1. I'll be there on Sunday, gigging on Saturday. Graham
2.
It's such a shame about these amps having what appears to be a smoke generator inside. Assuming it's new-ish, I'd thought Ampeg had fixed the earlier reported faults of cutting out with later revisions. Maybe they just replaced it with smoke. Anyway, if you like the Ampeg sound how about moving up to the PF800 which might hopefully be properly sorted: although it's pretty new on the market I have read a couple of favourable user reviews, and no negative
No probs with my PF800, love it!
3. Have just posted in "new Ampeg" thread above, Am very happy with my PF800 and a pair of 210 Pro Neos. Very portable.
4. No probs with my PF800, my back loves it too! Agree that the 410HLF is a super cabinet too, but too heavy for me now, so I'm pairing the PF with a pair of Ampeg 210 Pro Neos, highly recommended.
5. A bargain folks!
6. Hi, I've just traded my Roscoe Beck V for a very clean, and well set up De Luxe Precision V with David of Cotswold Bass Guitars, just this week. I decided to go to his home, which is also his showroom at the moment near Stroud to make the exchange, and couldn't have been made to feel more welcome. A very unhurried and pleasant deal. He has some really nice stock at the moment, which are very well set up. I have no problems recommending him at all, although if you decide to visit, you will definitely need a good sat nav!! I have no connection with him by the way. Graham
7. Just a few five eggs here, I live on a speedhumped road which is also a rat run to avoid traffic lights. Every single courier firm speeds down here, totally ignoring the speed humps and one can hear the parcels landing a second or so after they ground their sumps. Current record breaker is a UKMail driver who was heard to shout "yee haaa" whilst fully airborne! Surely a market for a new company to exploit the failings of all the others? Graham
8. Same colour as mine but in a more original state. No probs stringing B to G if anyone is wondering. This is worth every penny of the original asking price, good luck with the sale. Graham
9. Fred was a great guy to deal with. He bought a Fender Bass V pickup from me recently as was very patient with me going on two weeks holiday mid deal. Great communicator (by phone from Holland). I was very interested to hear that he builds multi stringed basses - check out his posts on youtube under 18 string bass - amazing!
10. As with all of the above, Mike is a great guy to deal with. Have just sold him my treasured Roscoe and the deal couldn't have gone smoother. Great communication, super fast bank transfer - just how it should be. Would have no hesitation buying or selling again. Thanks Mike.
11.
I think I've owned a couple of rare'uns: 1983 Fender Walnut Elite II - I bought it in Santa Monica. It now resides in Texas: 1981 Fender Walnut Precision Special - first version: Absolute tone monster. Bought in Germany, now with a BC'er: Roscoe Beck IV in sunburst and Maple - I'm not aware of another this colour in the UK. Currently resides with me :-) :
Hi, I've got a sunburst 5 er RB, bought from Adey on here this year.
12. Thanks for the compliments fellas. I've had a few enquiries and most want further details of the bass, so here goes! It was invoiced to me by Guitar Villa as a Roscoe LG3005 in wood with steel strings, so not much help there then! My guess is swamp ash for the body which was/is a common wood for KR to use, see pic below. The fingerboard is either all purpleheart, paduk or cocobola, again, see detail below. Weight is around 9.75 lbs on my bathroom scales. Colour is Roscoe standard cordovan. Nut width 45mm, 12th fret 65mm. String spacing at bridge is standard Roscoe 18.3mm. I'm not sure if Roscoe keep a register of all of their guitars (very few are identical), but if it's an issue I'll e mail them to see if they do. Their current website is not all that helpful. Again, I'm not looking for trades as I still have nine basses (almost as many as we have gigs in a year!). Reluctantly I would ship in the UK for the same price, although, as stated, I'd rather have a face to face deal. Further afield would be at buyer's cost. Thanks again for looking, and the comments so far! Graham
