  1. This is not so much of a build thread YET as I am waiting on components, but I am hoping to get some of your views on this. So I have this rather lovely AVRI 57 Precision, Blond finish, Ash body, maple neck. All the Ps I ever owned ended up as a PJ and after some initial hesitation (this would be the first AVRI I mod) I decided to do the mod. Then I saw a video of Pino with a Precision with Thunderbird pickups, similar to a Lull PT4. He used it for the Who and d’Angelo. See halftime SuperBowl sho 2010 with the Who for example. So I have decided to increase the scope of the mod quite a bit, I will be turning my Fender into a Fender PT4! Pic of Pino’s attached, he has the pickups in Thunderbird position, I may be going for the Lull approach, i.e. Neck pickup in P location and Bridge pickup in Jazz (60s) position. I don’t have copious amounts of time, but who cares right? Stuff to do: - Create new router template for the T pickups, I am going full size (covering most of the body) as I will be routing a nitro body and do not want to damage the finish - Route the pickup cavities - use the existing scratchplate to create a template with T pickup hole - make the new scratchplate - make a side input jack OR (not totally sure what I prefer yet) enlarge cavity for an additional pot (keeping jack input where it is) - redo wiring (500k volumes, 250k tone with Orange drop) I will take pictures and post them, but it will take a few weeks before I have all parts I need. So that gives me time to ask some questions/input. 1. Is what I am doing blasphemy? Not that I mind btw, but good to get some opinions 2. Does routing in a nitro finish raise any specific concerns? 3. Side or front jack? 4. When routing I generally use double sided tape to stick the template onto the body, any thoughts on if this could damage the finish? 5. Tort or black scratchplate? I am leaning towards black for some reason 6. TB (as Pino’s) or PJ pickup (as a Lull) placement? Thanks all, looking forward to this build and appreciate any input you want to give. Haz
  2. Based on the compressor plus, so not great for bass.
  3. It is important to understand which compressor is on board, the classic 3 and 4 knob Keeleys aren’t the best on bass, if it is based on the GC2/Bassist it could work well. Wouldn’t be the first time NoTreble gets it wrong and posts what is “only” a guitar pedal. Anyone know what the deal is here?
  4. I am a Dunlop man myself, but in my 30 years of gigging have not heard about any issues from people that use Schallers. What has been upgraded?
  5. I own the BB and a D800. The D800 is a great amp, but is has nothing on the BB. For 550 quid this is just a stupendously good deal.
  6. I am not sure if you or the BC community are crazy :), a full fat Helix for less than 800 quid. If not for the simple fact that I do not need amp sims etc I would have had this when it was significantly more expensive. I have been VERY much an analogue guy for ever, the Helix made me a believer. It is that good.
  7. As said before I own both, the HX is a significant step up from the B3n but the Zoom is perfectly acceptable for most applications. But I am still happy I took the plunge. HX or Helix will only get better with every release, B3n is what it is and the overal quality, UI, routing options, flexibility and gigability (did I just create a new word?) of the Helix in whatever guise simply are far beyond the Zoom offering.
  8. I use the Mutant Filter (the Mutron) in a parallel loop set up with a Crossover at 80Hz
  9. I generally use the DI on my Subway Pedal (rather good) and always have a Radial JDI with me as backup which has a Jenson transformer so most sound engineers are happy enough. Hardle ever use the onboard DI on my Mesa BB750, but to be fair it is very solid too.
  10. For my use the filter is perfectly acceptable, but that may be because I use filter for texture/bite and not so much full quack (if that makes sense). I don’t do funk... also the 3 band compressor I find to be very good, I think @dood may agree, I certainly would not need a bass compressor added, but as I have said many times horses for courses.
  11. Well mainly because I already owned them and really like them so never felt I needed to change a winning formula. The HX is my pedalboard control center and I use the built in modulation, filter, compressor and delays mostly, as well as the B7K model. I do have a good low gain drive I use instead of the BBBO on occasion.
  12. I control 2 loops thru the HX, 1 with dirt pedal BBBO and Duality and loop 2 has an FI and T65
  13. See my amended post, a Future Impact
  14. I use a COG T65 for my octave sounds and a Future Impact for my synths so never tried the built in ones really. Probably not the right person to answer therefore.
  15. I need to own an Attitude at some stage, but this is not the time..... GLWTS, lovely bass
  16. He called me, but I can’t make it unfortunately.
  17. This bass sounds and plays great and deal with Andrew in full confidence, a true gent.
  18. Remind me why are we even discussing this?
  19. So I have had my Tecamp L212s for quite a few years (2012 I think) and they have worked flawlessly. L212, 8 ohm, 600w RMS handling per cab, 34Hz-19kHz so can deal with pretty much any tuning/number of string and at 23kg a piece they are stupidly light (but they are BIG). Both have the original Tecamp cover, although the zipper on one has died. Cosmetically obviously the cabs have marks, they have been used, but nothing huge (just quite a few smaller scrapes and tears as you would expect from a cab that gets gigged). Anyway, these cabs may well stay with me until I retire but since they are still in decent nick I just want to see if there is anyone out there that is interested in a trade against a 610. I always regretted selling my 610, so maybe we can strike a deal.. also interested in other 10” driver variations. Think Mesa, Berg etc. I won’t keep this thread open for too long, just a feeler and if there are no bites I would not mind at all. Would also sell as a pair for 1000 o.n.o. plus we need to work out logistics (probably plan to deliver in NE England or North of France.
  20. Wembley Stadium, love playing there...... now just to make it happen
  21. +1, although I did not have the isse with lost E on my poly. But for bassists the Uni is more than fine and costs less.
  22. Spot on assessment, I use an M80 single and double that have been faultless for years. The Vertigo is a great bag, although much less room for cables etc. I also on a Sleeve which I like, but it is not at the level of the M80.
