  1. Have you shielded the cavity? If so you may be shorting the jack input if it touches the shielding.
  2. I am truly intrigued about the scale size, apologies if this has been answered already: what is the main reason you have a 40” P and are building this even longer scale bass? Is it all due to down tuning?
  3. No, Status uses a very thick graphite bottom layer, 6-8mm thick. This provides enough stability to fix the neck, but hole diameter and counter sinking to prevent cracking is key.
  4. I would use a larger diameter bit to do that mate, you don’t want the 5mm to bite and widen the hole. An 8mm or special counter sink bit and just lightly take away a little material is best. Then, if the screw gets really tight do not force it. Maybe use the 5 to widen the hole, but I think you are fine with a 4.5mm.
  5. I just checked, for a 5mm screw I would use a 4.5mm bit. 4mm is too small and you may crack the neck.
  6. Especially the counter sunk bit is important. HSS metal bit also works well.
  7. Here goes http://www.status-graphite.com/status/pricelist/Neck-fitting.pdf
  8. I have installed Status necks before. You do not require inserts and you indeed use a slightly smaller drill bit than the screws. But you need to go slow and steady. I would start with 4mm but also have 4.5mm on hand. Let me see if I can find the original instructions for you, should have them still.
  9. I like the "And Justice for Jason" version Agree, this When Doves Cry is just horrid on so many levels.... ah well. I preferred Rob when he was playing on Jerry Cantrell's Degredation Trip album with Mike Bordin. Great tone there to, now it is more a bass fart than bass tone.
  10. I said I think he is a bit of a nob. Anyone who destroys an instrument for no reason at all to me is a bit nobbish. Why do it.. does it cure diseases, give you special insights into how it is built, does it sound better?
  11. That is one of my issues with new media, you have too many people earning too much money from “adolescent acts”, teaching our kids that it is better to make silly videos than go to university as silly vids make you more money. I think we also need to distinguish between money and sense. Having money does not mean you have sense.
  12. I think he is a bit of a nob...... like many YTers views are all that matter.
  13. I liked the Abyss in low gain mode, very similar to my BBBOD but more modern. Xotic BB is great as well, did not like the Hookers at all. Catalinbread SFT is also one to consider.
  14. feck me, this read wore me out.... rollercoaster central. fingers crossed!
  15. That does it, I am going into the setup business..... looking at providing set up services and clients can choose a scheme to suit their needs. For a tenner (aka the cotton scheme) I will look at your bass, frown, sigh with clear disdain and give half thruthful tips on what to do The gold scheme will be 75 quid (strings excluded) for which I will take your bass, bring it to Gary Mac who charges 35 and when back make you a cuppa whilst explaning how difficult it was to get your bass just right. oh dear............I am in one of those moods, apologies especially to Gary Mac
  16. That is where you would start, but a high action also comes from the bow in the neck and also how the neck sits in the neck pocket (it may need a shim).
  17. Then the solution is to add dots (luminlay possible) to the back of the fretlines.
  18. I had the same issue on my BB, solved by a black permanent marker (fine tip) on the maple.
  19. Agreed, give the man a fish etc. I have never paid for a setup nor will I ever.