13. Sorry mtroun, liver might be a help, and I've just sold a Stingray (reducing my collection)
14. Certainly Kev!
15. Hi, well, the time has come for me to part with my best bass. I purchased this new from Guitar Villa in Pennsylvania in 2005 and it has seen very little use since then. Basically it's such a nice bass I've been loathe to gig it. Hopefully the pics speak for themselves. It is in excellent condition, I cannot find a mark anywhere on it, no buckle rash or slapping swirl. It is un modified with standard Bartolini pick ups and pre amp and sounds great, almost any sound you want is in this bass. The maple burl is in my opinion amazing. It comes with the Roscoe case in the pics. Any questions please ask, but I don't have - or know how to - do sound clips, just check Youtube, there are far better players than me on there playing these. I am looking for a straight sale as I am trying to cut down my little bass collection, am in Bournemouth, and would prefer a face to face deal rather than ship this beauty. Don't mind a reasonable journey to do the deal, the price above is my lowest, and I think is a very fair price for this bass. My feedback is in the feedback section under "graham1945" Thanks for looking, Graham
16. Been using a PF800 for a few weeks now and really like it. Found I need to cut the output on the guitar to get best results. I love the weight, which really was the main reason for purchasing. I'm using it with two pro neo 2 x 10's. Graham
17. Only got round to watching this the other night, what a great history lesson. OK so I'm an oldie, but can't recommend it enough to show where we all came from. Anyone else see it? Graham
18. Not mentioned here is the Modulus Flea 5, it's the narrowest of the ten I have, and plays itself.
19. Hi, mine's a 600...... number and it's a 1966. The number in the ad above isn't all that clear (the 6 looks a bit rusted) and should be a 600.....? There are pics of mine somewhere else on here, and if someone offered me 15,000 euros for mine, I'd bite their hand off!!!!! I don't think even Fender know how many they made, because in the end they started cutting up the bodies and knecks for use on other models, ie, they didn't sell. I thought that they were in the catalogue for only three years from 1965. Bought mine in 1972 and still love it and use it regularly, although slightly modded (pickups).
20. Welcome to the Bonnie Raitt fan club!! First time I saw her was on the 70's Whistle Test with just Freebo on fretless Jazz bass - stunning! Been in love ever since. I may be wrong, but were the bass and drums from the Jools Holland Band? As stated above, bass is usually James "Hutch" Hutchinson, Ricky Fataar drums, and of course George Marinelli on guitars. Recommended for the band alone, but Bonnie is the icing on the cake!
21. Just an update on my original query, I've just bought one of the new Ampeg PF800 amps and in the manual it specifically states that it can be run without loudspeakers connected - (for practice purposes using the headphone and music input sockets). Thanks Ampeg, very helpful, along with all of the advice in this thread.
22.
Oh yes, of course. But, to explain what I thought when I was lent one for a tour: Stupidly heavy old technology but without actual tubes. Adding to the weight was basically half an empty shell making it looking like an SVT. Underpowered. Compared to my ex Trace 400 SMX 400 watt, it was seriously quiet even with the mid boosted a heck of a lot. Huge, for no reason. Poor EQ. Compared to the modern, extremely portable/light/loud micros, there is no point in it. If you want an SVT, this doesn't sound like one.
Just to balance this up a bit, as I suspect that potential buyers might read this thread when considering what NOT to buy. I agree that the SVT 450H is heavy (which is why I'm awaiting delivery of a PF800 to arrive at my doorstep this very moment), but I've never had a problem with mine, which I've owned for around ten years. I play medium size hall sized venues, as well as large pubs, and always cut through the mix of a nine piece soul band, without going through the in house pa. This at well below half volume, so, for the run of the mill venue, there is ample volume in my opinion. The nine band equalizer has always given me bags of tonal variation. Agreed the case doesn't need to be so big, but I suspect Ampeg are using the same case for more than one amplifier? The added weight of the timber in the lower half is negligible. It can be viewed as a poor man's SVT valved, but we can't all afford that sort of kit, nor want the expense of replacing valves every now and then. This, in my opinion, is a great value entry into the Ampeg dream (at around £300/£350 for a good used one). By the way, I don't work for Ampeg!! Fair comments by Musicman 20 on his own experience, just thought I'd give another opinion of a longer term user. "what's the worst amp you have owned, or had the luck to use" Surely not? Graham
23.
I think I want a funk5? Can we see a picture of it just for the pornographic nature!?
Something like this one? As above, probably worth around £1,200 on a good day.
24. OK, just to keep the thread going of course! This is what a 68 year old bloke looks like, still enjoying it after fifty years of gigging. Plus one from 1965.
