  1. After several years being P-less, early this year I needed a more classical sounding bass for a covers project. Ultimately I ended up trading basses with the rather wonderful Misowaki and got his '57 Precision. A great example of an AVRI if ever there was one. Since buying it I upgraded the pickup to a '62 Custom shop and added an Emerson wiring loom (oil cap) and Hipshot Classic bridge (original bridge included in the sale). It is now the mother of all AVRI P's. Full disclosure, when taking off the bridgecover I noticed the paint had chipped, so there is a 3x3mm chip around the screw. More mojo For the rest it is in the exact shape as the original pics in the thread below. I recently completed the conversion/mod of on of my Bogart Blackstones, added 2 Thunderbucker 66 pickups (see build thread if you are so inclined). That thing sounds incredible and the front pickup gives me a wonderful Precision tone, and as a self-confessed Bogart fanboy I have now decided I no longer need the P for my vintage tones, opening the door for more graphite or more cabs/amps in my life (or more money ). So ideally am looking to do a trade against something with a graphite neck, Mesa bass gear, Bergantino, TKS, Barefaced, perhaps another fretless .... another Bogart?? Well maybe 3 is enough. Anyway, open to trade offers. Also happy to sell outright. Price excludes shipping in a Hiscox case (original Fender one was not included when I got it), all the AVRI case candy is included (ashtrays/strap/lead etc). I have added more pics of the current setup.
  2. +1 on great sounding basses, I used to own a 4 string. Absolute joy to play and sounded great. Really good price.
  3. So yesterday I installed the pickups, pots, wiring etcetera for a test run. I actually do not have a clue how to wire a Thunderbird yet, so for now I did Jazz style wiring. Sounded pretty good already, although a bit noisy for my taste (unshielded as yet) and the tone pot (reused from a loom I had) has some issues so needs replacing by a new one. But on the whole it is safe to say this thing is going to be a tone monster. The front pickup is a bit further back than a true TB so it is a bit clearer, almost P like. The back pickup is “close to exact” and gives a nice mid bite. I will post final pics and some sound clips when all done. Whilst I am pretty comfortable with wiring/routing etc, the scratchplate was a concern. All worked out well (although I have a few small nitpicks as you would expect) so I am very happy....... on to the next one
  4. You can clearly see the polycarbonate shell, acoustic foam on quite a thin piece of wooden backbone in this picture.
  5. Sure no probs to snap some pics! The outer polycarbonate shell is about 3-4mm. I had assumed there was a wooden solid centre block, but I was routing in acoustic foam and polycarbonate mainly. This really surprised me Anyway, I decided to go with a straight knob layout to stay in the TB theme. Scratchplate finished, holes drilled so getting closer to completion. Since I made the pic I installed the pots etc. Forgot to buy pickguard screws and shielding so will need to buy that tomorrow. I’ll be fully done next weekend,
  6. Result! I convinced my mrs to take the kids out for the day so was able to make some progress. Routing done, scratchplate cut and routed but still needs some sanding/finishing/screw holes etc. Notice the control cavity (freehand route), the acoustic foam is clearly visible. Amazing stuff, it is incredibly dence and even behaves like wood when routing. Plastic is still on the scratchplate in case you are wondering why it looks “dirty”
  7. So am I..... routing this weekend if I find the time.
  8. Get it, must admit I was tempted by the Buster myself. The BB isn’t going anywhere in any case
  9. 3 ply black/w/bl. I am likely going to respray the body at some stage in Pelham Blue and the black fits that perfectly, whilst looking good on the current grey flake as well. Nothing wrong with an AC streamer
  10. Not much progress due to lack of time, but such is. Pickups have arrived at least. Scratchplate shape finalised and transferred onto MDF (twice, in case I mess up). No bandsaw unfortunately....
  11. I have a similar ESP/LTD (well fretted 8 string) amazing quality to price ratio, this bass will be no different and good seller to deal with too.
  12. Fair comment, but I would be interested in something that fits my needs (as will most), so you will surely need 50 interested people as you will likely lose up to 75% of interested people when speccing the bass/design.
  13. I’d be interested potentially, short scale solid body (check out this Serek for inspiration): https://www.serekbasses.com/sacramento
  14. Bump for a great guy and amp (and yes I am biased).
  15. Ooh, someone had Ready Brek for breakfast today......yes, indeed no Q control so it is a semi.
  16. Same here.....
  17. It is essentially the M80 minus the overdrive/clean blend/parallel out etc but plus the parametric mids. Great little preamp.
  18. This exactly......
  19. I think that would indeed work, although the LT does not have a FX Loop 3 and 4 like the full fat version so depends on what else you do with the loops (i.e. do you have any effects in them).
  20. Toothpaste works really well, the simple white non gel version! A little on a clean damp cloth, apply thin layer, then rub off with clean dry cloth and presto.
  21. I will post some of my “sock only” pics
  22. This was my original plan as well! But BC would not let me mutilate my AVRI..... (just kidding). Very nice!
  23. Only if you let me try the install on your Lull first
  24. I may change my mind still, but after a little tweaking I think it looks very “natural”. Time will tell. Now for the bloomin’ pickups to arrive...
  25. 1st pickup template done, I am pretty happy with the design although will tweak the top curve to better follow the body.
