4. This. On all 34” scale basses with a P pickup in standard position you get a little mud. The issue is significantly less on 35” scale, and a little less when you invert the P pickup. But on all 34” PJs, dialing in between 30-50% back pickup gives the extra bite you need to cut. It is no coincidence Yamaha moved to the VVT setup on the current generation BBs. You could consider a VVT mod on the 1025 Bas, but you can also cut the mud a bit by careful EQing. The ratio low bass 80–120Hz to mid-bass 130Hz–200Hz is key here, generally on a P I boost around 80-100 and cut around 140-180Hz. The P thump lives in the low mids and mud is always just around the corner because of it.. But opinions are like GAS, everyone has them
  5. I love this bass, such a clean take on a fretless Jazz
  6. The Basses for Sale section says it is the best place to sell basses in Europe. Why are we even debating selling or buying outside UK, I must be missing something. For clarity I spent my youth in UK, living in NL for at least 35 years.
  7. Ray Wilson Band yesterday .... bass player was rocking a white Sadowsky (UV70 methinks).
  8. Very good basses, a bit too “nice” tonally for my liking. But undeniably good build quality and I love the neck. I preferred Lulls however and ended up buying those back in the day.
  9. I like 21 at minimum, 24 also fine or anything in between. On 20 fret basses back in the day I added a little block of wood so I could at least reach a (fretless) E.
  10. Show off
  11. No need to, old message. Price correct thx.
  12. Pls keep any trade offers strictly to PM
  13. Also did a rebuild and added full midi. Keeley Bassist mounted below (Markbass Tube Comp back in drawer, size) and the Tube Preamp now sits on top of the amp (if not using the Big Block).
  14. Bumpage!
  15. Sorry to hear that, seems pretty bad conduct on the part of the band, especially the drumtard. Us bass players are sensible and responsible folk, so I would suggest you offer to do the gig and give it your utmost, HOWEVER since it is now just business they need to give you half of the fee (or whatever makes you smile). That way you remain professional and your reputation even increases, but you screw them on the money. If they refuse to play ball, all they could complain about is that they could not afford you. My 2 p.
  16. Peter sold me his Morningstar MC6. As if Peter needs any more "vouching for", but all went well and comms were excellent. One of BC's finest.
  17. Missed out on what I wanted to buy, so back up to normal price.
  18. I do specifically state "In my book", but actually I meant it only in relation to other things on the bass (i.e. how does it sound, how does it play, neck feel, preamp/passive etc etc.)
  19. It is a question for the OP to ascertain if they need a B strong or not, not an opinion.
  20. Indeed the Boss, but it is not great on bass.
  21. It depends, you really can do a lot with a 4 and drop D tuning. After years of 5 and 6 string I find myself back on 4 80% of the time. How much of what you do musically really needs a B string? Only you can answer that. But even then, people are fickle so you may or may not end up selling on .... you sold several SR5s, so another SR5 will most likely also be sold. Perhaps a Smoothie is different enough to not undergo that “fate”. I do not want to get into the X amount of strings is better, but a good bassist can make magic happen on any amount of strings. In my book the number of strings is therefore less important than pretty much everything else,
  22. I have my eye on something .... but I have a limited timeframe to buy. So dropping to GBP 925 SHIPPED for the week or so or until the bass I am eyeing sells.
  23. Trade didn’t happen so back up
