1. I do a lot of singing in my band, not the lead but I provide all 2nd vocalist parts. We only do originals though. My former band was a '90s rock cover outfit, lots of fun and I had a blast in singing things from Foo Fighters, Alice in Chains, Pearl Jam, Nirvana, Soundgarden, Faith no More etc. A lot to like from that ERA in my opinion.
2. Start with the current pickups, then if not happy try others.... like the EMG Geezers But a J Tone being a good match for a PJ? I would ask John East what he thinks, he generally is really open about what in his opinion is a good match.
3. Personally I think adding a pre to a bass that you don't like the tone of makes little sense. Especially a Glockenklang pre, as it is an immensly transparant pre and will in essence give you more of what is in there already. Changing pickups can achieve more, I would recommend the EMG Geezer PJ set. It made a very boring Fender come to life and transform into a great sounding PJ. Orange drop, CTS pots, switchcraft jack and hey ho. IMO
4. We just completed a super easy transaction, Lee is a top chap and highly recommended.
5. Ian bought a pedal off me, super easy transaction and quick payment. Highly recommended.
6. Just don't buy..... problem solved.
7.
I would say a good comparison, pedal wise, perhaps so not high gain, would be the Tech 21 gear. Quite a lot cheaper. I've had a pop at Aguilar as the prices went exceptionally high. Something like £700 for ONE 1x12 DB112! I paid £600 new for a DB212! Those prices are before and after middleman distributors. If these new DG cabs are made here, why on earth are they incredibly expensive? The Aguilar SL410 is crazy money but it is light and it's imported from the USA. At these prices, BERGANTINO every time.
Bergantino, great gear.
8.
I certainly wouldn't shoot you down... I think it's exactly the way Darkglass market stuff. Sure amps, cabs and pedals aren't exactly lifestyle products (no really!), but they big up all the aesthetic qualities of the product and most reviews mention how good they look. Can't deny they're great looking products, but again you're paying through the nose so they'd better be.

Admittedly I haven't been through all of the responses on here, but on the recent thread discussing the new iPhone and it's relative cost, I made the point that non-musicians get GAS too, for the latest iPhone / TV / Games Console etc. Basically I was saying that Apple releasing a new iPhone and the so-called 'sheep' queueing around the block for it were no different than Bass players who have a favourite brand 'queueing around the block' for the latest offering from Fender / Darkglass / Insert your favourite manufacturer here'. There were various responses saying how you can't compare Basses / Amps to iPhones, and I was essentially shot down in flames. Fine, it's an open forum and I'm perfectly willing & happy to listen to others points of view. So here we now have a thread where Bass players are justifying the cost of the new Darkglass cabs by comparing them to how Apple (amongst others) market and sell their products. You couldn't make it up!
I think the Apple comparison was totally justified and it is more than coincidence the M900 looks like an iPhone (well sort of). But there is no denying that iPhones and an M900 are really good products, form can never overcome major flaws in function. And on the other hand a great product can look like a dog's backside and still build a good reputation (Markbass for instance). Bottom line: if you don't like DG don't buy their stuff and of you do accept you are buying an iPhone esque product. No need for overly strong rhetoric either way you'd think.
9. You forget the Markbasss is FUGLY as hell Al... Being based in Europe (Euro country) and having tried just about every drive pedal in this world personally I think Darkglass makes some great sounding, incredibly well built equipment. I love my M900 (and I generally hate D class amps), I love my Alpha Omega (which has replaced a B7K) and I love my Duality Fuzz. I use them all the time and hold their value quite favourably too if I would sell. The cabs I am not overly sure of, nothing special that's for sure, but I am not so sure what the issue is.... Apple does it, BMW/AUDI/VOLVO etc etc do it, i.e. selling stuff for more just because they can. Succesful branding = tapping into buyers emotions, if the emotion is good enough products sell. And what DG does really is not exceptionally naughty, if I was Doug I would do the same.
10.
Stunning!! That's quite something, GLWTS
Agreed, love the old Sabres.
11. Cleaning up my "not being used" box. For sale the following: Hotone XTomp, incredible full metal DSP pedal that can be anything from an EQ to a filter to a Noisegate pedal. Good as new, comes with box and all original content. You upload fx to the XTomp via an app on your phone. Great pedal if you have limited space and want several pedals in one. I found it vastly superior and easier to control than the Zoom equivalent (but for the price the Zoom is awesome). £150 shipped Hotone Basspress, in very very good nick, very small footprint, can be expression, wah and volume pedal. With box. SOLD! MXR Bass Envelope Filter, in very good nick, comes with box. No need to elaborate on this great pedal right? £95 shipped COG Custom design T65, best Octave pedal on the market. Only selling as I also have a T16 and I can do without the octave up on the T65. SOLD! TC Polytune Mini Noir, great and accurate small tuner pedal. Comes with box. Used but still in very decent nick. SOLD! Korg Mini Kaoss Pad 2, excellent fx processor that you can use for bass, voice etc. In excellent condition, comes with EU adapter and with box. £75 shipped Rolls PM351 Personal Monitor, great bit of kit that can be used to mix/monitor voice, instrument and line. In used but good nick, comes with 15v EU adapter. £80 shipped XVive ABY pedal, no nonsense pedal switcher in mini size. Used condition. I used it to switch between basses. £25 shipped Pics: https://www.dropbox.com/sh/hnx79gtjwjt006v/AADRRQqQIaFDr_iojwT0V5Vza?dl=0

Pedal Board Blues

How close are you to your amp on stage? If you are within 6 feet you will miss some sonic content makng the higher frequencies stand out. I generally double check my fx sound from 20 feet away. Clearly this does not apply when you use in-ear and go direct FOH but worth considering. And check at full gigging volume as mentioned before.
14. Wow, that is a great price...... GAS only just controlled.
15. Guitar Sound Systems do a cracking 600w power amp. ISP do the Stealth @180w. Quilter does the Toneblock @ 200w, Bose does the PackLite @ 250w If you do no want your bass to sound like a car stereo, don't take your suggestion any further.....
16. The real issue here is that people in general do not read due to lack of attention span and it is too easy to react to something (push of button/email). An unfortunate side effect of "progress". Musicians who never gig can be famous on Youtube and presidents can run a country by Tweet..... supposedly.
17. It happens mate, perhaps a Tech21 XXL would do the trick for you. Worth checking some vids. Not sure if they still make them though.
After using it for a recent recording a couple of days ago, me and the producer struggled to get a tone anywhere near to the Glassjaw tone, so we had to resort to Logic plug-ins to get the right tone. I've noticed across the DG pedal range they all share a similar core tone which seems very mid-rangey and have a slight fizziness to them which I know some love, but for me it stuck out too much on the recording no matter how we tried to tame it. I've read in the Alpha/Omega thread that there are those who the DG tone just doesn't work for and I might be one of them. I was recommended a Sansamp after I was shown quite a few recordings of a friend using his, which to my ear sounded more right for me.
18. Indeed B7K, but the AO will get you very close with the right settings. Personally I question the need to trade the AO.
19. I am envious of everyone that owns the Noble, I have an Avalon and JDI that are great and I never thought I would find something I like more, but then used the Noble once and have been secretly lusting for one ever since.
20. My standard line, had this for ages dear, never seen it?
