1. I've still got by first bass. there is nothing left on the frets and the last time I loosened the strings the nut fell out. I keep it in the wardrobe if that helps.
2. I've got the rumble 500 head and a light 112,cab. It sounds great to me. I would recommend you try the rumble 100 combo before you buy anything else.

It is a definite improvement. CTS pots and switchcraft jack socket. I think my bass is now probably as good as a US reissue but with Japanese build quality

New bass innards day! I've owned this lovely japanese 58 reissue for a little over a year and decided to treat it to some new bits (pictured). A KiOgon wiring kit + some new strings and some fender vintage 58 pickups. Sounds pretty sweet!
5. 20-odd quid for a pbass anyone? http://www.thomann.de/gb/harley_benton_pb_20_bk_standard_seri_deko.htm
6. Probably not very useful but my MIA P bass only allows for through body stringing and I have a set of TI flats on it. No problems with break angle. Obviously different string and might not be what you are after but worth considering maybe.
7.
I agree with that. Specially as I now have the bass in question. Hope you're still happy with the Precision Darren.
Hi Neil, yes very happy with the p bass thanks. Hope all is well! Darren
8. I had one of these in the same colour. Great bass and must be one of the best jazz necks around.
9. Up his own ars€?
10. TalkingBass guy on YouTube delivers some interesting stuff
11. I write the songs in our band. On bass . I moved a jazz bass on a while back because I prefer playing precision necks. Didn't realise until it had gone, of course, that writing songs on the precision that replaced it seems less natural and the style is a little different. Go figure.
12.
That's actually a really good point. Am I right in thinking I'd only have to cover postage (both ways) if I returned it?
I returned a 112 cabinet last year and as far as I remember I just paid the return postage. You could check firstly though as the cabinet I returned was faulty - I'd email them. They provide return labels so it's very simple. [edit] Could be that you pay postal both ways if the item isn't faulty... I have no idea - worth checking.
13. Thomann accept returns without too much hassle If you decide it's too heavy or doesn't sound good enough etc
14.
Liking my current cabs VERY much, surprisingly more than the B/F S12V I used for 18 months. Shame the Carvin overhangs a bit
Would it overhang if you turned it sideways? Just an idea. Probably a rubbish one.
15. Note to self. Read last post before posting
16. Change the pickup and fit some TI flats. Sorted! http://basschat.co.uk/topic/248523-squier-affinity-p-bass-vs-fender-custom-shop-pino-palladino-p-bass/
17. Both rosewood boards? I liked the sound of both, if I had to pick (guess at) the PF I'd go with #2
18. Owning a P bass is a lot like having a child. You look at it sometimes and wonder if the money would have been better spent on something else; but if anyone tried to take it away from you, you'd kill them.
19.
a blue one...
^^^ This
20. Never owned a vintage bass but isn't there a certain amount of selection, in that those that have survived the test of time are probably the better examples of the day and many of the crap ones long since thrown in a skip?
21.
+1 OK, so I admit it; I play bass in a U2 Tribute band.
That's an important first step in starting the recovery process.
22.
Maybe telling people what they want to hear is the custom over here, but I dont find it too honest, so please don't blame me, I just share my opinion...what is yours ( bass wise) ? Best
Bit narrow minded

25.
According to my PM exchange with Ki0gon the cap is a Vintage Sprague 0.1. Have to say that that doesn't mean a lot to me, save that Ki0gon advised it would give a "vintage old school" tone - which it does! Tough call on the pickups. The SPB1 is great, but I was replacing a generic pickup that had been fitted years ago. The US Vintage pickups fitted to my Japanese 70s P reissue were excellent, and I'm not sure the Seymour Duncans would have been a significant improvement.

I'm in much the same process as you are! I've got John's 0.1uf cap, think it's the pacer cap? And I've got some TI flats now just need to decide if a pickup change is what I want as well or whether to try the strings and wiring with the stock MIM pickup or not! I know what pickup I'll be using if I do change it, I'm gonna go for an Aguilar AG4P60
Yes, KiOgon sensibly suggested that I try the replacement wiring and new strings before investing in pickups. I would like to get the bass sorted in one go but I could be wasting money if I don't take this advice. Not found many reports on the pure vintage 58s either. Darren
