1. It happens mate, perhaps a Tech21 XXL would do the trick for you. Worth checking some vids. Not sure if they still make them though.
After using it for a recent recording a couple of days ago, me and the producer struggled to get a tone anywhere near to the Glassjaw tone, so we had to resort to Logic plug-ins to get the right tone. I've noticed across the DG pedal range they all share a similar core tone which seems very mid-rangey and have a slight fizziness to them which I know some love, but for me it stuck out too much on the recording no matter how we tried to tame it. I've read in the Alpha/Omega thread that there are those who the DG tone just doesn't work for and I might be one of them. I was recommended a Sansamp after I was shown quite a few recordings of a friend using his, which to my ear sounded more right for me.
2. Indeed B7K, but the AO will get you very close with the right settings. Personally I question the need to trade the AO.
3. I am envious of everyone that owns the Noble, I have an Avalon and JDI that are great and I never thought I would find something I like more, but then used the Noble once and have been secretly lusting for one ever since.
4. My standard line, had this for ages dear, never seen it?
5. I once encountered a very drunk Jools Holland trying to chat up my girlfriend, he had no chance..... but I still enjoyed watching him try his little best.
6. This will undoubtedly sound good, and indeed an Ultra must be in the makings. Then a new D class amp with a VMT/B7K/AO switch called the M901
7. I struggling enough not picking up on what my kids like..... seems I can pretty much sing all the bloomin' lyrics.... and they're 3 and 5!
8. You're doomed, face it
9. It doesn't play well, but looks cool:
10. Really looking good!
11. I had a cream white one as my 1st bass. Basically it was the only one in the shop I could afford, it was really cheap..... played well though, fond memories of learning to play the bass on it.
12. Nice!
13. Surprisingly nice!
14. You know you want to , this entire topic is an elaborate plot to talk yourself into buying one ..... lol
15. Why did the bassist cross the road? 'Cause The soundman said he needed a cross over........
16. I use a laptop 19v external battery to power by PJB DoubleFour. It is surprisingly loud, and I get about 2/3 hours from a charge, if you would have 2 and switch half way through the set you would be fine....??
17.
I don't like the look of single cut basses, but if I found one which played like no other and I had to have it in my life, then I would see beyond the look of it. Me, I like yellow speakers, and yes, the new EVO1 head is amazing - everyone should try it..! so much so that its pretty much sold out in the UK at the moment....
I think I may have found my Single Cut
18.
Can I be the first to say I'm not bi-curious?
Oh dear....
19.
With the new mark bass evo 1 I can put 2 amps into 1 speaker. Not traditional bi amping as such, but setting one amp clean and one driven helps keep the low end present.
I have just seen this, great dual amping idea, the 2 xlr outs actually send a true dual amp signal to FOH. Perfect for larger applications, the speaker out is indeed a single mixdown of the 2 signals. Pretty cool.
20.
Hah - about time! Besides you have never fessed to what you actually think is a good looking bit of kit? The Markbass AC 121 Lite is still the best combo for < £1K bar none.
Ha ha! I did fess up, I like Mesa's designs (not all of them)...
21. Look what I found!
22.
Bi-amping can work very well when done right, but where most bass rigs are concerned it's done wrong. The wrong way is using full range bass cabs for both amps. The right way is with an electronic crossover that sends the lows to a dedicated low frequency cab, say a 1x18 or 2x15, the mids and highs to a dedicated midrange/HF cab, loaded with six or eight inch midrange drivers. A variation is using a bass amp and bass cab for the lows and clean mids, a guitar combo for overdriven tones, but that's not bi-amping, it's dual amping.
I was hoping you'd chip in BFM. Back in the day I did a bastardised version of what you suggest, as I split my signal, then used a crossover into an amp driving an SWR 410 (with tweeter off) for the lows and another driving an old Peavey 215 (no tweeter) for the highs+fx. For some reason that sounded better/more musical to me. I think I might have stolen the idea off switching the 410/215 from Billy Sheehan. Without going into too much detail, I tried some crossover trickery on my full range cabs today and it sounded awful, your comments on full range thus reaffirm my findings. What if I turn the tweeter off on one and the tweeter on full whack n the other.... hmmm.... On a different note, remember the Trace 1x18, 410 and hi-box 4x5 set-ups of back in the day? Back breakers that sounded great
23. Okay, I have been trying to ignore MB because without exception their stuff is FUGLY, but I have to say the premise behind this makes me very very interested. Great price and too....... hmm
