1. I got my first bass in 1994 and I've only just introduced ghost notes into my play. It's all about playing live for me. Bass in a band sets the 'feeling' of the tune IMO. If you get can get that right it doesn't matter what your chops are like.
2. I've got the rumble 500 head and a rumble v2 1x12 cabinet. I really only use it for stage monitoring but it sounds great to me and I can always hear myself. The cab is rated at 250w. They do a v3 1x12 now that looks, and may sound, better than the v2. Not sure how much all that would cost.
3. I rest my thumb on the E string too. I find it useful for muting.
4.
I never knew that Eeyore did bass repair work.
Haha, I've seen quite a few of his videos. He's quite funny in some.
5. I quite like the look of Rick basses. Especially the 4005. Anyhow, never played one but found this interesting. not sure how accurate. http://youtu.be/nR--0QSLQPg
6. Had a black one of these. Mine was strung with TI flats. Sounded ace. Great bass.
7.
I see where your coming from, not sure paintings are the best support or comparison for your case. I don't know how, but I'm going to make it to Liverpool before my time is up. Blue
What are you unsure about exactly? and what is the point in going to Liverpool - It's 2015! Will they still get the Beatles in Liverpool?
8.
Along with 70 million viewers I saw McCartney for the first time live on American TV February 9th, 1964. I made my mind up that night I was going to play bass guitar. Paul McCartney has IMO a great melodic style that's useful across the board. I would say, you won't go wrong listening to any of his work. It won't be easy as I would think your to young to get what The Beatles were about. Blue
If people don't get stuff because they weren't alive to see / hear it first time around, how come painting by the old masters sell for so much - are they being snapped up by 200 year olds?
9. Great stuff! Top tip: whenever I make a mistake I shift the blame immediately by frowning at the drummer and shake my head in disgust.
10. I've got one of these. http://www.gear4music.com/Guitar-and-Bass/SubZero-V15B-Vintage-15W-Bass-Combo-Amp/B7P. I quite like practicing plugged in and this combo ticks that box. Sound quality is what you'd expect for £40 but I like it.
11. Never seen a tuner flipped like that before.
12. In that case, I heavily relic'd a VW Golf on the M62 in 2007. Still miss that car.
13. Start looking now. Could take a while to find a band you want to join
14. KiOgon made a wiring loom for me. Great advice and great quality.
15. This is what I did. I liked the original white one but fancied a change. [Edit] I think I will change it out for a blue pearloid one this year. Kinda like a blue pino
16. Thanks Neil, I was tempted to take my other p bass as it was a 21st birthday present to me from my parents - so seemed appropriate. Couldn't resist taking your old bass in the end
17. Great gig on Friday night. Coincided with my 40th birthday. Genuinely wasn't expecting a cake -a very nice surprise. The venue was full and everybody, strangers an all, sang happy birthday to me. Brilliant!
18. I'm 40 this month and thought about a YOB bass. In the end i decided to get a nice wristwatch with mid-70s styling. I think a nice watch marks the passage of time, in every sense, quite nicely. Wrong forum i suppose but just a thought.
19.
All comments above valid. If you want to get close to his sound, i believe finding a '57 reissue P bass would be a good way to go. I have a MIJ one from the early ninties. It's great. I play it all the time. Strung with flats. One of them should be around the £500 mark.
Agreed MIJ 57s are ace. I've got a MIJ PB57-US strung with la bella 760FL flats. I also had a Fender Pure Vintage 58 pickup fitted along with a KiOgon period correct wiring kit - replete with a .1 uf capacitor. I reckon the whole thing owes me around £600 and it looks and sounds the bomb.
20.
Just snagged a blonde piggy-back Bassman after much searching, so thought i'd get some of my stuff out for a pic, so we have 3 x bass and rigs to add to this porn thread; '52 Precision and '52 TV Bassman, '58 Precision and '59 Bassman, '61 Jazz and '63 Bassman
I've got the same setup, more or less
21. My P is blue but I don't need a doctor etc
22.
One of my concerns is dealing with younger musicians that have a limited knowledge in terms of rock and roll history, how it started and evolved into what it is today. Blue
Can you elaborate on why this concerns you?
23.
Ignore the above price, it's now £200 - see below. I recently picked this up in a trade, and lovely as it is, I simply don't use it. It's a lovely bass, and condition wise, is immaculate. Previous owner fitted flats on it, and it sounds great and is surprisingly versatile. Also comes with a new Kinsman hard case, which still has the tags on it. Details of the bass here: http://www.ibanez.co...=109&color=CL01 I've shamelessly nicked the pic from the previous owner's listing (hope this is ok), but can take any other pics in the light tomorrow. These are £380 online, and the Kinsman hard case is £70. I'm looking for [s]£230[/s] £200 collected from j.12 M40, or £215 posted. Please no trades - I just found out that a friend's daughter's car got broken into today, and all her kids Christmas presents nicked. She doesn't have a lot of money, so I'm listing this for sale, and all proceeds are going straight out to her. Any questions, just ask. Cheers!
I don't want the bass, as lovely as it is, but if you set up a justgiving account, or similar, I'd be happy to donate £10 towards replacement presents. Darren
24.
When old basses get interesting - that's a Shaftesbury rebranded Eko, not too many of those about. Collectable, if not exactly worth a fortune! J.
This one has a burns tri-sonic pick up in ( mono-sonic?) so probably not that collectible. In its favour it's a shorty so it doesn't take up too much wardrobe space
