  1. I own a Sparwick Streamer and a Wector NS.....
  2. On the bright side, clearly bass players care deeply for their instruments....... if only singers cared as much
  3. Ah the folly of bass players.... I am off to get a pint.
  4. Okay, can we all stop this now please? This is about the JH Warwick bass, not another Spector vs Warwick and certainly not does a Thumb neck dive yes or no thread. Come on guys.....
  5. I have basses with C, Modern C, D etc. shapes..... makes very little difference to me. Flatter/Thinner is a little faster, but I have never much worried about width, string spacing etc. String tension and string height I find much more important.
  6. Metallica? My love for them went sour very quickly post Kill 'Em All/Justice for All and I made the mistake to listen to Death Magnetic when it came out... Anyway, nothing to do with the vid, which is a good'n
  7. At least they are not isobaric, so yeah on that. It concerns me when cab builders do not list things like frequency handling. Looking at the size not sure how well they would handle a low B stand alone....... I think I can guess the answer.
  8. 1. yes I should be able to, but feel free to remind me if I forget 2. for me at least, pick gives me the extra sparkle fingers don’t 3. Big Nordy fan myself, growl on the SSBs (I think that is what they are called) is less for sure but price vs quality they are unbeatable almost. Very much in the EMG tonal region so not like Nordies at all. 4. passive tone gives me enough control and the double string setup is very rich already so for me I do not need the added control of a pre (I have an OBP3 plus passive setup in my 8 btw, always use passive), so the answer is I do not need it. 5. Set neck is a halfway house where the neck is glued in, like most Gibsons. Combines the punch of bolton with sustain of neckthru (but we could debate this and wood options ad infinitum)
  9. Some “random” comments 1. I finally have my Helix set up in a way that I can emulate my 8 string without feeling like a nob. It made my last PJ tribute gig a 2 bass affair instead of 3 which was handy given the lack of room in the van, still prefer taking the 8 when possible though 2. Plectrum over fingers for tonal reasons 3. Another solid EMG Hz alternative are the Seymour Duncan soapbars, very impressed with them 4. Passive over active for me on 8s 5. @Al Krow set neck is best
  10. I have a Hotone Xtomp, whlst it is a good pedal it is not like or as good as my Helix. I suspect this will be the same, close but no cigar. Still for not too much money this will be an interesting tool for bassists.
  11. So you agree.... unfortunately most of us are on a budget so need to decide what to best spend our cash on and we buy Dacias. But we like fat and trimmings so we get the 19” rims and audio upgrade. Bassists are just like real people.
  12. Yes, this will all end and we will all be playing cheap Yammies or Ibbies as their cheap series are really good. We will also all drive Dacias. No the fact that cheap brands make good pedals means that the mean average quality increases, boutique makers will still be responsible for all R&D and innovation that is then copied by the Behringers and Mooers of the world. If there is any threat, it will come from component bases modelling meaning DSP multis will sound as good as the original pedal. But like tube amps, there will be a niche for boutique I am sure. Lastly comparing a Cali to Spectracomp or a Sub n Up to a T16 to me suggests we are comparing oranges with bananas. Ask yourself the question: if budget and pedal board real estate was no issue, what would you buy? The Dacia? Really?
  13. There are actually a few fretless Dingwalls around as well so it has been done before. Very intruiging I must admit
  14. Holy cr@p, that is a bloomin good deal that.
  15. I would also just want to say that I hated SB with a vengeance back in the day.... not much has changed now.
  16. If it's not a 36x10 then it is not loud enough.
  17. Jeans shirts... ha ha, what about the cowboy boots ? I have pics of me looking rather similar
  18. A preamp I will never ever sell. Amazing pre and super flexible. GLWTS.
  19. 99% sure this is right, been a few years since installing but if memory serves me correct this is it. White is front hot for sure.
  20. I will give a tip: Even a bass with fretlines needs you to understand and adapt technique to hit the sweet spot. The line is 2mm, your finger is up to 2 cm wide so to be in tune means finding the correct spot for your finger to push the string against the fretboard. How meaty (the part of) your finger is, how you hold your fingers etc has an impact and you need to compensate accordingly. Use your ears for that. I find I am in tune when I have the edge of my pinkey on the fretline (boney) but that my index hits the spot when positioned with the fretline towards the middle of the finger (more meat). The great thing is that muscle memory does this adjusting for you so practise.... and it will come. 2nd tip: your bass setup needs to be right (unless you are Jaco) and for adjusting your bass’ intonation use a toothpick. It is as wide as your fretline, so if you create an artificial fret with the toothpick (slide it under the string) you can get intonation spot on.
